Default How impressed were you when North Beggar Hung 7 Gung first exhibited his skills?

For a long time at the beginning of LOCH, the most powerful fighter that audiences saw in action was Mui Chiu Fung. Audiences had hints that Mui's teacher, East Heretic Wong Yerk See, was magnitudes more powerful, but we didn't actually see Wong Yerk See until much later in the story. The first Great to show up and exhibit his skill was North Beggar Hung 7 Gung. How impressed were you when you first saw H7G exhibit his skill (Hong Lung 18 Palms) and realized that the martial arts level of the story had just taken a quantum leap beyond the Mui Chiu Fungs, Au Yeung Haks, and Yau Chui Geis of wulin?

The dragon palm in TVB LOCH 1983 was very impressive when i first saw it. With all those palms coming out and imprinting black palms onto the opponents body.

Much more impressive than the ones you see nowadays where it's a flying Dragon chasing someone.

The first time Hong Qigong displayed his martial arts ability was when he whistled to join the pseudo-battle between Huang Yaoshi and Ouyang Feng. The second time was when he duelled with Ouyang Feng, a fight that astonished Huang Yaoshi who thought he'd be well ahead of the rest years after the first Huashan tournament, but in reality was on a par with Hong Qigong and Ouyang Feng. The third time was when Hong Qigong fought with Ouyang Ke on the poles, simultaneously with Ouyang Feng fighting Guo Jing.

Oh hang on, there was also his demonstration of the Proud Dragon Repents, which snapped a medium sized tree trunk.

Hmm, for novel, because I saw the TV series as a kid way before I read the novels, I was expecting H7G to be strong, so nothing there. For LOCH 80s LOCH, I remember he just hit some not-so-strong guy and there was a black palm print. Again, there was no big yardstick (its not like he stepped between MCF and QCJ with a force field), so nothing there also.

In fact, the only TV series where I was impressed by a particular fighter was :

    1. ATV's Bordertown Wanderer with Hugo Ng. I had no idea of the story and didn't know this cripple was the main star. Then he starts one-chopping off limbs and heads and FHX became my favourite char.

    2. DGSD 82/83. Again I had no-idea what the story was about since I was basically a baby. I saw laser beams from Kent Tong and waaaaahhhh this was waaaayy cool, me likes! Then this old uncle like dude (Kiu Fung) appears (who I had no idea was a main char on par with Kent) appears and he seems to win every single fight. I was wondering hey why is he so good? He never learnt laser beams or got any secret manual? Why?

Sa Tung Teen was the first character to be on the receiving end of the Hong Lung 18 Palms in LOCH '82. Sa took about a dozen palm-shaped bruises on his upper and lower torso, and Au Yeung Hak observed that at most, Hung 7 Gung used only 1/5 of his inner power, or Sa wouldn't have made it back alive.

Yes, I remember some scrub victim and the black palm print. Because it was a scrub, I knew H7G was supposed to be strong but nothing earthshaking.

    This... just had me laughing!

I saw the 80's TVB series and shortly after read the novel
I think I was bias becaue I've heard from my mother about LOCH and the famous Greats. And XL18P is such a famous martial art that even non-wuxia fans knew what it was

But what really impressed me and solidified my view of H7G wasn't really his actual combat performance-- it was his implied martial arts level. From the time he coached GJ against Jin mercs without looking
Or the fear from the mercs upon hearing his name
To the improvement in GJ from just a basic mastery of Dragon Palms

so by the time H7G actually demonstrated his skill in a fight-- it lived up to expectation
