I like the Wild West feel of some of his stories, especially swordsmen reminiscent of those gunslingers.

Pretty much all Gu Long stories taking place in Ming Dynasty. Jianghu in Gu Long stories is much much more dangerous and complicated than in JinYong. There are a lot more backstabbing and unknowns. You don’t know who is good and who is bad. There are lot of surprises. You often don’t know who is the real and fake gentlemen. Jin Yong heroes would NOT survive in Gu Long stories.
