Default Theories on Xiao Long Nu's origins

Why do you think Xiao Long Nu was found as a baby? What happened to her parents? If she was abandonded then why did she get to keep her surname "Long"? Even if there were a sign hung on her saying "my surname is Long" why would her parents want to put something that would give a clue to who her parents were?

Well... My questions to sum it all up is... What happened to her parents? What happened to her?

I dunno... where was the location Xiao Long Nu's master found her? At the entrance of Gu Mu?

it could be that her parents were in trouble, having the need to flee from their enemies and probably would end up dead. Having heard of the great name of Lin Chao Ying (founder of Gu Mu), they decided to left their newborn child at the entrance, hoping someone would take care of her. Or it could be her parents were too poor to raise the child, especially since it is a girl.

Lin Chaoying was not very famous, the LOCH greats' reputation is above LCY.

where was the location Xiao Long Nu's master found her?
One foggy and rainy night, the disciples of Quanzhen heard traces of crying; they found the baby Dragon Girl placed on the floor outside Chongyang Shrine. Just as they were pondering what to do, the keeper of the Ancient Tomb showed up and took in Little Dragon Girl.

Lin Chaoying was not very famous, the LOCH greats' reputation is above LCY.
Correct. Because she was a woman, Lin Chaoying did not spread her name, and few people knew of her existence. In fact, Wang Chongyang never told her name to the 7 Masters of Quanzhen.

I have a feeling that Little Dragon Girl wasn't just some random baby who happened to find her way into the Ancient Tomb Sect's care. She was special. Her adoption by the Ancient Tomb Sect is no accident, I think.

Could she probably be the offspring of WCY and LCY? Highly unlikely though

The secret bastard love child of Wong Chung Yeung and Lam Chiu Ying? An interesting idea, but impossible because she was born decades after they had both died.

Oh, so whoever placed Xiao Long Nu there, actually wanted Quan Zhen disciples to take her in? Among the 7 disciples of Quan Zhen, there was a female. So it could be possible for Quan Zhen to take in female disciples.

And if I'm really that far fetched, Xiao Long Nu could be the reincarnation of either Wang Chong Yang or Lin Chao Ying. LOL

It could be possible... but maybe not.... I don't think either of them had any children. I just keep wondering about her origins and where she could've come from....

maybe XLN being WCY and LCY's grandaughter?

This reminds me of a really hilarious article I once read in Chinese that purported to link Zhou Bo-Tong to various mysterious events surrounding the Condor trilogy. Among other things, ZBT was responsible for:

    - HYS's wife's death, because he molested her while being imprisoned on the island. Of course an aloof person like HYS would never let the truth be known that his wife had a thing with such a one as ZBT. His anger and regret over the event also led to HR later leaving the island.

    - Raping XLN, because clearly the suspect Daoist lack the skill or martial arts training to pull such a thing off without detection.

    - Getting the concubine of Da Li's emporer pregnant, as written in the book, was part of a ploy with Center Divinity to deal a moral blow to his competitor.

XLN could very well be the daughter of Tomb sect members. Since only virgins were supposed to inherite the teachings, if you had an affair it's best to cover it up. Just give birth somewhere else and claim it's an abandoned baby. Via this logic it's not hard to envision that XLN is actually a direct descendent of Central Divinity and the founder of the Tomb sect, which would explain her good looks and talent for martial arts. Of course, writing it like that would probably be too predictable.

That article sounds like it might be pretty funny. And not unreasonable, too; Zhou Botong after all has a sort of joker-in-the-pack quality, always ready to emerge from up Jin Yong's sleeve and deal with a plot problem. You can picture Jin Yong hunched over his desk late at night, sweating over how he's going to get Jinlun, Yang Guo & Co. to head to the Loveless Valley in time for next morning's episode of 'Shen Diao' in Ming Pao. After hours of racking his brains, he thinks: "**** it, I'll just use ZBT", pens the entire episode in five minutes, and then heads off to bed, smug at his own genius.

That's not so far fetched. Jin Yong set up the YG/XLN relationship as a 'reincarnation' of the WCY/LCY relationship, but with a happier ending. XLN is clearly LCY's martial descendant, but also, YG identifies himself with WCY at least twice in the novel: first jokingly (to tease Li Mochou), and later seriously (when 'marrying' XLN at Quanzhen). Ironically, YG was arguably Quanzhen's greatest ever disciple.

I think Jin Yong quite deliberately omitted these details. The ghostly mysteriousness of XLN is one of her defining characteristics. She has a bit of Hong Lou Meng's Lin Daiyu in her: an ethereal, sickly fairy, unsuited to this world, biding her time waiting for death. I don't think Jin Yong meant her to be a truly realistic character; she's more of a symbol.

There was no such thing as sex ed back then. The Daoist guy probably had been in the monastery all his life. How'd the hell does he know what to do? Even if driven by instinct he did it w/o arousing any suspicion and um...so anyway it's an unlikely tale. ZBT on the other hand clearly has the history to back it up.

Wow the poor chap has been made the scapegoat for so many crimes.... no wonder he's gone a bit nutty. The author of this article has a pretty wild imagination though.

Maybe little Dragon Girl had the similar identifiers that Ah Zhu and Ah Zi had (which read: Duan or Ruan, can't remember).

AAAHAHA, LOL. But YG wouldnt have known what to do either... and the Daoist was obviously very lustful, maybe he had some ancient porn mags? Anyway, who knows what he actually did, right? (i mean, she didnt get pregnant or anything)
