Some have characterized the tilt between Gwok Jing, Wong Yung, and Ohr Jen Ngok vs. West Poison Au Yeung Fung as an unfair dogpile of three-against-one, but do you buy that? Yes, three individuals opposed Au Yeung Fung, but Ohr Jen Ngok was too weak to contribute anything meaningful to the fight and dropped out of it pretty much immediately while Wong Yung contributed nothing except taunting words to the already addled Au Yeung Fung. Gwok Jing did essentially 99.9% of the actual physical combat by himself.

It was more or less a tie. Both men were injured as a result of the brief melee. Gwok Jing's relative youth and better health enabled him to recover more quickly.

I thought GJ never surpassed OYF while they were both alive (at the same time they were alive)

    Nope..
GJ at the mid ROCH slighty better than OYF and other Greats (except ZBT) IMHO since (against except ZBT) no one Greats can "handle" JLFW and Mongolian Merceneries in Kubhilai camp

Gwok Jing was doing OK against the Golden Wheel Monk and the mercenaries. While it's kind of up for grabs whether he could defeat all those opponents, getting away from them safely wasn't an issue until Yeung Gor began running interference. Gwok Jing had a choice: get away safely himself (and sacrifice Yeung Gor) or protect Yeung Gor and open himself up to injury or death fighting multiple powerful opponents.

Yeah...generally speaking, a Greats-level fighter can handle another Greats-level fighter PLUS others (including a second Great) for a *short* amount of time, and probably be able to get away alive. The danger increases for every second the Great under multiple-point assault remains in the scenario, however. The longer the fight lasts, the greater the danger to the outnumbered Great, so he'll only fight as long as it takes to get out of Dodge.

But I don't think OYF or HYS can "handle" Jinlun and co like ZBT/GJ did since they not "versatile fighter" like ZBT/GJ (thanks to L/R Hand Technique and QZ Big Dipper philosophy)..

East Heretic Wong Yerk See can use his knowledge of formations and traps to confuse the enemy, so I see him being able to last pretty long. As for West Poison Au Yeung Fung, where martial arts fail, he can always fall back on his array of poisonous creatures and chemicals to buy himself time and space for a clean getaway.

Well it's true HYS is the master of formation/tricks but We never seen him fought against multiple powerful opponent like GJ/ZBT did so We don't know he can "copy" what GJ/ZBT did (i.e against Jinlun co) as for YD/H7Q they even "worse" than HYS since We never seen them against XXX people..
Note : I would consider QZ Master as a "medioker" opponent the reason why they so powerful only if they fight in formation
