In a few minutes, two horses stopped in front of them. They both were surprised to see who’s coming.

“What are you doing here?” asked Li Qing to Qi Lan who rode one of the horses and stopped in front of them.

“Huh, you don’t want to see me don’t you?” pouted Qi Lan. “Unfortunately my father sent me here. My mother brought more foods for you and this is from your servant A Yung,” said Wong Qi Lan extended a small box to Hai Lung. “A Yung asked me to deliver your calligraphy tool box since he thought that you can’t live without it. Anyway, it’s better for you to keep this picture and don’t show it to anyone,” said Qi Lan snubbed. The picture she meant was a picture of Yang Li Qing which was painted by Hai Lung.

Hai Lung’s cheeks blushed. A Yung and Qi Lan must have opened the picture he made.

“Thank you!” said Hai Lung and said nothing.
“So tomorrow morning you will go back to your father, right?” asked Li Qing. She disliked Qi Lan since the girl was very annoying. She had tried so many times to treat the girl nicely, but Qi Lan always tried to hurt her.

“Ah, too bad for you Miss Yang! Look at the other horses I brought! My mother said that I should bring one more horse so that Brother Wen doesn’t have to be in one chariot with you. My mother said that you are bewitching those two men, and that could be dangerous for those two men. So mother asked me to accompany you all to the Yutai troupe and after that to BianJing,” said Qi Lan with a polite alluding voice.

“What?” said Li Qing frowned.

“Miss Wong, I think that you can leave one horse for us, and after that you can return to your parents. You don’t have to be worry about us,” said Hai Lung. He knew that Qi Lan would only ruin their quite and pleasant journey.

“Ah, my mother is right when she said about you all!” said Qi Lan. “Surely you don’t want me to be with you since I may disturb your party, huh?”

“Just stop using your mother as an excuse. You want to join us since you want to be close to Hai Lung, don’t you?” said Li Qing.

Qi Lan’s cheeks blushed as Li Qing could read her mind. Hai Lung said nothing and just watched the two girls.

Before they were able to say anything, suddenly they heard Levi screamed.

“Brother Levi,” shouted Hai Lung. Li Qing, Hai Lung and Qi Lan spontaneously ran to tent to see Levi.

Levi was trying to kill a snake who bite his hand using his short knife. The snake had a red blood color. It seemed to be a poisonous snake.

Hai Lung pulled his fan and use the fan to kill the snake. The snake fell on the ground with its body torn in two.

“Levi are you alright?” asked Li Qing and Hai Lung, while Qi Lan took the snake and examined the snake.

“The snake is a deadly poisonous snake,” said Qi Lan after she examined the snake. “If he doesn’t take any antidote in less than 48 hours, he will surely die after 72 hours!”

Levi said nothing. His hand where he was bitten by the snake was swollen and now it turns to dark. The poison had spread on his body.
Spontaneously Hai Lung pressed some of Levi’s blood points to stop the poison spread.

“Urgh,” Levi groaned and he fainted. Soon as he fainted, his body temperature dropped rapidly.
Li Qing took her knife and stabbed the knife on Levi’s wound to emit the poison from Levi’s wound. But it’s no use since the poison had already spread.

“What should we do?” asked Li Qing. She almost cried when she saw Levi fainted and his body become very cold.

“I think I know how to cure him,” said Qi Lan.

“Qi Lan, please tell us how to cure him!” said Hai Lung almost begging to Qi Lan.

“Well, it means that I have to return to JiuQuan and take some medicine. But how can do that? My fa…..Mr. Wong Man Siu will catch me and won’t let me go!” said Qi Lan.

“Then I will accompany you to return to JiuQuan right now and find an antidote for brother Levi,” said Hai Lung.

“What? Right now?” asked Qi Lan. “Can’t we take something to eat first?” asked Qi Lan again. But she didn’t say anything again since she saw Hai Lung frowned.

“Hey, give this to him and make sure that you transfer some energy to make him warmer!” said Qi Lan threw two small bottles to Li Qing. "Make him drink this first pill first. Only after his heart pulse is normal, you can give him the second pill!"

Li Qing said nothing and carefully checked the pills in the bottles.

“Don’t waste your time, give it to him now to stop the poison,” said Qi Lan.

“Li Qing, you take good care of Brother Levi while I go to JiuQuan to find an antidote,” said Hai Lung.

Li Qing nodded her head. She seemed to be very confused and worried with Levi’s condition.

Hai Lung and Qi Lan then galloped their horses to go back to JiuQuan. Li Qing gave the medicine to Levi and she felt glad that after awhile Levi took the medicine, his face no longer dark. Levi’s face turned to pale now.

“Levi, are you feeling better now?” asked Li Qing. Levi opened his eyes, but he felt very weak. Li Qing transferred her energy from her hands to Levi’s back. After awhile, Levi’s face no longer pale and looked normal.

“Your heart pulse is normal now," said Li Qing and she started to give the second pill to Levi. After awhile, Levi no longer weak but he became very sleepy and fell asleep.

"Strange, your heart pulse is normal and supposed you are recovered now,” thought Li Qing felt confused. “But you’re weak and sleepy like this…. This is not normal.... could it be that this second pill is a sleeping pill?” Li Qing shook her head. She didn’t want to have such a bad prejudice to Qi Lan, especially after the girl gave her medicines to cure Levi.

Li Qing took out some sulfur from her bag and started to pour the sulfur surround the horses, her chart and the tent. She found out that actually Levi and Hai Lung had already poured some sulfur around their camping ground to get rid of snakes. She really couldn’t understand why a snake could sneak out to their camping area.

She never thought that the snake was brought by Qi Lan. Qi Lan wanted to make fun of Li Qing and Hai Lung. Qi Lan had a lot of snakes, and she intended to take revenge to Li Qing and wanted to scared Li Qing. She never thought that the snake would bite Levi instead of Li Qing. Actually the medicine she gave to Li Qing was an antidote to cure the poison, while the other medicine was a sleeping pill to make Levi sleep for two days and two nights without being able to wake up even only for a few minutes. Qi Lan did that since she wanted to go around with Hai Lung and made Li Qing worry.

I thought Qi Lan got better... At least my interpretation was that since she didn't mean to hurt Levi, she gave him the antidote. Still selfish but not heartless. Ha ha I could be wrong though. If she turned good without some big lesson then it wouldn't be as convincing and good.

Thanks for reading Goofy and lil_bubble.

Anyway lil_bubble, since your ex bf was a Jewish, I'm sure you know a lot about Jewish guys. Do you think that Levi is Jewish enough or not? What do you think?

ha ha ha. I think he's TOO Jewish/religious. But that's according to modern standards. Back then, they probably don't have reform right? So Levi is definitely Jewish enough for his time.

“Brother Hai Lung, I’ m very tired and sleepy! Can we stop and take a rest awhile?” asked Qi Lan with her melodious voice.

“Qi Lan, Brother Levi is in danger, we have to reach JiuQuan as soon as possible and find an antidote for him,” said Hai Lung.
“But Brother Hai Lung…if he took my medicine, he supposed to be normal now!” said Qi Lan. Just a second after she said that, she realized that she had made a wrong statement. Lucky for her that Hai Lung didn’t hear what she said and just kept on galloping his horse.
After some time, Qi Lan couldn’t stand again. She was very tired and she almost felt from her horse. “Brother Hai Lung help me!” shouted Qi Lan.

Lucky for Qi Lan that Hai Lung could catch her so she didn’t slip from her horse’s back.

“Qi Lan, are you alright?” asked Hai Lung.

“Brother, I’m tired,” said Qi Lan almost cried. “Believe me, Brother Levi will be alright if he took my medicine I gave to Li Qing.” Qi Lan didn’t lie, since she really gave an antidote to Li Qing.

“Okay, then we should rest first. We go to that house and ask if owner will let us sleep on his house or not,” said Hai Lung pointed a small hut not far away from them.

After awhile Hai Lung and Qi Lan went to the hut and ask permission if they could stay for one night on that hut. Lucky that the owner of the hut allowed them to stay at his house. That night. Hai Lung couldn’t sleep since he had to sleep on the living room since he couldn’t sleep in one room with Qi Lan.

Just as Hai Lung almost asleep, he heard some horses galloped towards the hut. The men riding the horses stop in front of the house and they entered the house yard. Hai Lung peeped from the window to find out who they were. He was shocked as he recognized Wong Man Siu and Wong Man Li as two of the eight men who came to the hut.

“Wong Man Siu must have recognized me as one of those who destroy his headquarters. I can’t handle him now. It will waste my time and endanger Brother Levi’s life,” thought Hai Lung. Hai Lung decided to sneak out to the room where Qi Lan was sleeping.

“What are you doing?” shouted Qi Lan when she heard Hai Lung entering her room. In the same time, the house owner opened the door for the other eight guests.

Hai Lung gave a signal to Qi Lan asked her to remain quiet. Just as she was about to ask Hai Lung about what’s going on, she heard Wong Man Siu’s voice.

“Old man, just give us some food and drink, we will eat and drink at your place before we go!” said a man’s voice from outside of the room. It was Wong Man Siu’s voice.

“Your mother’s ex husband is outside. I’m worry that he might ruin our plan!” whispered Hai Lung slowly.

“What should we do?” asked Qi Lan slowly.

“Just wait until almost dawn, then we leave this place secretly!” said Hai Lung. Qi Lan nodded her head. She liked Hai Lung so much that she would obey anything that Hai Lung told her.

“Master, just seat down here and I will prepare some foods for you,” said the old man who own the house.

“Just hurry up!” said another man with rude voice.

“Master Wong, half part of our headquarters has become a ruin. And although we knew the girl’s face, we didn’t know who she is. It’s very difficult to find out where she is now if we don’t know her name,” said one of the men.

Hai Lung and Qi Lan still listened from their room carefully. Qi Lan’s eyes were teary when she heard Wong Man Siu’s, her mother’s ex husband’s voice.

“Hmph, I don’t really care about the headquarters. With the money from Prince Wanyen Hao, I can build ten headquarters in the mean time,” said Wong Man Siu with a cruel voice. “I just want to find out my daughter Qi Lan and my wife, Yu Siu Fung. That darn Ma Wing Sun must have taken her away while we’re busy with the fire during the chaos last time! Tell to our men, that whoever can give information, or can bring Qi Lan alive, then I will give them a lot of money as reward.”

“Master, Miss Wong is very naughty, probably she just hang around outside. Don’t be worry too much for her,” said one of the men.
Qi Lan felt sad as she heard that. Wong Man Siu always treated him nicely and she felt guilty that she ran away from him without saying anything. Spontaneously Wong Qi Lan arose from her bed and wanted to meet Wong Man Siu. Lucky that Hai Lung could guess Qi Lan’s action. Hai Lung pressed Qi Lan’s blood points to mute and paralyze her. Qi Lan starred at Hai Lung with angry eyes.

“Huh, actually I don’t really care with that bastard girl! I only need her to catch her and use her as a bait to bring the lust Yu Siu Fung and Ma Wing Sun,” said Wong Man Siu with cruel voice.

Hai Lung glad that he stopped Qi Lan to meet her ex-father just now. If he didn’t do that, then probably not only he and Qi Lan would get into trouble, but also Ma Wing Sun, Yu Siu Fung and of course other people who helped them. Hai Lung looked at Qi Lan on his corner eyes. The girl looked shocked hearing the man that she called ‘father’ for many years would say such thing about her. Her eyes became teary.

Wong Man Siu and his men ate at the house and they immediately left the hut.

Hai Lung released Qi Lan after Wong Man Siu left the hut. She said nothing and looked depressed after hearing Wong Man Siu’s word.

Early in the morning, Levi woke up from his sleep. He smelled sandalwood fragrance so close to his nose and felt something was laid on his chest. Levi realized that Li Qing was sleeping on his chest.

He smiled although he was very sleepy since knew that the girl must haven’t slept last night to take care of him. He slowly caressed Li Qing’s hair. Li Qing still slept, and Levi could hear her soft breath.

Felt something caressing her hair, Li Qing opened her eyes and woke up from her sleep.

“Levi, are you feeling better now?” asked Li Qing smiled to Levi. Levi smiled to her and nodded his head.

“Thank you for taking care of me,” said Levi and he caressed Li Qing’s hair again.

Li Qing’s face blushed since as a girl who was raised under a strict rule like her, staying in a room with a man was something improper. And last night she slept with her head laid on a man’s chest.
“Let me check your heart pulse,” said Li Qing and she examined Levi’s wrist to detect his heart pulse.

“Hey, from your heartbeat you are suppose to be totally recovered,” said Li Qing.

“Well, I feel great. Just feel so weak and sleepy,” said Levi.

“That’s strange,” said Li Qing. She didn’t want to have a prejudice, but she couldn’t help it. She thought that the snake was too coincidence to be there and bite Levi when Qi Lan came.

“Levi, how did the snake bite you yesterday?” asked Li Qing again.

“I don’t know. It was all so sudden. I was praying and closed my eyes. Suddenly I felt something cold in my hand. And before I opened my eyes, the snake had already bite me,” explained Levi.

“Hmm, so you pray and the snake bite you?” said Li Qing laughed. “It means that your God didn’t want to hear your prayer!” teased Li Qing. “Just don’t pray too much. It will make your brain dull, I guess! Your God didn’t hear your prayer anyway. Lucky that the snake’s poison didn’t kill you.”

“Li Qing, are you trying to say that the snake bite me because my God didn’t hear my prayer?” asked Levi with serious tone.

“Well, I thought so,” said Li Qing with low voice. “I just don’t understand why do you have to believe in things that you can not really understand.”

“Listen to me, even if I have to be bitten by more snakes when I’m praying, I will still pray to my God. I can’t understand Him, but I feel His presence in my soul, and that’s enough for me!” said Levi.

“Aiya, I guess I will never mentioned in front of you about praying, religion or things like that….. “ said Li Qing with low voice. “You are always angry with me when we talk about it!”

“Li Qing, I’m not angry with you!” said Levi felt guilty. “But please…I have a feeling that you always snub or insult my religion. And that makes me hurt inside.”

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to hurt your feeling. But I just angry that you have to be bitten by a snake, while you are so devoted like that. Can you imagine…the snake bite you when you’re praying!” said Li Qing again. “I will say that probably your god is a fake god!”

“Li Qing!” hissed Levi angrily. “Please don’t say things like that! I don’t want Hashem punish you because of your careless statement!” said Levi again.

[Hashem -- Literally means "The Name" since it is not allowable for the Jews to say the ineffable name of God.]

“It’s better for me to say nothing!” said Li Qing frowned. She knew that nothing in this world could make Levi angry to her besides the religion issue.

“Come on, don’t be angry while you just recovered! Let me prepare some food for you!” said Li Qing and she prepared some food to Levi.

Levi slept again after he took some food. Li Qing waited outside the tent and she drew some calligraphy on the sand killing time and waiting for Hai Lung to bring the antidote.

I thought the sleeping pill was supposed to "make Levi sleep for two days and two nights without being able to wake up even only for a few minutes." However it seems that Levi woke up early in the morning after just one night

Yup, I agree with Levi's opinion. Just because Levi was bitten by snake, it does not mean that the Lord is fake or does not care. "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it" (1 Corinthians 10:13).

Wow Rabadi you surprised me. Yes..you are right. Although it seemed that Levi's God didn't protect Levi (or for some people it seems like the God left Levi), but God's providentia can't be measured with blessings merely.

Honestly I have to tell you that some of the dialogues between Levi and Li Qing are 'real dialogues' which I often asked and answer to myself (so Andrea and "Andrea" talk to each other and make a Q&A ). As sometimes my faith is up and down, feel disapointed, etc. God's providentia is always there..although sometimes we can't see the bad things as a blessing (in present time). But mostly when we look back in the past, we will be able to know that some things which we thought to be bad things happened to us, brings good to us in later days/future.

11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD , "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29: 11

8 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,"
declares the LORD .
9 "As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Isaiah 55:8-9

So I guess the #3 lesson is :Keep the faith
