Default Why was Mo Ngai Tze so afraid of/helpless against Ding Chun Chou?

Why was Mo Ngai Tze supposedly so afraid of/helpless against his wayward student Ding Chun Chou, to the extent that he had to pretend to be dead for decades? Mo Ngai Tze had something like ten times Ding's inner power and complete knowledge of the Bak Ming Sun Gung. Nothing in Ding's bag of tricks could compete against that.

I think he was ashamed of being a disabled. After all, back in his heyday, not only was he powerful, he was also extremely knowledgable and handsome.

Plot device. We probably have to make an excuse that he assumed DCQ (and maybe learnt some kung fu from LQS) had advanced greatly in the decades while Su Xinghe did not.

Make sense but if we assume DCQ "improve" WYZ should be "improve" too at least in terms of internal aspect just like Madam Gongsun did in ROCH which she could "keep pace" with HR and GSZ in internal aspect..

Yes but we just have to assume his injuries affected his practical fighting ability a lot. I dont like it too but thats how the plot wanted it.

Don't underestimate Ding Chunqiu! It was said that even with Xuzhu's inheritance of Wuyazi's FULL inner strength, PLUS Su Xinghe's kung fu, they would be NO MATCH for Ding Chunqiu!

Let's not forget, Su Xinghe was able to NEUTRALIZE Great Wheel Monk Jiumozhi's Crane-Controlling Technique. And yet, he is worlds away from the indestructibleness of his martial brother Ding Chunqiu!
