Default Protagonist Martial Arts Percentage Growth: Gwok Jing in LOCH

The first in what hopefully will become a series.

First, let an LOCH Great = 100%

    1. Gwok Jing before martial arts training = 0%

    2. Gwok Jing at age 16, having been trained by the Gong Nam 6 Freaks for a decade = 0.01%

    3. Gwok Jing at age 18, after two years of training Cheun Jen Sect inner power with Ma Yuk = 1%

    4. Gwok Jing after having learned fifteen of the Hong Lung 18 Palms from North Beggar Hung 7 Gung = 5%

    5. Gwok Jing after having learned the final three palms of Hong Lung 18 Palms = 10%

    6. Gwok Jing after having learned the Left/Right Hand Technique, Vacant Fist, and a portion of the 9 Yum Jen Ging from Chow Bak Tung = 20%

    7. Gwok Jing after using the 9 Yum Jen Ging with Wong Yung to heal his injury at the hands of West Poison Au Yeung Fung and Yeung Hong = 40%

    8. Gwok Jing after acquiring and learning the main inner portion part (originally in Sanskrit) from South Emperor 1 Deng = 60%

    9. Gwok Jing at end of LOCH = 70%

Well I think GJ not 10% of Greats even after full mastered 18 Dragon Palm (pre Jiuyin) since Zu Chong (2nd Master) said that even as strong as Mei Chaofeng her skill still not 1/10 of Huang Yaoshi skill and we know Mei Chaofeng more stronger than GJ at that time..

Guo Jing hadn't mastered Dragon Palms by that time. He was practised in some of them, hence putting up a fight but losing against Ouyang Ke despite having learned all 18 palms. But Hong Qigong, a much better judge of Greats level than Zhu Cong, was pretty dismissive of 9 yin claws versus Dragon Palms. Plus Guo Jing had Quanzhen internal training, which puts him ahead of Mei Chaofeng, who coveted his knowledge.

Well post 18 Dragon Palm GJ (pre Jiu Yin lesson) weaker than Ouyang Ke and Ouyang Ke weaker than Mei Chaofeng so there is pretty clear that even after full mastered 18 Dragon Palm GJ "still" weaker than Mei Chaofeng at that time and Mei Chaofeng not yet 10% of Huang Yaoshi level mentioned by Zhu Cong..
    LOCH chapter 11
Zhu Cong said calmly, “Her father is a ruthless monster who kills without blinking, did you know that? If he found out that you got close with her daughter in secret, how could even you hope to live? Mei Chao Feng hasn’t even learned one-tenth of his kungfu and she is already so formidable. If the Master of Peach Blossom Isle wants to kill you, who will be able to save you?”

At this point he should have made his greatest gains and it is beginning to taper off. The sanskrit portion was never really explicitly mentioned to improve him greatly though there were implications. If we are to rank GJ at 70% of a Great at the end of the novel, he should be at least 50% here as he already exchanged blows with QQR and impressed him greatly, and also took a full powered blow from OYF.

Another way to look at it would be that his martial arts understanding right now is increasing but it does not correlate with an equal increase in actual combat performance. Before, he could comprehend the Dragon Palms, Vacant Fists, etc and his power greatly increases. He no longer has that luxury;like a less extreme version of YG whose combat ability far exceeded their actual martial arts understanding but their future progress will slow down drastically.

Personally I think it's something like GJ's combat ability is ~75-80% of a Great's, but his martial arts understanding might just be 50-60%.

So if end LOCH GJ ~ Xuan Monk/Du Monk and Xuan Monk (individually) ~ 1/3 of Xiao Feng "level" also if Xiao Feng ~ ROCH Greats that's mean ROCH Greats at least 25% stronger than LOCH Greats ????

I think there are some missing parts, such as when GJ got enlightened by the Great Dipper formation in the sky, and his 1 year+ "training" with OYF in the Mongol desert.

I believe end LOCH GJ should be closer to 80-85%, not 70% of Great.

The most evident part was at the tournament when HYS deploy 70% internal and was in a losing position. That means a Great with 70% internal employing 90+% technique would lose to GJ.

Yeah but Huang Yaoshi even not use his best skill : Divine Flicking Finger and Jade Flute Swordplay..
Hong Qigong also use 100% of his strenght only in last stance which to late coz Guo Jing in "defense mode"

Default Guo Jing Power Level Progression

i recently started watching the new loch 2017 which refreshed my memory on wuxia again lol. this made me think what is the level of GJ's power level regression.

based on the movie, it seems like this

GJ with 7 freak + ma yu + zi bi training = yang tie xin
GJ with above + 20 year snake blood = yang kang with basic qiu chu ji and MCF training
GJ with above + dragon 18 palm = ou yang ke
GJ with above + left right technique + parts of 9yin manual = qiu qian ren
GJ with above + full 9 yin manual = zhou bo tong (but above 1 great)
GJ at start of ROCH = yang guo before losing his arm + learning dogu's skill
GJ at end of ROCH = end of ROCH yang guo

    is this correct?

He was 70% at best. He reached parity with them during the thirteen years between the end of LOCH and the beginning of ROCH.

East Heretic - refused to train in it

West Poison - got a messed up version of it

North Beggar - only learned the part necessary to heal his injury

1 Deng - translated it; didn't have any interest or need to train in it

Chow Bak Tung - swore to never use it

    so is H7G > OYF?

Sometimes, it's just a simple matter of where you're standing. Au Yeung Fung happened to be standing at a location on the boat where he got into a little trouble with a burning mast that was collapsing. Hung 7 Gung didn't have the same problem. Once Hung 7 Gung saw that Au Yeung Fung was in trouble, though, 7 Gung's heroic instincts and compassion took over and he went to rescue Au Yeung Fung, and it was at that moment that Au Yeung Fung sucker punched him with snakes.
