Didn't Ma Yu receive some compliments from Huang Yaoshi for being able to withstand his attack, something that non of his brothers could do? I don't ever recall any part of the story where Qiu Chuji is described or hinted to be better than his senior brother.

I vaguely recall it being discussed here long ago that Ma Yuk was the more enlightened Taoist and had deeper understanding of internal power, but Yau Chui Gei, being the most militant of the 7 Disciples, was correspondingly the best overall martial artist among the seven.

The seven sons of Quanzhen were ranked by the order in which they entered the sect, not age. Your number 3 and 4 are the wrong way around (Liu Chuxuan came before Qiu Chuji).

If ranked by age (assuming they were born the same year their historic counterparts were), then Sun Bu'er would be the oldest, followed by Ma Yu and Tan Chuduan, while Hao Datong was the youngest. The ages of the others were closer to Hao Datong (within 7 years) than the older three. There is a 36 year span between youngest and oldest.

By martial arts ability:

Zhou Botong explicitly said that both Qui Chuji and Wang Chuyi were better than Ma Yu in martial arts, which leaves him ranked third. Sun Bu'er was said to be the weakest in ROCH (which was why Wang Chongyang gave her the sharpest sword to compensate). There was never any explicit comparison between the remaining three as far as I can recall.

LOCH '82 and ROCH '83 always went in the order of my first list. The disciples referred to Yau Chui Gei as the third, Wong Chui 1 as the fifth, and Tam Chui Deun as the second. I didn't know if that was just arbitrary (perhaps it was).
