While the former Jin flunkies were indeed wulin criminals who had committed abominable crimes, I think it sullied the Cheun Jen Sect's reputation as a noble and heroic school of martial arts and Taoism for them to treat the flunkies with such excessive cruelty. It would have been enough to destroy the flunkies' martial arts, imprison them for life at the Chung Yeung Temple, and force them to perform hard labor. It was not necessary to torture and maim them, as they were already helpless and in the Cheun Jen Sect's custody.
