Maybe change the idea. The answer is not in the painting but in the wooden piece connected to the painting. The scroll is hollow and inside are some a metal parts. They click together to make a small dragon.

Then holding this dragon, the person has to stand somewhere and wait for the solar eclipse.

The kilin come and spit out the pearls. The pearls shine up the are and due to magnetism, the head of the dragon spins to the spot where the treasure is hidden.

But thr kilin guard it so you have to tame them.

Wow! Charbydis, you come up with really creative ideas. I especially like the part about the dragon in the wooden part of the painting. It's really original.

Hmmnn...with the dragon hero, i think it should be someone whom has completed a technique with 'dragon or even kilin' in it. But don't make the technique from the Dragon Clan. We should make the technique from another clan, maybe one that use to exist but doesn't anymore.

We could create an ancient Clan, that use to have the power to control the kilin, however when the Clan was on the brink of destruction they hid the secret in the paintings... Maybe we could have the martial arts under the paintings and also have the metal parts that make a dragon in the wooden parts! Then the paintings will be twice as useful!

a couple questions:
who is cheng chi xu? Is he the current master cheng?
if so, it seems odds that he becomes friend with leung mo lin again.

BTW, how about someone update the character list here?

I don't know if I can write the twists like charbydis described, but I hope someone will do that.

** Just to add to more confusion.

A sudden rumble noise woke the two people who were sleeping peacefully in the cave. Lau Hong woke up from reverie and found that the ground was shaking and the earth was cracking from the unknown force. Outside, lightning was lashing furiously at the forest below, searing every object in sight. Violent storm was brewing from afar, electrifying the entire area. In a space of minutes, the whirlwind swooped past the area, uprooting the remaining trees and destroying the unsuspected livings. Clashing sound was heard, then all was quiet.

Abruptly, it ended. The wind changed its tune; it turned gentler and more soothing as if to deny the evidence of havocs in front. Lightning ceased, and rain drizzled down comfortably, lulling the frigtening creatures back to sleep again - that is, the surviving ones.

Nevertheless, Ah Yee and Lau Hong were too anxious to fall asleep. They didn't even hear the lullaby playing by the rain as the big boulder that had fallen from the nearby hill was blocking their cave from the outside world.

Inside was total darkness. Lau Hong and Ah Yee unconsciously moved closer toward each other. Each tried to squint through the eerie gloom to grasp on their present situations.

Ah Yee crawled on the earth ground and found the half-burnt fire wood. So, she took out her flint and make the fire. Holding a make-shift torch high, She found herself right next to Lau Hong and for the first time relieved that he was there with her.

Lau Hong blinked in the dim light and followed the other's example by getting himself another torch. Then, he moved toward the used to be cave entrance to examine the possibility of getting out. Ah Yee followed him wordlessly, scanning for any cracks on the big rock with her sharp eyes.

However, the boulder covering their exit was solid, heavy rock with no hole or crack visible. Lau Hong put the torch aside in safe place and tried to remove it but failed. Ah Yee lent him a hand and still could not budge the stubborn stone door even an inch.

Seeing the futile attempt, the two abandoned the project and went around the cave, collecting the items that could be of use into one pile halfheartedly. Lau Hong wondered how long they could last in this little cave with small amount of food and drink they had, and Ah Yee couldn't believe that she would be so unlucky to be trapped in this dismal hole. Each surreptically glanced at the other and was inwardly glad that there was at least a companion.

Just then, they both started from the loud spitting noise from the back of the cave. The two rushed to the noise source and found a strip crack running from the cave ceiling to the ground at one corner of the cave.

Without ado, the two youths went to work. They hacked and dug till the crack was wider, big enough for a person to squeak past. Turned out that behind the crack was a hollow area, space that was big enough to be a room. On each side of the wall was writings coupling with some paintings.

Curious, the two youngsters edged closer to the nearest wall and inspected the first word, '9 Yin Manual: the ultimate Kung Fu'.

Ah Yee could almost exclaim aloud. She held the torch next to the wall and minutely read the scripture with zest. Her problem was momentarily forgotten.

Lau Hong was not interested, however. What would be the use of the martial art when they had no way out of here?

He strode to the opposite side of the wall and read the inscription silently. 'The Earth Shifting Manuscript of the Ming Cult - the practitioner requires the high amount of energy, knowledge of 9 yang manuscript is recommended.'

Lau Hong's eyes were caught with that sentence. He eagerly read on and found that with the 9 yang manual, he could practice this strange skill and open the imprisoned rock from the cave mouth.

Immediately, he sat down and started meditating. His goal was to complete his 9 yang training so that he could advance to the martial art on the wall.

After the first excitement subsided, Ah Yee realized that the thing that she had been seeking for was no use to her at the moment. She took a look at Lau Hong and shook her head. What would be the use to get cured if they had to remain here till their death?

Nevertheless, she let him in peace and went further toward the third wall panel. There, she saw a large paintings of dragon and kilin facing each other. They looked life-like and vivid as if they had been drawn recently. Upon looking closely, she saw that the dragon body was actually a map of some sort, whereas the kilin's part was divided into four sections. Each section was a minute picture of a kilin in different post. Ah Yee remembered one of them as the kilin painting in the Cheung Mansion.

Amused, she continued exploring this amazing chamber. On the fourth wall, she found a memorial written by a man named Cheung Mo Kei. She read quietly with interest.

"...this cave is a haven for me and my wife. Because of our knowledge in the most sought after martial skills, we were not able to live in peace even if we retire from the martial realm. To keep the secrets from the evil hands, we decide to leave our legacy here with hope that fate would lead the righteous hero to this den some day in the future. Please put the great dragon into good use and follow the kilin to the final goal...."

After that, a half panel describing 9 yang manual was almost unreadable. Seemed as if the writing had suddenly lost the interest or had no time to finish his work as the inscription was not completed.

In the dark corner of the room were two skeletons, embracing each other. One was male and another was female.

Ah Yee knelt down and touched the bones which immediately crumbled into dust, signified its age. She then concluded that the male skeleton indeed belonged to the man, Cheung Mo Kei.

At that moment, Lau Hong cried out. He was having the final attack. Sweats ran down his face, but strangely, he felt almost no pain. With joy, he tried circulate his inner force and felt much refreshed. Finally, he opened his eyes and smiled at the concerned Ah Yee.

"I have found the way out."

Cool continuation Goofy! Anyone going to continue Bai Xue Xing and Leung Wan Shan's story. If not, it will be a incomplete story of their past. I just don't want anyone forgetting to continue and my continuation would be dumb!

well, there is a character list somewhere in this fanfic forum. You may have to read the last 3-5 chapters to get the idea for continuation, but the gist is this: (I might get the name spelled wrong)

two disciples of Qing Tong sect named cheng Yuen Jin and Lau Hong came to a wedding of master cheung's only son and a beauty li yu mei. (master cheung is a descendant of cheung bo kei and li yu mei is the disciple of dragon clan).

li yu mei has a sworn sister named xiao Lung er. Li yu mei in fact is at cheung manor to steal the secret/treasure of cheung for her master - leung mo lin (xiao lung er's godfather). through tricks she killed her sworn sister who survived and got to know cheung yuen jin. Lau Hong on the other hand know ah Yee, a maid to Ah Lan (she has a full name too, but I forgot.) Ah Lan and Ah Yee are disciples of a woman who seemed to be enemy of dragon clan (leung mo lin).

Ah Lan met Leung Tian Bo (leung mo lin's nephew who fell in love with li yu mei and got betrayed by her and has gone away from home - a scar face man)

Leung Tian bo has 2 sworn brothers - one was killed by cheung ping (li yu mei's supposed groom - he practices 9 yin white bone claw)

at the wedding, leung tian bo kidnapped ah Lan mistakingly (he thought she was li yue mei). Lau Hong got injured with ice and fire palm from li yu mei and received 9 yang manual from 2 weird doctors couple Ma (they both want him to be his/her apprentice).

Yuen jin also got injured somewhat and met whistling wanderer who later gave him a key to kilin and gave him internal energy. whistling wanderer one-sided loved Mrs. Ma, he died after transferring energy to yuen jin.

there are supposedly four paintings of kilin that would unlock the secret. one was at cheung manor, one was at dragon clan, and one was at the new clan that xiao lung er and yuen jin ended up at (this clan raided the cheung manor during the absence of the cheung family).

turned out xiao lung er could be a real niece of leung mo lin (lml has two brothers - one was xle's father, and other was tian bo's father)

for now...
villain: li yu mei, cheung ping
hero: yuen jin, lau hong, tian bo, xiao lung er, ah lan, ah yee

gray line (you can make them either way): cheung ping's father, leung mo lin, ah lan's sifu, xle's new aunt.

hope it helps. Join us, please!!!

Hey Goofy,

Do you think it would be possible to spin a sidestory about Cheung Senior, and then weave it into the main of the Kilin story as it concerns the wherabouts of the last kilin?

Also i was thinking about trying to create a fourth couple - since there are four parts of the Kilin, how about adding another hero? or are there to many already?

By the way, where is everybody? (White Krane, C Monster, charbydis, Floo.., etc.) where have they all gone?

actually, you can do pretty much a lot of stuff in here. the story of xiao lung er's parents just started, so you can spin something on that. The story of Cheung senior would be great too. I was thinking that he might be an evil man in disguise, but it really depends on you.

just a side note, Ah lan's grand master's sifu got killed by two former leaders of wudang and huashan (I believe.) Ah lan's master will soon give ah lan a task of revenge all descendents from these two people (who had disappeared years ago).

maybe you can add something on that.

about the new character, feel free to add anything, but how about making some triangle connection with some existed characters? Or how about making cheung ping the fourth person?

anything is possible, just so you the theme about kilin in mind.

**********************************

Hundreds of leagues away from Lau Hong and Ah Yee, the cold winter sun beat down upon a barren dirt path. Tall lifeless tress and harsh winter grass grew up from the sides of the well walked road. The wind sweeping the dust up on its path through the countryside blew cold and swift, causing the reeds to twist and turn in an enthusiastic dance, as if in welcoming of someone.

Cheung Chi Xue, walked along the path briskly, long sword by his side, beard flowing caressed by the playful winds; eyes resolute and firm.

Although if anyone saw Cheung Chi Xue walking now, they would have guessed that this was just an old scholar, lost in deep thought.

The path led to the sacred site of E’Mei, the mountain of the famous E’Mei Sect.

E’Mei, one of the former greats of the Wulin world. It was founded by the Heroine Gwok Seung. Great Hero Gwok Jing, and Heroine Wong Yung’s daughter. Although its fame has fared not too well after the years of fourth generation Leader Chow Chi Yerk, the swordskills of E’Mei sect are still to be feared in the hands of an elite fighter; for Gwok Seung created the set of sword techniques by drawing on all the skills and knowledge of the greatest pugilists of her time.

‘Shaolin, Wudong, E’Mei are in truth more like the immovable north star of Mount Tai, than Dragon Sect and Sword Lake Sect.’ he thought whilst stroking his beard slowly as he was walking.

Cheung Chi Xue had left his son back in a neighbouring city while he had come out to E’Mei Shan. He had told his son that the purpose of the trip was to secure friendly ties with the head of E’Mei Sect, in light of the strange events that happened at Cheung Ping’s wedding.

In fact however, Cheung Chi Xue was not going to meet the head of E’Mei sect. He was going to meet someone, someone he had thought was dead long ago. But a strange present a days before his sons wedding made him change his mind.

The presents he received that day were two swords, deep green colour with two sides of a poem carved onto each scabbard. Both swords seemed meticulously forged; seven pieces of jade were embedded on each sword hand guard.

Apprentices by Cheung Chi Xue’s side when he opened the present saw his face instantly turn as white as paper; and he instantly handed the weapons to someone else and demanded them to draw out the weapon.

To the surprise of everyone, one of the swords was broken right at the middle. The broken half of the sword was missing from the scabbard, indicating it had been broken long ago. Their Master was silent.

In the mist of the preparation for Cheung Ping’s wedding, the swords were put away and forgotten in everybody’s mind except Cheung Chi Xue’s.

‘Two birds by the mountains walked,
together for a while,
Two hearts by their oath sworn,
together, till greyed and old,’

Cheung Chi Xue recited the poem again as he walked. For the past week this poem had been recited in his head numerous times, always bringing with it unwanted thoughts.

It seems that no one has pursued the Tian Bo and Zhi Lan storyline from where I left off. Are you guys afraid? Anyway, here's a little bit on it. So much has happened to the other characters that these two are in a separate pocket of their own time. More will follow...

---

Dreams of laughter, dreams of mirth, these visions were besmirched by the faint sound of maniacal laughter and the soft tinkling of bells in the background. Tian Bo unconsciouly sifted through the layers upon layers of images swirling in his mind to determine which ones were real and which ones were false. A myriad of color, majestic dragons roaring and soaring high, golden phoenixes screeching and fluttering by, whether on splendid mountain tops or rocking on rough oceans, he was always in pursuit of something intangible. A flicker of a sweet smile so enchanting and innocent that it would melt his heart, but in the next second would mutate into a frown of such wickedness and evil that he would shudder appalled. 'Is beauty only skin deep?' he asked himself. At times he felt as light as a feather, free and formless floating through the air, while other times he felt like the weight and pain of a ton of bricks crushing his body. But no matter what, he was always hot, always on the move.

Concerned, Cherk Zhi Lan watched Lung Juan Fung (Leung Tian Bo's alias) thrashed back and forth in his makeshift bed. She wiped the beads of sweat from his forehead before wringing the cloth dry to make another cold compress that would help relieve the fever. Three days and nights, he lapsed in and out of consciousness so many times that she lost count. For the most part he slept in uneasy slumber as she continued with her meditation in the corner. But every so often he would have these violent episodes in which his eyes would pop wide open suddenly, glowing but unfocused, with incoherent mumurs spewing out from his whiskered lips, body shaking and hands flaying trying to latch on to something. So as to prevent him from hurting himself or reopen his wounds, she kept him still by either holding him tightly or binding his body gently with a rope. Seeing his suffering, Zhi Lan's initial anger and frustration toward him soon evaporated. The mumblings from his half-awaked dreams revealed him to be a kind-hearted man, with deep passion, innocent and sheltered from the ways of the world who was betrayed by someone he cared for and trusted deeply. 'In many ways, he was as much of a victim of Li Yu Mei as me,' she thought shaking her head in sympathy.

It has been almost a week since her sifu and Ah Yee left for Cheung Manor and still no word. Her meditation was progressing nicely. Tomorrow morning, she will be free to go outside and find out what has happened. She will also need to replenish her food reserves since this patient does not seem to be ready to walk about any time soon. It would also be a good opportunity to get some better herbal medication to speed his recovery.

Cool

this is my third attempt on posting this chapter.

Before Ah Yee ended up with Lau Hong in the sealed cave, she had indeed gone to Cheung Mansion with her master as Ah Lan had expected.

Ah Yee was agitated at the ruins of the majestic Sword Lake Sect's headquarters. Numerous corpses littered about on the ground, creating a horrific sight. Ah Yee recognized some bodies as those of her former fellow maids and servants. Unvoluntarily, she retreated and stumbled over the lifeless body of the housekeeper Fok. She screamed, and her master rebuffed annoyingly.

"What are you afraid of? Ghosts cannot hurt you like the livings." She bent down and scrutinized the bodies carefully.

"Hmm, seem they were bitten by venomous vipers. I wonder if that is White Snake Clan. But, why would it reappear in the pugilistic realm after all these years?"

She grunted and walked around the mansion. She came to stop in front of an empty panel on the wall and knitted her eyebrows.

"Something is missing from here." She murmured and called Ah Yee to verify that there was indeed a picture of kilin there.

"Kilin?" She exclaimed and strode to the backyard. To her dismay, the shack that housed the secret passage had been burned to ashes. Of the inner chamber and the wall with strange paintings according to Ah Lan's report, they had also been destroyed, leaving only few skulls.

Disappointed that her trip was in vain, she almost left the area when her sharp eyes caught a shining green jade pendant on the floor. She picked it up and examined the object thoughtfully. Then, she laughed mockingly, much to Ah Yee's surprise.

"Ha-ha. Cheung Chi Xue is a cunning man and a generous man at that. For a purpose, he is willing to sacrify his wealth and even his faithful servant like Fok On Tsi."

Suddenly, her face changed color. She leaped up and seized an item hanging on a tree branch nearby.

In the twilight of sunset, Ah Yee saw a silver chain glittering in her master's shaking hands. In the middle of the chain was an imitated plum made of precious gems. Puzzlingly, she looked at her master who rambled a name that she couldn't quite catch and sped away with wild eyes.

Ah Yee called her master and ran after her but was unable to catch up with the other's high light kungfu. Ah Yee had to stop for breath, and that was when she encountered the White Snake Clan.

Cool

actually I meant it to be a token of love between ah yee's sifu and someone?? but your idea is fine. I totally forgot about feifei incident so good thing I wrote a necklace instead of bracelace, eh?

yep, the necklace can be connected to those two old men. also don't forget that ah yee's grand sifu once met a handsome man. who could that be?
