Default Yeung Gor - curiously uncurious about his heritage?

Depending on what you want to believe, Yeung Gor might be able to trace his ancestry back to the famous Yeung Family Warrior Corps who fought against the Khitan Liao Empire during the early years of the Northern Sung Dynasty. Indeed, there is no doubt that one of his ancestors, Yeung Tsoi Hing, was a historical war hero who fought alongside General Ngok Fei against Jurchen Jin Empire.

For his part, however, Yeung Gor was curiously uncurious about his own heritage. He barely knew whom his dad was, and he knew nothing about his grandfather. It is strange to me that Yeung Gor never had any interest in his family's illustrious heritage.

Did GJ know about his heritage? Did GJ's ancestors do the same?

If GJ didn't know, it would be hard to find a credible connection.

Unlike Yeung Gor, Gwok Jing had only one famous ancestor...and that ancestor (Gwok Sing from THE WATER MARGIN) was not as famous or as accomplished as the Yeung Family warriors from Yeung Gor's lineage. To use a musical analogy, Gwok Sing would have been like a pop singer who had one hit decades ago and did nothing else of note, whereas Yeung Gor's ancestors were like the Beatles.

I think yangguo was asking if GJ knew about YG's heritage rather than his own. I don't think he knew about the Yang Zaixing connection, although as someone who was infatuated with the Song Dynasty heroes of old it's very possible that someone who knew, like Qiu Chuji, might have told him. I suppose if Qiu Chuji told Yang Guo to his face that his ancestor was Yang Zaixing, Yang Guo would have felt proud, but without really knowing about his heritage in the first place there was little reason to probe beyond the immediate generation.
