However, lets say GJ's story took place at the time of 蕭燕燕, would his attitude towards the Liao had been the same?
On a personal level, 蕭燕燕 was like GJ's own mother, was a widowed but determined woman, who brought her son up in the right way. Would this parallel had softened GJ's attitude to this foreign occupier of Song land?
On a political level 蕭燕燕, introduced fair laws would protected Hans and Liao citizens as equals, ensuring peace and stability within her realm. One of GJ's major gripes against the Jin and later Mongol was how badly they treated the Han people. Yet here is a foreign ruler who was competent, moral (as moral as a absolute monarch could be) and equitable to everyone.
Would GJ had been so adamant about reclaiming Song lands in the above situation?
