Cool

well, I would rank No Name as having the best inner power, but he was so childish and easily distractable.

Ah Yu after receiving No Name's energy was equal to Ke Jing with Xin-er slightly below them. As far as fighting goes, Tian Xin-er probably is the best in wits. Ke Jing has many skills from his tomb training and Ah Yu was single-minded oriented which meant he would not be easily distracted.

Miao Li was below them but with the help of his saber made him up on par with the others.

As for Light Shadow, he was among there.

De Pang would be in the second group with Huang Yitao.

hopefully, some day, there will be a forum discussing on my characters.

Call it Gigi's forum. j/k...

No Name (Chun Wong)

Bai Chang stumbled to her grandfather that was still on the ground. “Grandpa, how are you?” She shook his arms and smiled with relief when he opened his eyes. No Name also came to examine his adversary. Then he assured the crying maiden. “Old turtle is really tough. He’s just lost a lot of energy and had some internal injury. Have him take this medicine, and he’ll feel better.”

He handed a pill to Bai Chang who gave it to her grandfather, but Light Shadow only grunted and threw it to the ground. “A real man is not afraid to die but will not be pitied by his enemy.”

No Name shook his head. “Not only you are an old turtle, but you are also a pigheaded donkey.” He shrugged and turned to clap his hands for Tian Xin-er. “That was very good performance. Even I couldn’t have done better.”

Tian Xin-er flushed pink and turned to Ke Jing’s direction with concern. Upon perceiving him standing above Miao Li, she released a smile. No Name followed her glance and realized then that her heart had already belonged to another man. He sighed disappointedly and vanished silently before anyone could realize that he was gone.

All this while, Ah Yu had been kneeling, looking down at the ground. When he heard Bai Chang’s voice calling Light Shadow, he jerked up and ran to his mentor who moodily turned down his help and ordered him to go to Miao Li instead. Bai Chang left her grandfather and rushed to Miao Li who slowly got up. Without a word, Ah Yu began to transfer steams of energy into the other. After a while, he turned to assure Bai Chang. “He will be all right.”

Miao Li stared hard into Ah Yu’s eyes and took another saber from his back and presented it to the other. “This saber is yours.” He said coldly then closed his eyes to start a meditation.

Light Shadow gazed at his apprentice thoughtfully then called his granddaughter. “Chang-er, come here and take this pill to Ah Yu.”

Bai Chang reluctantly left from her husband’s side and did as she was told. Ah Yu took one look at the pill and swallowed it obediently. A few minutes later, he had to throw himself on the ground, twitching around from excruciating pain. At that moment, a bottle rolled out of his shirt and Light Shadow told Bai Chang to bring it to him. He opened the bottle and smelled its content then smiled strangely.

“So, that old pig gave you these antidotes, didn’t he? Well, now that you have taken the right one, you won’t need these anymore.” He then threw the bottle against a big rock, shattering it.

Tian Xin-er watched Ah Yu anxiously. “If that was the antidote, why is he suffering so much?” She asked.

Light Shadow laughed. “Little girl, don’t worry. I am not trying to kill him. It is just reaction of the antidote against the poison in his body. He shall be fine after a few moments.”

Ke Jing picked up one of his swords and aimed its tip at Miao Li’s chest. “Brother Miao, please order your troop to retreat.”

Miao Li opened his eyes and laughed icily. “Losers die, winners live. I can care less if they all die here. If they can’t defeat your small army, then they don’t deserve to live.”

Ah Yu by then had got up on his own as Light Shadow had predicted. He walked to his mentor and kneeled down, kowtowing three times. “Thank you Mentor for the antidote.” He spoke politely.

Light Shadow smiled. “No reward without achievement. I have taught you martial skills all these years so that you can help me revenge my enemies.” He pointed around at Tian Xin-er and others. “Kill them!”

Ah Yu did not move. “Mentor, I cannot do that because they are my friends. Besides, they are risking their lives to protect our nation against foreigners. Please put the personal matter aside for now.”

Light Shadow roared at the other’s sincere plea. “Ha-ha. That is all the more reason for you to get rid of them. My vengeance aside, you should be helping Juchen, not Ming.”

Ah Yu shook his head. “But I am the Ming’s subject, not Juchen’s people.”

Miao Li got up and walked toward Ah Yu. “Stand up and look at me.” He ordered, and Ah Yu slowly rose. He faced Miao Li who looked at him challengingly. “Open your mask, Ah Yu and you will know who you really are.”

Ah Yu meekly reached for his mask and took it off. Instantly, everyone gasped and Light Shadow chuckled. Miao Li grinned although his eyes narrowed. “Greeting to you, my brother.”

Light Shadow gazed at Miao Li and Ah Yu and smiled contentedly. “This is the secret that I have kept for over a decade. Too bad that there is no mirror for you to look at yourself, but if you have been taking No Name’s medicines, then you must realize that the marks on your face started to disappear and your look shall remind you of that of Miao Li’s.

Twenty-five years ago, you were born as a Juchen prince but because of a seer’s prediction, your mother and you were ordered to leave the palace and the country immediately. In a forest, your mother gave birth to another son who is Miao Li here. She then came to China and lived in a small cottage with her twin babies. However, due to her ill health from giving birth to two sons in the rough condition and depression from broken heart, she had become very sick and eventually turned crazy. One day, when you two were about five or six years old, she suddenly had a fit and grabbed a knife to disfigure one twin. The other tried to stop her, so she carried him outside toward a cliff. There, she threw him down madly.

At that point, Black Devil and I happened to pass by and managed to rescue that boy in time. Black Devil wanted to adopt him as his apprentice, and in order not to appear lesser than he, I decided to take you in as well. Black Devil left the cliff and went away with his new apprentice right away, while I followed your mother to the cottage. That’s when I saw the Yin-Yang sabers and had realized that you must have come from a royal family; therefore, I disguised myself as a doctor and offered your mother to cure her madness along with her son’s wounds. A year later, she died out of guilt and sorrow for her dead son, and I have been taken care of you ever since.

These two Yin-Yang sabers are forged from rare metal and presented to the Juchen king some hundred years ago. They were passed from fathers to sons for many generations and have drunk a lot of blood in the past. When I was a boy, I followed my mentor to the Juchen palace once and saw those sabers by the king’s side. I made further investigation and concluded then that both of you must be the king’s sons.

Originally, your face only had a few scars that would soon vanish, but because I want to prevent you from learning your own identity, I poisoned your face so that it turned ugly. Then I made a mask from animal skin and had you wear it. And as I have predicted, you grew up to be a weak man without fire of ambition.

After my junior martial brother, Black Devil, was killed by Tian Xiang-er and her husband, Miao Li had come to see me at the cave. I like his disposition, so I share with him my plan of reinstating him as the prince. When Miao Li becomes the king, then I will be the Royal Tutor, and my Chang-er will be his queen. The Ming Cult would return to its glory, and Black Devil would be cursing in hell that I accomplish something that he couldn’t. Ha-ha. Ha-ha.”

Everyone was stunned. Ke Jing was the first to recover from the shock. He questioned Light Shadow. “What is your connection with Eunuch Cao then?”

Light Shadow patted his beard. “Hmm, that Cao person tried to usurp the Ming throne, and I offered to help him get rid of the pugilists that are loyal to the emperor. I saw a chance to advance my future and revenge my martial brother’s death, so I plotted for De Pang to leave Wu Dang before sending an army to destroy it to lower other sects’ morale.

At the same time, Eunuch Cao sent a secret letter to the Juchen king to invite him to evade China. He used an attack of Wu Dang and Medicine Forest as an excuse to move soldiers from the border fort. Had it not been because of you nosy people, our army would have stepped on Ming’s soil by now.” His voice was bitter.

Tian Xin-er tapped her head thoughtfully. “Your story doesn’t sound right.”

Light Shadow growled. “What is not right?”

Tian Xin-er explained. “Black Devil should not have been in Central Plains at that time due to his promise to Sword God, Medicine Man, Dragon Lady, and Saber Lord.”

Light Shadow sneered. “Ha-ha. Why did you give my villain martial brother credits of honor so? That time, he visited me at my cave because he wanted to exchange his martial skill with mine. He also wanted to know how my kung fu had advanced. I knew I couldn’t defeat him then, so I pretended to have fire deviation. Black Devil left for his home in Tibet soon after that in fear of the Four Greats.”

Tian Xin-er nodded. “I see, but Ah Yu is your apprentice. Why did you treat him so shabby, compared to his twin brother?” She stared at Ah Yu and had to turn away. She was not yet used to seeing him with Miao Li’s face.

Light Shadow bit his lips. “That is my business, little girl. Ah Yu is doomed with a fate to destroy his closest kin. Although I don’t believe in fortune telling, I can’t risk my Chang-er to associate with him, so I chose Miao Li instead.”

Ah Yu was listening distractedly. It was as if the story was about someone else. Dreamily, he murmured. “Is it true?”

Miao Li took out his half butterfly jade and showed it to the other. “This is another piece of evidence. Didn’t you have another half of this jade too? And didn’t you give it to Jiaping?” He asked, and Ah Yu nodded absentmindedly. “You are really my brother.” He stepped closer to Miao Li who backed away with disgust.

“I am your twin brother, but I hate you. You are my enemy because you are the one who destroyed my life. Had it not been because of you, I would have grown up happily in the palace as the heir prince. Had it not been because of you, Mother wouldn’t have thrown me down the ravine and I wouldn’t have become Black Devil’s apprentice. Do you realize how isolate and lonely I have been all these years? Every time I thought of you sitting on Mother’s lap and being hugged by her, my heart would be burned with fire of hatred. I, Miao Li, have promised to myself that I would have everything you have, own everything you own, and more.”

Ah Yu stared into the other’s eyes, sighing sadly. “That’s why you impersonated me to deceive Jiaping.”

Miao Li’s eyes did not waver. “Yes, blue is the color that I hate the most, but I wore it to commit all kinds of crimes with a leather mask so that everything will be blamed on you.” He roared as he thought of something. “If you want to know, the massacre of Minister Chen was my doing. I killed him because he dared to cause a trouble for Xin-er.” He glanced at Tian Xin-er angrily. “I did a lot for her, but she dared to turn me down for a nobody like Ke Jing. She would be sorry to miss being my queen.”

Ah Yu shook his head slowly. “Miao Li, fame, wealth, and power are just illusions. When one dies, one cannot take any of those with them. If you continue this war, you will cause sufferings for many lives, and your sins would add up. Please, my brother, stop the army and you can have my life.”

Miao Li laughed at the other. “Over my dead body! Ah Yu, you are too naïve. I don’t believe in sins, and as long as I live, I will enjoy what I have. If I don’t find a place for me in this world, how would anyone remember me after I’m gone? As for your life, I don’t want it for I now have everything I want – family, title, power, and wealth. On the contrary, I will share it with you if you will help me.” He narrowed his eyes. “You are not the Ming’s subject, but a Manchurian. You have Aisin Gioro’s blood, and you should show loyalty to your forefathers by get rid of these enemies. Pick up your saber and kill them, my brother.”

Miao Li’s tone was soft and gentle. “Ah Yu, we are twins born of the same parents. We are blood brothers of the royal family. Will you be heartless enough to go against your mentor and your own brother? Are you willing to be a disgrace son to our father? Don’t you want to meet him? Don’t you want to sit on the throne by my side and live happily with your real family?”

Ah Yu looked at his twin brother then at the saber and at his friends then at Miao Li again. He saw himself standing next to Miao Li and an old majestic man. “Father!” He whispered to himself.

Tian Xin-er opened her mouth to warn Ah Yu, but Ke Jing shook his head at her. “Let him make his own decision. He should settle everything with Miao Li by himself.” He whispered but Ah Yu heard him.

“Yes, I am the only one who can settle everything.” He said determinedly and took hold of his saber, standing side by side with Miao Li. He then turned to his twin, speaking quietly. “You are still injured, so let me have your saber.”

Miao Li smiled winningly and handed his saber to the other. “I only want to kill Tian Xin-er with my own hands, so leave her for the last.”

Ah Yu nodded and somersaulted forward, facing Ke Jing and Tian Xin-er. He looked at the young couple for a long time. Finally, he sighed deeply. “I brought Jiaping here because I know that you can take care of her for me. My life is no longer mine, and I cannot offer her my protection anymore. Brother Ke, my parents gave me flesh and blood, and I have to repay them and my birth country, so I hope you would forgive my actions. I would like to duel with you and let fate decide our destinies.”

Ke Jing nodded. “I understand, Ah Yu.” He turned to Tian Xin-er. “If I lose, then try to get out of here.” He said and squeezed her hands. “Don’t worry. I am not ready to die yet.”

He attacked first, and Ah Yu skillfully avoided the coming strikes. Ah Yu then countered the other’s double swords with his pair of sabers. Weapons clashed, and dust flowed as each fought at high speed. They seemed to lose in their own world, and despite the noisy battlefield, the two fighters could only see and hear each other.

The Yin-Yang sabers were the more powerful when used together, and with Ah Yu’s refine energy, every move of his became deadly and undefeatable. Tian Xin-er watched anxiously as Ke Jing barely dodged the other’s chops. She could think of nothing but prayed for Ke Jing’s safety.

Ah Yu performed each stance without hatred, so it was flawless like a saying stated, “without emotion, comes the perfect move. When one’s heart is serene, the weapons will become one with the soul. Then, the skill could reach the highest level.”

Ke Jing discovered that his speed could not overcome the other’s ultimate power for when one saber launched forth, the other would follow, leaving no openings for him to penetrate. Moreover, the two sabers seemed to have their own wills, working in synchronization. Ke Jing gritted his teeth and backed away. Then he flipped to the air and soared forward; his swords aimed straight at the other’s heart. Then, midway, he lowered one sword toward the other’s stomach, while jerking another sword upward toward Ah Yu’s throat. In that way, even if Ah Yu could defend the coming weapons in time, he would not be able to cover both points effectively.

Surprisingly, Ah Yu did not bother to protect his body. Instead, he continued forward, one saber after another, aiming at the opponent. At the same time, Ke Jing’s swords reached their targets, but Ke Jing flipped midair and paused his swords. Simultaneously, Ah Yu’s two sabers touched Ke Jing’s chest, ready to go in. The two men stared at each other for a minute then Ah Yu slowly pulled back his weapons and threw them on the ground. Ke Jing did likewise with his weapons and started another round with his bare fists.

Both of them fought on with countless moves. Both had equally the same level of inner power and each had good command of his martial style. Ke Jing kicked forth, and Ah Yu countered with his feet. Ah Yu hit back, and Ke Jing met it with his palms. Ke Jing was quick, but Ah Yu was nimble. Each excelled in light kung fu.

At one point, Ke Jing sent out his palms, and Ah Yu lifted up his hands. Their hands clashed and the battle of inner force began. As time passed, each realized then that it was impossible to end up the duel without harming each other. Suddenly, Ke Jing felt the other’s steam of energy receded. He also slowly pulled back his power when unexpectedly Ah Yu hit forth. Ke Jing received a blow and lurched backward. Tian Xin-er screamed and rushed to catch him in time. “Ah Jing, are you all right?” She asked with tremble voice.

Ke Jing spat out blood but managed to smile at her. “I’m fine, just need a rest.” Tian Xin-er propped him up against a tree, and he closed his eyes, meditating.

Ah Yu bent down and picked up his sabers then walked to his twin brother. He handed one saber to Miao Li and said, “I have beaten Ke Jing for you.”

Miao Li smiled gleefully. “Thank you my brother even though you wouldn’t kill him yourself. From now on, we two brothers will fight side by side to conquer the world.”

Ah Yu sighed. “Miao Li, it is not too late to change. Won’t you come to live with Jiaping and me in the forest? You can build another cottage there for Bai Chang and your child, and we brothers will have harmony lives.”

Miao Li snorted. “I don’t want that kind of life. I am destined to sit on the top. It is my fate to be the best. I am born to be the king, the emperor, the master of this universe!” He laughed.

Ah Yu gazed at his brother sadly. “Then it is unavoidable that I have to fight you to death. I have repaid Mentor’s kindness and have helped you defeat Ke Jing. Now, it is time that I get rid of you for the good of the world.”

Miao Li spat angrily. “You only said that but actually you want the throne for yourself.” He then softened his voice. “But you are still my brother. Siblings are like each other’s limbs, so no matter what, I can never wrong you.”

He embraced Ah Yu, whose eyes lightened then dimmed with astonishment as Miao Li’s palm hit at his back forcefully. Miao Li continued. “But if that limb is rotten, then I have to severe it in order to survive.” He stabbed forth with his saber.

Ah Yu’s face distorted with pain. Nonetheless, he managed to lift his saber to ward off Miao Li’s saber before staggering away. He breathed in deeply and fixed his eyes on his twin brother hard and long. Finally, he nodded. “This must be the will of heaven to give you a fair fight. At least, everything now is in the destiny’s hand.”

Immediately, he flew toward Miao Li with full force and chopped down, and Miao Li instinctively covered his body with his blade. The Yin-Yang sabers crashed with each other, sending sparks all over. The clashing force sent Miao Li backward a few paces, and Ah Yu relentlessly pursued the other. Just as he struck the second time, Bai Chang rushed to the front of Miao Li to stop Ah Yu; therefore, she became the saber’s victim instead. Ah Yu let go of his saber and caught her falling body. Almost at the same time, Miao Li grabbed a chance and stabbed his saber right into Ah Yu’s belly. Ah Yu roared as he felt blood gushing out; he instantly dropped Bai Chang and sent out his palms with his last strength, hitting directly at Miao Li’s chest.

Blood instantly spurted from Miao Li’s mouth and nose, and he reeled down, breathing no more. Ah Yu himself collapsed next to Bai Chang’s dead body. He looked at her apologetically. “Chang-er, I am sorry.” He muttered faintly.

Tian Xin-er ran to him and immediately sealed his death point. She then began to transfer her energy to him, but Ah Yu shook his head. “It is no use. Even if you can help me, I can’t go on living.” He shakily lifted his hands and looked at them strangely. “I have never thought that I would ever kill anyone in my life, but I can’t avoid my own destiny. I deserve to die because I am the cause of everything. I have sowed the evil seed in my brother’s heart, and only my blood could cleanse his sins. At least, we brothers can be together forever.” He coughed out blood as his pulse became weaker and weaker.

He then ask Tian Xin-er to accept Jiaping as her apprentice. “I can’t stick around to protect her, so please teach her martial arts so that she will not be harmed.”

Tian Xin-er nodded, and Ah Yu asked her to prop him up straight. Then he called out loudly. “I, Miao Li, order the Juchen army to retreat immediately.” He smiled at Tian Xin-er and murmured inaudibly. “That is all I can do for my friends.”

Tian Xin-er called his name, but he could no longer answer her. The world had just lost one of the bravest heroes today.

Light Shadow cried at the tragic sight. He stumbled to his granddaughter and shed his tears for her. “Chang-er, it is all my doing. I have harmed you, little one. Chang-er, Chang-er, please forgive your grandpa.” He sobbed then slowly lifted her up and walked away with grief. After a few paces, he looked back at the bodies of the twin brothers. “I understand now. Ah Yu’s closest kin was his twin brother.” He nodded sadly, but his eyes were peaceful. “Everything is but an emptiness. All these years’ efforts are resulted in death. Now that I have nobody left, my fire is also burned out. Why should I fight anymore?” He mumbled to himself and disappeared into a forest.

Chapter 36
At the End of the Road

Tian Xin-er looked around and saw that the enemy troop was leaving. She sighed with relief and ran to Ke Jing who opened his eyes. “Ah Jing, we are safe now. The Juchen is withdrawing its troop, and we all owe this to Ah Yu.” Tears came into her eyes.

Ke Jing held her hands. “Yes, we have to thank him for saving many lives.”

Tian Fei who had arrived agreed. “Ah Yu would always be the hero in our hearts.”

At that moment, Ah Yi (Andy Lau Tak Wah) appeared and politely paid his respect to his father-in-law. Tian Fei greeted him warmly. “I heard from Master De that you went to Emei. How is everything there?” He asked.

Ah Yi’s eyes turned gloomy. “I have gone there too late. Emei Sect was destroyed, and…and Zhong Xi Shi Tai…” He could not continue, and Tian Xin-er hurriedly interrupted. “What happened to Master?”

Her heart grew cold as Ah Yi gently informed her that Zhong Xi Shi Tai had committed suicide along with her disciples, and she heard him no more. “In order not to be humiliated by the soldiers.” Ah Yi avoided his sister-in-law’s eyes and pulled out an envelope from his shirt. “Father-in-law, this is a letter addressed to you.” He handed Zhong Xi Shi Tai’s last message to Tian Fei who opened it and read its content thoughtfully. Then he glanced at Ah Yi and turned to his daughter sympathetically in time to catch her unconscious body. Quietly, he told everyone to help the injured into the fort. He himself carried Tian Xin-er into her room where Jiaping and Shu Xiayue had been waiting anxiously.

Jiaping asked immediately about Ah Yu, and Shu Xiayue wanted to know if they had won. Tian Fei heaved a sigh; he hardly knew how to begin. Tenderly, he told the former everything. “…Xin-er can give you more details than I can, but she is not well at the moment.”

Jiaping’s world spun. Her knees suddenly turned weak, and her limbs were numb. From afar, she heard Shu Xiayue called her name with concern but could not find her voice to reply. Tears flowed from her lively eyes, and her heart that was so happy the night before bled. Suddenly she called out, “Ah Yu!” and fainted into Shu Xiayue’s arms.

Tian Xin-er was not the only one that was effected by the news of Zhong Xi Shi Tai’s death. As soon as Mu Zhen heard it, he immediately coughed out blood and collapsed. Turned out that the wounds that he had received back at Wu Dang was opened up again from strenuous fighting with the Juchens. Sick with grief at heart and from old and new wounds, Mu Zhen lost his will to live and passed away few days later.

De Pang accepted his martial brother’s demise calmly. “Death and life, one is leaving this world whereas another means entering it. Each was the cause of the other like egg and hen. My master had always told me not to enter priesthood until I understand the meaning of death and life. I did not know what he mean until Ah Qing’s death.” He spoke quietly, finding at last the way of light.

On the other hand, Jiaping pined for Ah Yu and refused to touch any food until Tian Xin-er called on her one evening. Tian Xin-er brought out a martial art manual and presented it to Jiaping. “This is Ah Yu’s last wish. He wanted me to teach you how to protect yourself.”

Jiaping looked at her friend in tears. “Why did he leave me so soon? He was the kindest man I have ever met, and we were about to get married. Why?”

Tian Xin-er shook her head. Her heart was leaden. “I don’t know Jiaping. Sometimes, it is hard to make sense out of everything.” She gave the other a hug. “I believe that it was Ah Yu’s fate to save the two countries from war. He was born for this purpose, and he successfully performed his task. He died as a hero, which is more than can be said about Miao Li.”

Jiaping took out her half butterfly jade and kissed it gently. “Ah Yu gave this to me right before we left the Medicine Forest. When I saw Miao Li in Ah Yu’s clothes again, I mistook him for Ah Yu until I saw his other half of the jade. He then left me in the cave, saying that he would be back.” She reminisced the past and smiled sadly at its irony.

“Xin-er, I have decided to become a priestess so that I can pray for Miao Li’s soul. I am sure that Ah Yu would be in the heaven right now and would have wished me to help his twin brother from hell.”

Tian Xin-er stared hard at her friend. “Are you sure, Jiaping?”

The other nodded, and Tian Xin-er replied carefully. “I have to talk this matter over with my father, but for now, I will formally accept you as my apprentice.”

Jiaping kneeled down and kowtowed nine times to her mentor, and Tian Xin-er helped her up. “This manual is the basic kung fu skills. When you finish it, then I will teach you more advanced ones, but first you have to eat to gain strength. It is very tiring to practice martial arts, and until you can take care of yourself, I will feel bad for not able to fulfill Ah Yu’s wish.”

She cleverly talked Jiaping into eating and resting. After that, she returned to her room to find that Tian Fei and Ke Jing had been waiting for her. The latter smiled at her, and she smiled back. These past few days that she was engulfed in sorrow, Ke Jing had faithfully stayed by her side and helped to bring her out of the cocoon of sadness.

Tian Fei coughed a few times and suddenly proposed a wedding between Ke Jing and her. “You two have known each other for a while now, and I can see that you are in love. Ah Jing is a nice boy, and I can rest assure that he will be good to you.” He looked out of the window and released a long sigh.

“The current political situation of our country is unpredictable. The nation is in turmoil from wars and famine. Not only the foreigners, but there are also several rebels against Ming. Teacher used to tell me to let everything follow its course. He said that everything is from nature and will eventually return to nature. Hmm. I have proved my loyalty to the emperor and have done my best although I am afraid that this Ming dynasty is approaching its end.”

Tian Xin-er added. “That’s because the evil Eunuch Cao.”

Tian Fei touched his gray beard. “The ruler is weak, so his subjects turned corrupted.” He shook his head and returned to the original topic. “Because everything is so uncertain, I wish to see you have a family very soon so that I can answer to your aunt at the White Pearl Island this time.” He concluded teasingly, and Tian Xin-er blushed.

Ke Jing grinned widely and glanced at his bride-to-be. “Thank you, Father-in-law.” Tian Fei chuckled and looked at his daughter. “How about you, Xin-er?”

Tian Xin-er looked down shyly then suddenly jerked up as she had just realized something. “But I can’t marry yet. As the Emei’s disciple, I should mourn for my master according to custom. Moreover, I have to train Jiaping and reestablish Emei Sect.”

Tian Fei gazed at his daughter considerately. He tried to search for a right word. “Er, you don’t need to do those things anymore because you are no longer Emei’s disciple.” He handed her Zhong Xi Shi Tai’s letter. “She stated clearly in the letter that there are no more ties between Emei and you. Xin-er, she wanted you to be free.”

Tian Xin-er paled as she read her master’s letter. She dropped the paper and ran blindly out of the room. Ke Jing called, “Xin-er!” and immediately rushed after her.

He found her near a haystack, crying her heart out. After a while, she looked up at him. “I know that she didn’t want me to feel oblige to become a priestess and carry on Emei’s legacy, but even if I had to do just that, I wouldn’t be sorry at all. Will you blame me then?”

Ke Jing sat down and embraced her lovingly. “I am happy if you are happy, Xin-er, but your master must have known you very well, so she decided to give you a way out rather than forcing you to choose. I am grateful to her, and you should not feel bad because that would not be her wish.” He gently wiped her red nose and kissed her eyebrows lightly.

Tian Xin-er was calmer now. She dried her eyes on his shirt. “Let’s go to Emei tomorrow. I want to pay her the last respect and introduce you to her.”

Ke Jing nodded, patting her hair. “All right. We will take Jiaping along with us too until we can find a place for her to stay.”

Tian Xin-er did not answer him. She knitted her eyebrows thoughtfully.

Tian Fei readily permitted the young couple to leave the fort. He would also accompany them along with De Pang and Man He. But before they left, Tian Fei had performed a quick ceremony to hand over Sword South School’s leadership to Huang Yitao with Huang Jiwen as his helper.

Li Renying also said farewells to everyone. “I decide to travel about, devoting myself to help others.” Tian Fei nodded and patted the other’s back. “Good-bye.”

Each person’s road of destiny again untangled separated from that of other’s. Ah Yi was sent to the Medicine Forest to spread the news to Tian Bao and his wife. De Pang and Man He cremated Mu Zhen and brought his ashes to Emei. “All his life, he wished to be near Ah Ju, so we are going to scatter his ashes over the cliff of Emei so that he can keep her company.”

De Pang continued. “After that, I will retreat to an isolate place, studying the Taoist teaching.” He turned to Man He and Ah Zhu. “Wu Dang is in your hands now. Just remember that you don’t have to be at Mt. Wu Dang to be a Wu Dang.”

Throughout the journey to Emei, Tian Xin-er was quiet. In the evening, she would stay up late in her room, and during daytime, she would keep Jiaping by her side, instructing the latter on martial arts and Emei’s rules. Ke Jing was concerned but Tian Fei thought it was a good sign. “That means she is willing to let go. She is working hard to prepare Jiaping for the task of restoring Emei so that she can marry you without worries.”

Ke Jing relaxed a little, hoping that the other was right. He said nothing to Tian Xin-er but sat in front of her room, guarding her every night.

The last day before going up the Mt. Emei, Tian Xin-er called Jiaping into her room. She then presented the other several booklets. “I have been writing everything I could remember about Emei to assist you in the future.” She suddenly kneeled down.

“I know that I should be the one who perform this task, but Master saw it differently. Jiaping, you are the last Emei disciple, so it is up to you to rebuild our sect. I shall be forever grateful to you.” She kowtowed three times despite the other’s protest.

Jiaping quickly helped her mentor up. “I will try not to disappoint you.”

Tian Xin-er cupped her hands and bowed to the other gratefully. “Thank you. Thank you.”

She then pointed at her bed. “Come here then, and I will transfer my energy into you. This inner power originally belonged to my grand-master, Xun Ci Shi Tai, so now that I am not Emei’s disciple, I should not keep it with me.” She said sadly and sat cross-legged behind Jiaping.

Ke Jing was pacing outside Tian Xin-er’s room nervously when he heard a bang from inside. Quickly, he dashed into the room and saw the unconscious Jiaping on the bed and Tian Xin-er on the floor. The bang was from a chair falling over when she rolled off the bed. Ke Jing immediately checked their pulses and turned to report to Tian Fei and De Pang who had turned up at the door. “They are all right. Xin-er must have given too much energy to Jiaping and fainted from exhaustion, and Jiaping was probably just overwhelmed by her new force. After some rest, they should come to.” He gave a diagnosis with relief.

De Pang in priest garb spoke thoughtfully. “Miss Tian is a strong woman. She really wants to return everything to Emei.”

Tian Fei shook his head at his daughter’s strange idea. “Who would have taught that she would be that proud?”

Ke Jing picked up Tian Xin-er and carried her to the bed. He then wetted a towel and wiped her face tenderly. After a few minutes, Jiaping came to, and De Pang escorted her to her room. After another moment, Tian Xin-er opened her eyes and saw Ke Jing and Tian Fei hovering over her with great concerns.

Tian Fei silently poured a cup of tea for her and after making sure that she was all right, he departed. Left alone together, Ke Jing stared hard at his beloved and finally spoke severely. “Xin-er, don’t you ever try this trick again, or I will spank you.” He sounded very serious, and Tian Xin-er swallowed her giggles.

Instead, she smiled at him sweetly. “It is not like I am going to die. After all, I have promised to bore you at least three sons to carry the names of Ke, Guo, and Yang.” She flushed, looking fragile and pretty.

Ke Jing wrapped her tightly in his embrace and mumbled. “Not just three sons but dozens of children. We will have beautiful daughters and handsome sons – just hope they are not as naughty as their mother is.”

Tian Xin-er pinched his arm, pouting. “You spoke as if I was a pig.”

Ke Jing winced, and Tian Xin-er laughed at him. “I still can give you some pain even without energy.” She looked at him innocently. “Now that I cannot run a race with you up the mountain, will you carry me instead?”

Ke Jing kissed her forehead. “I will carry you to the end of the world if you want me to, my dear.”

Tian Xin-er closed her eyes happily. “Ah Jing, didn’t you say that your Ancient Tomb has some interesting energy cultivating techniques?” She murmured as she drifted wearily into the dreamless sleep.

Ke Jing smiled and whispered to her ears. “Yes, Xin-er.” But she was already asleep.

From the Author

Dear my readers,

(Sigh with relief) Finally, the second Fanfic is finished! I felt that I have accomplished a piece of art and sincerely hope that readers would regard it at least as something worth their times.

This second Fanfic of mine is started out from personal obligation for I felt Tian Xin-er deserved her own tale with further adventures. From the prequel, many readers have mentioned that the story was rather confusing and fast-paced. So, in this sequel, I simplified the plot and instead focused more on each character. I also slowed down the pace, and as the result, some chapters seemed soap opera-like.

Admittedly, I have less confidence with this story than the first due to good comments I received from my first Fanfic. I hope that I have met readers’ high expectations.

The theme of the trilogy, which by now could be guessed, is about twins. I have always been fascinated by tales of twins and hope that it could come across to my readers. I am very much eager to go on to the next story that I plan to be a long one. If my writing still has not bored you yet, then please keep on reading and giving comments.

Thank you for all your opinions and your time in reading this Fanfic. It has no other value except for entertainment purpose and hopefully does its job well.

Any suggestions or valuations are always appreciated so that at least I know someone is reading my story out there. 

With love,

Gigi.

gosh....i don;t know wht to say.
I've got a plethora of feelings after reading the ending.
Different feelings like different energy streams clashing in my mind and body.
I've guessed all along that Ah Yu was Miao Li's twin brother. There wasn;t any doubt in me as well that the good in Ah Yu will not waver to circumstances. Next to the absolutely faultless character of Ke Jing, Ah Yu is the one character I've absolutely grown very attached to. So its very heart wrenching to see him die. At the same time he died a noble death, fitting for a man of his virtues. But i'm saddened more by the pain that JiaPing has to go through. I'm sure for her death will be easier than living and yet she has to live on. Goofy, i must say you have done a wonderful job in developing the relationship between Ah Yu and JiaPing to the extend where as a reader i almost came to tears when Ah Yu died thinking about how devastated JiaPing was. I feel the depth and intensity of their love was even greater than that of Ke Jing and Xin-Er. And i enjoyed it very much as it really touches the heart.

I think you are improving with every chapter that you write. You would be ridiculously harsh to yourself to think that you can't live up to the standards of Legends of the Sword & Sabre. Don;t let us readers affect your style too much. Just be yourself & go with the flow!

WELL DONE !!!!!!!!!

I think I will print your comment out and paste it in my memory book.

Not mean to sound too proud but I don't mind reading this kind of comment very often.

what element made you guess about ah yu being the other twin? Hopefully, this factor would make the plot intrigue enough but not too confusing.

In my mind, Ah Yu and Ke Jing were equally main characters. The main theme and all key events involved around Ah Yu whereas Ke Jing was the loveable model who got the heroine with happy ending.

I love Ke Jing in the beginning then got more feeling for Ah Yu toward the end probably b/c Jackie Liu left everlasting impression on me from SOD series. He could act both good and evil.

Coincidentally, I was watching legendary siblings TVB version and it was too bad that I couldn't make Ah Yu turn alive like Little Fish.

But sometimes, it is just better to die an hero than to live a commoner.
I have thought a lot and at one point almost decided to let him live but finally realized that he had to fulfill his destiny.

Jiaping also was needed to replace Xin-er at Emei.

Actually I was going to destroy all of her martial arts but decided that there were enough depressing things.

did you feel anything for Mu Zhen too? although he was not talked of much here, hopefully his love for ah Ju was equally impressive too.

thank you for your kind comments.

Very nice ending, Goofy! I was afraid that you'd be in a hurry to close the story so you can start with the new one. Again you surprised us. Instead of an abrupt ending, you left the readers thoroughly satisfied.
Thank you for creating this masterpiece and sharing it with us
I'm glad that Xin-er still retained her kungfu.
It's sad that Ah Yu died in the end, but that was very clever solution to have Jiaping becoming the leader of Emei so Xin-er and Ke Jing can marry .
Don't really care too much about Mu Zhen, since he didn't appear long enough in the story for the readers to bond with him. I think he's rather weak just to die like that when the person he loved was gone. I much prefer Li Renying.
Thanks again

One reader at winglin site just told me that the ending was too abrupt.

I would like to go on to the new fanfic but did not hurry the ending though some details could have been more.

I just felt sometimes it is better to leave the readers to imagine the atmosphere of their own and it is more dramatic to focus on just Ah Yu and miao Li to fit the theme of the trilogy.

Actually, Mu Zhen died from wounds and depression - just think of how many generals in ROTK died from spatting out blood...

Watch for the next story for I think the plot will be good. Although it depends yet on how I can put all details into actual words. I am pretty excited myself and have been prepped up by watching some old series.

Wow! Wow Wow Wow!
I'm still in shock....i can't believe this story is finished...luckily their's a triology...

I haven't been able to comment for quite a few chapters and i can honestly say that they get better and better and more exciting. I love the fact that Xin Er bore three sons for Ke and Guo and Yang, I've always felt sad that Guo Jing's heirs never lived long enough to carry his name through the Ming Dynasty.

After reading this story, i feel kinda sad because it's ended and because i have always loved Xiang Er more than Xin Er and i feel as if Xin Er gets a more exciting story than her sister...

Anyways, you've done a great job and i can't wait to read the last part of this triology.

I liked the poem at the end, but i want to know who was the sister whom became her brother's apprentice?

Keep it up!
Read the Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud now. I swear that you won't regret meeting someone like Bartimaeus. Ever.

Hey Goofy. Sorry for not commenting for such a long time. I haven't finished your first story yet. I still have a few more chapters to go, but I'm almost there. Unfortunately, my bad habit kicked in and I couldn't resist but take a peek at your second story. I love the gathering at the beginning of the story. The description of the various sword fighting techniques awed me to no end. You are a true wuxia master. I haven't had time to read anyone's fanfic lately. However, rest assured that I will finish your story soon.
