    Cool

Just a quick question from a Chinese illiterate person: what are the differences in meanings and use of -er and yee as in the names. EX: Guo yee or Long-er. What is the correct way of addressing names in short?

er is mandarin pronounciation while yee is cantonese so both mean the same thing.

Just to add what Er/Yi(Yee) means : literally it means child or son. In names, it's a endearment like the Japanese suffix -chan.

SC, on the second paragraph can you chang e "All three females" into "All three figures"? I meant to opt for the gender of master in black. Thanks.

I know you meant Ah Lan to be beautiful, but I like that the main characters(presumed she is one)have strong characteristic rather than just mere beauty. I am kind of tired of reading love at first sight because of beauty. In many of JY's, although all lead females are beautiful, they actually impress lead males by disguises first or just mere characteristic.

Come on... there's got to more people here who would want to participate in this story than the three of us. Goofy... I like the twist of events... the disguises thing to infiltrate the Cheung household is promising. I'm not going to add anything more for now... BECAUSE I want others to have a chance as well. Hmmm... as for SC's question on who the main hero should be, well, I'm not sure either. So far the mysterious scarred man in black seems very appealing. I'm a sucker for tortured men

Yeah, I agree with you Goofy... beauty can only get you so far. Ah Lan seems to be shaping up as a good major character as well. I'm really curious exactly which side she's really working for... the dark or the light... hee hee

Actually, I have fun writing this although I would not be able to do my own fanfic due to my limited Chinese knowledge. I really like this roundrobin fanfic idea, and hope people would participate more. Jennifer, you do a good job at translating, why not give a shot at it? C Monster, you did a good job describing building, I hope you will write about Cheung House. I am kind of free these days so have more time to think about writing, but as you say, I don't want to monopolize the story and rather wait for someone to continue the story.

Unfortunately I can't contribute to the story until next week is over (final exams week), though I am itching to get away from my books.

I am in total agreement that the hero doesn't fall for a girl because of her beauty alone.

Sorry to everyone if I am not getting back to your requests in the next few days, I probably won't go online much.

I agree that our hero should not fall in love at first sight, I like the two main characters to gradually fall in love, like in "Jane Eyre", he was not handsome, she was not beautiful but it was a beautiful love story.
hmmm can I not make Cheung Ping a descendent of Cheung Mo Kei? I was going to turn him into an evil character
I actually had to print the story out since it is getting really good and would be helpful if I want to contribute something (trying to keep the characters consistent) :

TKL, of course. I just added that Chueng Family doesn't have to be Cheung Mo Kei's descendants so that you writers won't be constrained by it.

    Cool

Thanks for changing the texts for me.

Good luck for people in the States on your exams.

I kind of expect Lau Hong to be a main hero because he has personality traits like LHC in SOD, my favorite charater.

As for Cheng Ping, why not make him a tragic one and have his fiance be the evil one who wants to spy out the Cheung's secret. (I love intrigued story.)

    Just a thought.......

Kind of interesting how you and I think in similar veins, Goofy

Yeah -- I thought the Cheung household might be harboring some deep dark secrets too. Never liked the all too righteous clans too much. Li Yu Mei (coined the most beautiful maiden and the fiance of Cheung Ping) might turn out to be an interesting character more of the diabolical vein. I sense that she and my scarred friend had some prior dealings together.

I was musing that while the Cheung family might not be directly related to Cheung Mo Gei, they could be still somehow connected. Like an ancestor of theirs was his adopted son or something... that could be how they have some connection to the 9 Yeung Jun Ging.

BTW Goofy, if you like Lau Hong so much you can be the one in charge with developing his character and storyline... others could take a pick on the others that they're interested in exploring. This is a collaborative effort so the story intertwines but everyone should have fun doing it.

I want to clarify on my story. I don't try to connect the 9 yin or 9 yang on the kungfu demonstrated by the woman in the inn (Ah Lan) because I don't really know the specifics of both manuals. I kind of connect both manual with Cheung, assuming that the Cheung is somehow connected to Cheung Bo Kei; therefore, should have both 9 yin and 9 yang manuals. Bo Kei himself practiced 9 yang and later has 9 yin from Chow Chi Yok. If I am wrong, please correct me on this. Anyway, since Lau Hong's sifu is Fong, will he have anything to do with Fong Chin Yang?

    Someone, please continue the story.

I already imagine Lau Hong's future in my mind. Though I will go with the flow of the story too.

SC, who are you intending as a hero?

Goofy, I was originally intending to make him come out a lot later, a bit of a surprise as to his identity but I'm not too sure how to develop it yet.

Just wanted to mention, that for those who read the HSDS novel, there is a twist that perhaps another person might "discover" the 9 Yang manual too since Cheung Mo Kei never kept the written copy and only memorized it. Alright, don't want to leak too much, but it might be an interesting twist to add to the fan fic.

    Wink

I just made a list of characters and tied them with the respective clans that we have come up with so far to help me remember them all in the story. The count is 13, pretty good so far. <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0"> Happy that everyone is pacing the story and taking time for details.

Here's some more to add to the story:

Fong Zheng and his 2 disciples left early the next morning. Acquainting themselves with Mong Ley Monk, they agreed to travel together towards White Krane Mt. It began snowing heavily and the winds became razor sharp and blew mercilessly. Their tunics and cloaks flapped furiously along and for another two hours, no one spoke to one another while the wind made the only chatter.

Lau Hong finally grumbled to Cheng Yuen Jin, "How I miss the weather at Honan! If only we had a mount or carriage to ride to the mountain pass, we wouldn't have to brave this weather by foot."

As if these were magical words, a tinkling sound slowly could be heard along with the thumping of hoofbeats. A merchant's cargo carriage wagon gradually came closer into view from the distance. A large bell was attached at the top of the carriage. A fat bellied man with bright rosy cheeks was steering the horse. A thick blanket covered his lower torso from the chilling weather.
He hailed the travelers, "Good day! Are you sirs going to Sword Lake Sect?"

Mong Ley Monk acknowledged it, "We are."

"This is my 3rd trip back from town to get supplies for the young master's wedding. Lord Cheung has given me orders that I should give any guests that I see along the way a ride to the mountain pass. Unfortunately, we can not cross the slippery pass by carriage though--it would be too dangerous. I have a simple shack near the pass where we can rest for a bit before crossing."

Grateful to escape the harsh weather, they obliged, seeing that it would also mean another 3 arduous hours of walking to the pass. They climbed up into the wagon from the back. They were, however, surprised to see that aside from some wine vats, there were already two passengers sitting crossed legged next to each other. The first was a man dressed like a scholar, in his early thirties, with quite starking white complexion. He was dressed all in white. Next to him in direct contrast, was a fully whiskered man, big, ruffian-looking, dressed in dark colors, arms crossed. He glared at everyone who boarded the wagon. The two of them sitting together, one so refined-looking while the other obviously a man of brute was quite a juxtaposition.

Mong Ley Monk pressed his palms together to acknowledge them. The scholar cupped his fist in return while the ruffian scowled.

The ruffian said to the scholar loudly, "We have company. At least we are not the only ones duped." As he spoke, some spit fell on the scholars face. The scholar wiped his face calmly.

Puzzled by such a strange comment, the travelers settled themselves uneasily onto the wagon.

    Cool

I meant to wait, but have a finger itch.

Far ahead of them, someone was crossing the treacherous pass of White Crane Mountain with lightening speeds. At this time of year, this narrow and winding path was covered with icy snow and howling wind, rendering the road almost impossible to be crossed. Yet, this person was totally oblivious to neither icy wind that wrapped around him nor the slippery ground underneath him. All his energy was focus on running as fast as he could. Indeed his light kung fu was incredible. He did not look like running but flying; his feet barely touched the ground for every step he took. What urgent errands could send him running like this?

Should I continue and reveal who he is or leave it at that?
