    Where one Guardian once existed
    Two shall be reborn
Two sides of the same coin
    Joined in blood and soul
To once again wield the Sword of Sun
    Fated to share one love
Destined to walk one path in life

So there are two Guardian, right? One of them must be Kevin, while the other one may be Gilbert unless ithere is another twist then it maybe Louis is the one. If Kevin is the Guardian wouldn't that make Kevin almost Gilbert's brother too? Since they are joined in blood would make them blood brother. They are destined to walk one path in life that makes they will both fall in love with Annie. Melanie have you watched A Chinese Ghost Story, you should watch that series because it appear that series have a similar twist to your story. Really good.

Hmmmmmmmm. I think that would be Wai Sun and Tin Lok, couldn't be Ka Wing.

Mel, are you going to prove me wrong, or right ? Waiting for the next update

    Hmmm.

    "Fated to share one love,
Destined to walk the same path of life."

Hmmm. You know, if you twisted it by a lot, it could be Annie and Benny.

Annie loves Louis, and Benny loves Louis in a brotherly fashion.

Benny used to stalk Annie so they walk the same paths!

    (Just fooling around!)

Chun On's death is tragic. The death scene is so gruesome.

Sorry Melanie. I know this is old news. haha. I'm only up-to-date when it comes to story about Chi Chi and Kah Wing. The others, I'm very far behind.

Default it is?!! I should start reading

Is this story like Eternal Love aka Chinese Ghost Story???? That is so cool. I guess I have to read this thread. I'm new here and I was just browsing this thread and then I got curious about this fanfiction and then I read that it was like Eternity and I got really excited coz that is my favorite series. I watched it more than 3 times already and at first it seemed really sad but you've got to read between the lines to understand the lesson and logic. I just love stories that makes you think and I think this fanfic is no excpetion. It got some philosophical angles.

This fanfic is so good, it makes me weep.

I know who the Guardian is. It's a young, handsome Japanese male called Weng.

We're almost at the 50th chapter mark! Yay! It just hit me right now that this story is sooo long! Maybe I should just post the last chapter up so I don't kill everyone with curiosity about who's going to die and who's going to live happily ever after.

I've been thinking about writing another ancient fanfic. I already have the title: The Three Swords Trilogy. It will center around three legendary swords and three equally legendary heroes who are chosen to possess them. I will probably start the trilogy when I am almost done with this fanfic. Hopefully, you all will still be interested enough to stick around to read the trilogy.

That's all for now. I will work more on chapter 49 tomorrow. See ya, everyone, and thank you for reading!

Argh! I can't believe I spent all this time replying to you guys and then the forum deleted everything when I clicked "post." Sorry, now each response will have to be abbreviated.

Cathy: Thanks for dropping by. I haven't seen Chinese Ghost Story before. I've only seen one episode on TV and then I kept missing it whenever it was showing.

Bubeng: Thanks for reading. Your guess about the Guardian is...Can't tell you! Can't tell you!

cherrie: Like I said to Bubeng... Can't tell you any spoilers! Can't tell you!

charbydis: Pssst! Charby, you're giving away my whole plot with the Annie and Benny thing. *gags charbydis*

kidd: Your comment made me laugh so hard for some reason.

picket: Who in the world is Weng? Is that even a Japanese name?

spotneck: Welcome to the story! I'm not sure about this fic being philosophical, though. Please don't expect too much from this story, because well, it's really mediocre, and I don't want to disappoint you. Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy Legendary Book as a stand alone story, regardless of whether or not it's similar to Chinese Ghost Story.

Eternality: Hi! Thanks for reading. And thanks for supporting The Three Swords Trilogy, even though it's not posted yet.

CHAPTER 49 --- MY SWEET MELODY

    Characters appearing in this chapter:
Gilbert Lam Wai Sun---Lam Yik Lun
Annie Man Chung Han---So Sui Han
    Adam Cheng Siu Chow---Emperor
Ekin Cheng Yee Kin---Yeung Lap Chun a.k.a. White Executioner
Kristy Yeung Gong Yu---Lam Suk Yu
Patrick Tam Yiu Man--- Marquis Ching Bong

    MASTER'S UNDERGROUND LAIR

Dragging Sui Han along, Lun uses his lightness kung fu to speed down the maze of dark tunnels, randomly turning left and then right, trying to lose the Master, who rapidly approaches from behind.

Spying an alcove ahead, Lun quickly shoves Sui Han into the small enclosure. Then, whirling around, he leaps up into the air and meets the Master's oncoming palms. A force field generated by the clash of internal energy ripples outward, forming invisible concentric waves, knocking back the small band of assassins trailing behind the Master.

As the Master and Lun break away from each other, both somersault twice in the air and land several paces apart. Unsheathing his sword, Lun flies forward, aiming to the right. As the Master flips to the left, he twirls his zither rapidly, before sending the slender instrument spinning through the air. The zither catapults straight toward Lun. Executing a series of backflips to avoid the zither, Lun then stabs his sword tip vertically into the ground.

Suspended above his weapon, Lun kicks the zither back to the Master. Distracting the Master for a few seconds, Lun, while still suspended in the air, bears down on this sword. The belly of the blade bends slightly from the force, before springing back into its original shape, thus catapulting Lun toward the Master again at lightening speed. Raising his sword, Lun flashes the tip briefly upward before striking down toward the Master's midsection.

In retaliation, the Master flips his zither horizontally, supporting it with his left arm. With a flick of his fingers, he plucks at the taut cords, sending a burst of internal energy forward toward his opponent.

Unable to pierce the invisible energy force generated by the zither music, Lun retreats. Sensing Lun's imminent defeat, the band of assassins surges forward, attacking Lun from all directions. Spinning vertically up toward the roof of the tunnel, Lun grabs onto a small ledge jutting out from a corner of the ceiling. Twirling his sword swiftly in a series of circles, he creates enough force to cause a shower of debris and small rocks to rain down on the assassins.

As his men scatter to avoid the cascade of rocks, the Master smirks. "Hmph, very impressive, Young Master Lam. My men outnumber you ten to one, and yet, you manage to send them running. Your father has taught you well, I see. But regardless, you won't be leaving here today alive. I cannot risk you telling others about the location of my underground lair."

Without warning, the Master throws his zither across the tunnel toward Sui Han, who is hovering by the entrance of the alcove, observing the fight between Lun and the Master. Seeing the approach of the instrument, Sui Han leaps aside, narrowly avoiding injury.

"Sui Han!" Lun calls out in alarm.

Because of those few seconds of distraction, Lun suffers a blow on the shoulder from the Master. Losing his grip on the ledge, Lun crashes down, suffering serious internal injury.

Landing onto the hard ground, Lun looks up just in time to see the Master flying toward him rapidly. Suddenly, a rain of silver needles shoot forward, forcing the Master to twist sideways.

Running out from the alcove, Sui Han drags Lun's heavy weight up and totters unsteadily with him toward the small alcove. "Hurry, First Young Master!"

From behind, the Master flies forward again, with arms outstretched. Glancing back, Lun thrusts his sword through the air, temporarily holding back his opponent. Pushing Sui Han into the alcove first, he flies in after her. From within the alcove, he raises his arms toward the roof, using his internal energy to send a cascade of small boulders to rain down on the entrance, closing off the opening of the small alcove.

Spitting out a mouthful of blood, Lun clutches at his chest as a searing pain rips through his body, nearly rendering him unconscious. Dropping to his knees, he blinks rapidly to clear his vision.

"First Young Master!" Sui Han rushes to his side, trying to catch him before he collapses to the ground.

However, Lun's weight is too heavy for her, and she falls on top of him as he crashes onto his back.

"First Young Master! First Young Master!" Sui Han shakes his shoulders, as she scrambles to crouch beside him.

"Ugh!" Lun gasps as another sharp arrow of pain tears through him. Staring up at Sui Han's blurry image, he reaches up, his hand grazing her cheek. "Sui Han…" He mutters. "I think that wall of rocks will hold them back for a while, but they'll find a way to knock it down soon."

Nodding in understanding, Sui Han drags Lun over to the far end of the alcove. "You rest for a while, First Young Master."

Leaning tiredly against the wall, Lun shakes his head. "There's no time to rest. I'm going to meditate. Hopefully, I'll recover enough internal energy by the time they break through the alcove opening." Holding her hand, he looks earnestly at her. "Sui Han, when they break down that wall, I want you to run while I distract them."

His words seem to chip away at the wall she carefully built around her heart. Looking away quickly, she slips her hand out of his grasp. "First Young Master, I'm not worth dying for," she murmurs. Glancing back at him, she notices that he has fallen fast asleep from exhaustion despite his intention to meditate. Staring at his sleeping face for one long minute, Sui Han finally stands up and gives him one last look. "But for saying those words, you shall have my gratitude and friendship for life. Thank you, First Young Master." She whispers solemnly.

    **********

Meanwhile, outside the alcove, the Master leaps toward the pile of small boulders closing off the entrance. As his palms contact the surface of the wall of tumbled rocks, the wall rumbles and shifts slightly. However, the pile of granite remains stubbornly intact. Somersaulting backward, he lands a few paces away. Cultivating his internal energy, he prepares to leap through the air toward the wall once more but is interrupted as one of his followers run up to him.

Kneeling before the Master, the assassin clasps his hands together in a gesture of respect. "Master, we have found the location of the Sword of Sun."

This bit of news causes the Master to swivel around rapidly. "The Sword of Sun?!" As the information sinks in, his lips slowly curl upward. A gurgle escapes from his mouth until the sound becomes a full cackle. "Hahaha! Finally! After all these years, the Sword of Sun shall be mine!" He roars with glee, his eyes glittering maniacally behind the mask. Finally, he calms down. "Where is it?"

"Our spies report hearing about the Sword of Sun in a place called Green Python Valley. It appears to be kept in a secluded cave, guarded by an elderly couple." The assassin replies. "Master, would you like us to go fetch the sword for you?"

Raising his hand, the Master interrupts his follower. "There is no need. I will go myself. Nothing can stop me from possessing that sword." Glancing back at the alcove, he jerks his head at the wall. "Find a way to break down that wall. When I come back, I want to find two dead bodies." Staring steadily at the assassins, he adds in a deceptively soft voice, "Don't disappoint me."

With those words, the Master flips into the air, his figure rapidly disappearing from sight.

    WEST LAKE PROVINCE

    Gong! Gong! Gong!

The crash of the cymbal reverberates loudly down the dark alley as a lone man dressed in tidy, but simple, robes slowly calls out the hour of night. "Three hours past midnight! Three hours past midnight!"

    Gong! Gong! Gong!

The cymbal crashes again as the man continues his path down the deserted street. As the echo of the cymbal fades into the distance, silence takes over, blanketing the street like a heavy curtain. Rows of shops and homes neatly line the road on both sides, their entrances boarded up securely for the night. Slivers of moonlight peak through the dark veil of clouds, bouncing off the wooden houses and casting pale shadows onto the gray cobblestone road. A flock of pigeon clusters around some breadcrumbs at one corner of the street, pecking wildly, cooing as they enjoy their meal.

From within the darkness, two horses burst onto the path, their hooves pounding on the ground urgently, dispersing the pigeons, which frantically flutter away. Two riders, one young and handsome, the other more mature and distinguished, gallop to a stop in front of an inn grandly decorated with red lanterns. The inn's lacquer-trimmed eaves, double doors, and windowpanes glisten in the moonlight.

"Heel! Heel!" The young man commands his black stallion, pulling on the reins expertly.

Rearing up slightly on his hind legs, the horse neighs, his snout quivering as he bares his teeth, his hooves dancing briefly on the cobblestone. Agilely leaping down from the steed, the young man leads the animal toward the side of the inn and secures the reins to a thick pillar.

Walking back toward the older man still astride the second stallion, the young man clasps his hands together in a gesture of respect and bows his head. "Your Majesty, we have arrived at the Red Lantern Inn. General Law and his son will be meeting up with us here in the morning."

Nodding, the Emperor, distinguished in a long, dark blue robe, glances toward the inn's entrance. "Then we shall rest here for the remainder of the night." Alighting from the stallion, the Emperor hands the reins over to the young man. "Marquis Ching, it's best to refer to me as Uncle from here on. I am here to personally see who is the mastermind behind the multiple assassination attempts on my loyal and prominent court officials, and I do not want to attract unwanted attention."

"Yes, Uncle." The young Marquis murmurs. Tying the Emperor's white steed next to his black one, Marquis Ching Bong leads the way into the Red Lantern Inn.

    RED LANTERN INN

A burst of warmth envelops them as the gleaming black lacquer doors of the inn swing open to reveal a spacious lobby furnished with burgundy lacquer round tables polished so meticulously that their surfaces glisten like mirrors. Silken panels hand-painted with scenes of majestic mountains, lofty clouds, heavenly cranes, fair maidens, and handsome scholars grace the lobby, strategically placed to allow guests at each table privacy from others. Paper-thin red lanterns dangle from the ceiling, a single candle flickering from within each lantern, its glowing flame hazy through the lacy covering of the lantern, flooding the room with a dreamy, romantic light.

Despite the late hour, a few patrons still linger at the tables, sipping warm wine, conversing in hushed tones. The innkeeper, spotting two well-dressed guests hovering near the entrance, hurriedly rushes forward.

Arriving in front of the newcomers, the elderly innkeeper bows respectfully. "May I be of service to you, Masters?"

"Yes, we would like two deluxe rooms, the best you have in this inn." Ching Bong steps forward and discreetly drops a gold ingot into the innkeeper's hand.

Staring at the ingot greedily, the innkeeper could practically feel the drool pool in his mouth. He nearly trips over himself trying to please these two obviously wealthy guests. "Certainly! Certainly, Masters! We are the best inn in West Lake Province! Why, our rooms are fit for an emperor!" He boasts proudly with a sweeping gesture of his hand to indicate the grandeur of Red Lantern Inn.

The Emperor grimaces slightly at the elderly innkeeper's overly enthusiastic response to the gold ingot.

Beside the Emperor, Marquis Ching, clears his throat awkwardly. "Erm…yes. We can see that this is indeed an excellent inn. My uncle and I are very tired from traveling and would like to be shown to our rooms as soon as possible."

"Haha. Yes, yes, of course! Please come this way, Masters!" The innkeeper stutters excitedly. Stepping to one side, the old man bows respectfully, extending his arm toward the long winding staircase.

As Ching Bong and the Emperor follow the innkeeper up the stairs to their rooms, the door to the room immediately below the staircase opens. A tall man dressed completely in white walks out. Going to the room adjacent to his, Lap Chun knocks lightly on Suk Yu's door.

"Miss Suk Yu? Miss Suk Yu?" Frowning slightly, he listens closely. He thought he heard movement and then the sound of her door opening just a minute ago. Therefore, he wants to check on her to make sure she is all right. "Miss Suk Yu?" Lap Chun knocks more firmly this time.

Silence greets him from the other side of the room. Concerned, he gently pushes at Suk Yu's door. As the door swings open, Lap Chun notes the neatly made bed and the untouched dinner on the table. "Where could she be?" He mutters irritably to himself, more out of worry than anger. "She is blind and wandering around alone."

Closing the door swiftly, Lap Chun hurries down the corridor toward the courtyard at the rear of the Red Lantern Inn, hoping to find Suk Yu there.

    MEANWHILE…
    MARQUIS CHING BONG'S INN ROOM

Ching Bong leans over the washbasin beside the bed, splashing water onto his face. Droplets of water spill onto the basin stand before trickling onto the floor in a steady stream. A few drops land onto his travel sack, which lies near the edge of the bed.

Gasping anxiously, Bong quickly lurches forward, pushing the sack away from the droplets of moisture. Worriedly, he rips open the travel bundle, searching frantically for something buried under layers of protective cloth. Finally, he grabs onto a long, slim object wrapped in three layers of soft cloth. With heart pounding in concern, he gently and carefully peels apart the layers of cloth to reveal a scroll. Carefully opening the scroll, he examines the painting of a young woman, her long flowing gown of pure white fluttering softly around her slim form. Delicately arched eyebrows frame large, dewy eyes. A delicate, straight nose and bowed lips complete the picture of grace and beauty. With head slightly tilted, she holds a jade green flute, poised near her lips, as if preparing to play a melody.

As the young marquis stares at the painting, his expression suddenly changes from frantic worry to wistful sadness. For a long moment, he holds the scroll close to his heart, his fingers tracing the delicate curve of the woman's cheek. Visions of the young lady, her smile reserved and demure, dance across his mind.

Closing his eyes briefly, he allows himself to remember. "Suk Yu…" He whispers quietly, his tone tinged with bittersweet regret.

Looking at the painting in his hands, he remembers the day he presented the jade flute to her as a surprise birthday gift. In his mind, he could see the delight in her eyes and hear her laughter right before she placed the flute to her lips. A heavenly melody floated toward him as she tried out her new present. Everyday from then on, he would wake up longing to hear that sweet tune, to bask in the warm glow of love she showered on him. He promised her to take care of her for as long as he lived, to never leave her.

She was his childhood sweetheart, his true love. But he had another love far more important and addictive than she. Ambition. For as long as he could remember, Bong craved for the power that a political position could bring him. He knew he was never meant to be an ordinary citizen. He was destined to become a strong and influential political figure.

Unfortunately, this goal could not be accomplished easily, as it required years to procure even the most insignificant of political positions through the imperial examinations. And patience had never been one of his strong points.

Therefore, when the Royal Duke's only daughter fell in love with him, he grabbed at the opportunity. He sacrificed his love for Lam Suk Yu, ruthlessly and deliberately turning his back on her, closing his heart to the unshed tears shimmering in her disappointed eyes. He forced his heart to forget her and wooed the Duke's sickly and plain daughter relentlessly, winning her heart and her hand in marriage easily.

Within two short years, Ching Bong transformed from an ordinary citizen into the Royal Duke's son-in-law, the Emperor's nephew-in-law. Eventually, he was promoted to Marquis for his dedication and service to his country. He had made a name for himself and had finally attained the power and glory he craved. He was satisfied, even content.

But every so often, in the quiet of night as he lay beside a woman he did not love, he would hear the tinkling of Suk Yu's laughter, feel her soft curves in his arms. Sometimes, he could even almost imagine hearing the flute melody she played only for him. Perhaps it was heaven's way of punishing him for treating Suk Yu so cruelly, for he could not forget her and spent the past two years tortured with her image embedded firmly in his heart and mind.

Now, as he passes through West Lake Province, which is located near the city of Lam On, Suk Yu's hometown, he misses her more than ever. Sighing, Bong meticulously rolls up the painting, carefully wrapping the layers of cloth over it before placing it back into his travel bundle.

Walking over to the window overlooking the lush gardens below, he pushes open the shutters, allowing a cool breeze to drift in. Shivering a little from the chilly wind but nonetheless enjoying the brisk air, he proceeds to disrobe in preparation for bed. From the open window, a soft, sad melody floats through the air, each note pulling at his heartstrings.

His fingers halt at his waist sash, as he stands as still as a statue, listening, his heart pounding furiously against his rib cage. "Suk Yu…" He whispers in disbelief. "That's the melody Suk Yu plays every time she is sad!"

Suddenly forgetting that he is already a married man, he rushes out of his inn room, dashing down the stairs. He reaches the rear gardens in record time, only to come to a halting stop the minute he spots a familiar slender, solitary figure standing near a grove of violets, her back facing him. The lilting melody drifts from the jade flute in her hands, the delicate notes weaving their way across the inn's gardens, riding gently along with the wind.

For the next few minutes, the gardens fill with a music so sad that the flowers seem to weep, their petals half closed with dewdrops of moisture clinging to the petals like tears. Finally, the melody fades, as the wind picks up, roaring in grief.

Lowering her flute, Suk Yu remains still for a moment, enjoying the fragrance of the blooms around her, listening to the low howl of the wind. Sighing softly, she turns and makes her way back toward her room, her hand trailing on the wooden railings along the garden path to keep her balance.

As she passes Ching Bong, she stares right through him, her sightless eyes unaware of his presence. Shifting slightly to avoid tripping her, Bong gaps at Suk Yu in disbelief, realizing that she is blind. Speechless with shock, he remains rooted to the spot.

Hearing the scratching of boots against the stone path, Suk Yu stops and looks toward the noise. "Oh, I'm sorry. I do not realize I have company."

Receiving no response from the shocked Bong, Suk Yu assumes that this person must not like conversing with strangers at this time of night. Smiling, she bows slightly to him and continues on her way.

Bong turns and watches her silently as she disappears through the entrance of the inn. For a long moment, he stands there, mesmerized and numb from seeing her after two long years and from the shock of finding her blind. Finally, he takes in a deep breath and starts toward his room, his mind still whirling.

As Bong enters the inn, another figure, tall and robed in white, emerges from behind a wide pillar at the east end of the gardens. Flipping his fan open, Lap Chun calmly fans himself, his eyes narrowed suspiciously as he stares after Ching Bong.

    CHAPTER 50 --- LITTLE BROTHER?

    Characters appearing in this chapter:
    Gigi Lai Chi---Lam Chi Chi
Kevin Cheng Ka Wing---Cheng Sai Chung

    GREEN PYTHON VALLEY

The large, colorful leaves on the tall oaks and maples rattle noisily as a night chill sweeps across the silent valley. A few leaves ride along with the wind, creating a bright current of yellows, oranges, and reds, the myriad of colors twirling madly around the campfire, engaged in a dance with the flickering flames and bright embers.

Two figures, one tall with broad shoulders, the other petite with delicate features, crouch near the fire. The smaller figure holds a long sword, its thin blade glinting dangerously in the orange glow of heat. Small sparks spew and flutter briefly in the air before landing onto the damp earth every time the sword strikes against the metal chain links around the two figures' ankles.

"Omph! Omph!" Chi Chi grunts as she hammers at the sturdy chain linking her ankle to Sai Chung's.

"Little Brother?" Sai Chung whispers, poking his finger at Chi Chi's shoulder.

"Little Brother?" He calls again when she continues to ignore him.

"Omph! Omph!" Chi Chi continues to bang at the chain with her sword.

"Little Brother?" Sai Chung mumbles, this time yanking at her sleeve urgently.

"Shh!" Chi Chi hushes him, brushing away his hand. "I'm busy, Big Brother Sai Chung!"

Without glancing at Sai Chung, she grits her teeth and whacks at the chain with all her might.

    Clink!

The sword suddenly breaks into two pieces, and yet the thick links on the chain remain stubbornly intact.

For one shocked minute, Chi Chi stares at the jagged edge of the broken sword. Her eyes widen, nearly bulging in disbelief. "Heeeeee!" Chi Chi screams in frustration. "I can't believe this lousy chain is tougher than my sword!"

Her face beginning to fold into a pout, she swings around toward Sai Chung and scowls at him. "What do we do now, Big Brother Sai Chung?! We're stuck together forever!"

Lifting her chained hand up, she shakes her arm back and forth, causing Sai Chung's arm, which is attached to hers at the wrist, to wiggle, also.

"Umm… Ahem…" Sai Chung points at something behind her. "Little Brother, I think we should move…"

Frowning with impatience, Chi Chi swivels around and squints her eyes, trying to see through the thick foliage. "What? I don't see anything, except for lots of tall trees."

Just as she finishes her statement, Chi Chi hears a soft hissing sound coming from somewhere near her feet. Freezing at the noise, she darts her eyes back and forth nervously, searching the forest ground for the source of the sound. From the corner of her eyes, she notices a glint of silvery scales. The scales shift synchronously, sliding sinuously along the dirt path, slithering closer and closer toward her.

    Hiss! Hiss!

Realizing the imminent approach of the snake, Chi Chi's eyes widen with fear. "It's…it's…it's a snake!" She whispers shakily, turning toward Sai Chung.

"Just stay calm. Don’t move, Little Brother, or the snake will attack." Sai Chung cautions Chi Chi one second too late.

Chi Chi, too frightened to think rationally and heed Sai Chung's advice, leaps at him, her arms outstretched, her eyes clenched together tightly. "Big Brother Sai Chung! Help me!" She hollers, horrifically imagining herself being consumed alive by huge, flesh-eating serpents.

As she hurtles into Sai Chung forcefully, thus catching him by surprise and knocking him backward onto the ground, the snake hisses loudly, disturbed by the commotion. In defense, the reptile launches itself into the air, its long, thin tongue protruding and retracting rapidly.

"Eeeeee!" Chi Chi screams, her body crushing Sai Chung underneath, her arms clutching his neck in a death grip. "Eeeee!" She lets out another ear-piercing yell, as she buries her face against his chest, using so much force that Sai Chung feels as if she is trying to drill a hole into his chest with her head.

As the snake lurches forward, aiming for Chi Chi's leg, Sai Chung lifts his head up and quickly looks around for a weapon. Spotting the jagged piece of sword nearby, he reaches for the blade. Sandwiching the broken tip between his right index and middle fingers, he flicks his wrist smoothly, sending the piece of metal shooting across the air. As the sword tip travels at lightening speed, the campfire dies off instantly in the sudden whoosh of air. The blade drives into the body of the serpent, nailing the reptile against a large tree trunk in one clean move.

"Am I dead yet? Am I dead yet?!" Chi Chi asks in a wobbly voice, her face still smashed against Sai Chung's chest.

"You're fine, now, Little Brother. You're fine now." Lying under Chi Chi, Sai Chung pats Chi Chi on the shoulder reassuringly.

"Huh?" Chi Chi mutters in confusion, finally lifting her head to peer into Sai Chung's eyes.

"The snake's dead now. You're fine." He repeats, an amused smile tugging at the corner of his lips as he remembers her frantic reaction earlier.

"Dead?" Chi Chi inquires in shock. "But how?" Peeking around tentatively, she glances behind her.

Her jaw drops in surprise as she stares at the remains of the serpent, its long body dangling limply, its triangular head crushed by the sword tip embedded in the reptile's brains and tacking the snake against the tree trunk.

"Wah!" Chi Chi mumbles impressively. Turning her luminous eyes toward Sai Chung, she whispers in awe. "Where did you learn how to aim like that?"

Shrugging self-consciously, Sai Chung tries to brush off the matter. "I grew up in a fishing village. I used to gather bamboo stalks and sharpen the tips. Then I would catch fish by using these bamboo spears."

"But you managed to put out the fire, too!" Chi Chi points at the few embers still glowing from the banked campfire. "I remember my eldest brother telling me that it takes considerable internal energy to accomplish that!"

"Ha…" Sai Chung chuckles nervously. "You must be mistaken. I'm just a village boy, Little Brother. Where would I attain that kind of internal energy?"

"No!" Chi Chi insists stubbornly. "I saw my eldest brother do the same thing you just did! He was practicing his martial arts once when he sent his sword flying across the air, putting out a nearby campfire. My father and mother say that it takes at least ten years of cultivated internal energy to be able to put out fire with an energy wave. I know what I am talking about!" Chi Chi adds defensively before Sai Chung could question her martial arts fund of knowledge.

Sai Chung pats her awkwardly on the shoulder again, trying to calm her. "Little Brother, I really don't know any martial arts. You should know! If I knew martial arts, I would not be defenseless against those bandits!"

"But the fire…" Chi Chi frowns.

"I have acquired fairly impressive strength from all those years of farming and manual labor. That probably explains why I am able to throw that sword tip with enough force to put out the fire." Sai Chung rationalizes.

Silently pondering his words, Chi Chi sticks out her lower lip unconsciously into a pout. "I guess that makes sense, too…"

"Why don't we get some water at that nearby lake?" Sai Chung interrupts Chi Chi's thoughts, trying to change the subject. "You must be thirsty after all that excitement."

His words jolt Chi Chi out of her reverie. Suddenly realizing that she is lying intimately on top of him, she hurriedly scrambles off, blushing furiously. "Err…sure."

Uncomfortable and embarrassed, she struggles to her feet, attempting to take a step away from him. Forgetting that she is still chained to him, she lurches forward the minute she takes a step, causing both to topple once again to the ground.

"Omph!" Chi Chi mutters as she lands onto Sai Chung. Staring briefly into his eyes, she quickly turns her head away. "Sorry, Big Brother Sai Chung." She mumbles.

"Let me help you up, Little Brother." Sai Chung offers, reaching forward to support her weight.

"No, I'm fine!" Chi Chi shies away rapidly. With eyes averted, she stands up with more care this time.

As both waddle awkwardly toward the lake, Sai Chung points at the fresh body of water cheerfully. "Little Brother! Let's take a dip in the lake and wash off this grime!"

With eyes widened in alarm, Chi Chi scowls at him. "No! No! No!"

Bewildered, Sai Chung gawks at her strong reaction. "Why not? We're dusty. Look!" He points at Chi Chi's cheek. "You have dirt streaks on your cheek!"

Reaching upward to brush at her cheek carelessly and thus smearing more dirt across her face, Chi Chi purses her lips stubbornly like a wayward child. "No! I won't take a bath!"

Crouching down at the bank of the lake to dip his hand into the cool water, Sai Chung frowns. "Why not? I hate to tell you this, Little Brother, but we are beginning to emit unpleasant smells."

Highly offended by his comment, Chi Chi forms an "O" with her mouth, gaping at Sai Chung. "Well!" She gasps. "Well!" She repeats, for lack of anything better to say.

Insulted, she plops down on the grassy bank and sulks.

Innocently looking at her, Sai Chung adds magnanimously. "Little Brother, if it makes you feel any better, I smell just as bad as you do. That's why we should take a bath in the lake."

"Hmph!" Chi Chi huffs, turning away from him to pout into the darkness. After a few minutes of silence, she hears the shuffling of boots and the ruffling of clothes. Curious, she peeks over toward the noise. "Eeeeek!" She shouts in alarm. Quickly she squeezes her eyes shut, her cheeks burning a crimson color. "What are you doing?" She squeaks.

In the process of disrobing, Sai Chung pauses to glance at Chi Chi strangely. "I feel sticky and uncomfortable. I'm going to wash in the lake."

With her eyes still closed, Chi Chi hollers at him, her voice rising with each word. "You can't! We're stuck to each other with these chains! That means I can't leave while you wash!"

Blinking uncomprehendingly, Sai Chung looks around confused. "Why do you have to leave while I wash? We're both men." Peeling off his dirt-stained robe, he proceeds to quietly wade into the pool, nearly sighing in pleasure as the cool water gently laps against his waist.

"Never mind what the reason is!" Chi Chi snaps at him, too panicky to hear the sound of waves as Sai Chung enters the water. "Just keep your gown on!"

Already half submerged under the water, Sai Chung clears his throat. "But I can't clean myself with my gown still on, Little Brother. Why don't you come in, too? Look! The water is really cool and soothing!" He flicks a few drops of water toward Chi Chi's direction, hoping to persuade her to join him.

As the cool spray of water hits her face, Chi Chi nearly jumps up in surprise. Tentatively opening one eye, she looks toward the direction of the spray. Seeing just darkness, she begins to breathe a sigh of relief.

Just at that moment, Sai Chung emerges from under the surface of the lake and pokes his face right in front of Chi Chi's. "Little Brother!" He grins at her happily, droplets of moisture trickling down his face, continuing their way down toward his broad chest and trim waist.

Shocked beyond words, Chi Chi freezes, as she goggles at the naked man before her. "Eeeeeeee!"

Scrambling up, she tries to run away, only to be tugged backward by the chain. Losing her balance, she wobbles precariously near the edge of the lake before toppling in.

"Little Brother!" Sai Chung calls out in alarm. Reaching for her, he tries to hold her upright, dodging his head as best as he could to avoid her flailing arms. "Hold on, Little Brother! It's a very shallow lake. You can stand up in it. See? See?"

As her feet touch the rocky bottom of the lake, Chi Chi calms down enough to open her eyes. Gulping in large breaths of air, she chokes and coughs. Then, she happens to glance at Sai Chung's naked torso again and promptly faints.

"Little Brother! Little Brother!" Sai Chung shakes Chi Chi's shoulders, hoping to rouse her.

Deciding to loosen her gown to help her breathe more easily, he keeps one arm around her shoulders, while the other hand reaches down under the water's surface to undo the knot of her waist sash. As the layers of her outer gown peel away, the dark clouds above separate to reveal the silvery globe of the moon, its reflection rippling brightly on the water's surface. The rays add a pearly glow to Chi Chi's porcelain complexion, shining through the thin, wet undergarment.

Halting, his hand poised a few inches above her, Sai Chung stares in disbelief. Suddenly realizing that his "Little Brother" is a young woman, he nearly drops Chi Chi. Swallowing nervously, he glances around as if expecting a whole village of people to leap out from the darkness, jabbing their fingers at him accusingly. Quickly wrapping her outer gown around her tightly, he carries Chi Chi out of the water. Laying her gently on the damp earth, he swiftly ties her waist sash into a double knot, his fingers fumbling anxiously.

"Oh boy… Oh boy… This is not good. When she wakes up, she will kill me." He mutters, attempting to look everywhere but at the unconscious woman in front of him. "No wonder she looks so pretty and delicate all the time! And I thought she was just another one of those pampered pretty boys!" Whacking himself on the side of the head, he mumbles, "You are so stupid to have not realized that your Little Brother is a young woman disguised as a man!" Settling down on the ground next to Chi Chi, he ponders about what to do.

After a few minutes, Chi Chi begins to groan. Wrinkling her nose, she flutters her eyelids as she regains consciousness.

Forgetting about his dilemma, Sai Chung leans over her in concern. "Little Brother? How are you feeling?"

Opening her eyes, she immediately sees his naked form. "Eeeee!" Chi Chi cries out in alarm. Popping up, she knocks her forehead against his. "Ouch!" Scooting away from him, she covers her eyes with her hand. "You're naked!"

Glancing down at himself, Sai Chung blushes. "Oops, sorry, Little Brother." Awkwardly struggling into his robe with one hand, he finally announces, "All right, I'm decent."

Cautiously fanning her fingers apart, Chi Chi peaks through the cracks and breathes a sigh of relief upon seeing him fully clothed. As relief settles in, anger quickly follows, "Hmph!" She huffs indignantly. "I forbid you to bathe in front of me! I don't care if we're both men and stinky!"

So she doesn't realize that I know she's a woman! Sai Chung thinks to himself in relief. "All right, Little Brother, I promise I won't do it again." He sends her a winsome smile.

"Hmph!" She glares at him suspiciously and pouts. As he continues to smile indulgently at her, she decides to ignore him. Chi Chi plops down onto her back, still disgruntled. "I'm going to sleep now!" With that announcement, she closes her eyes and falls almost immediately into an exhausted slumber.

Sitting beside her, Sai Chung quietly watches her, noting the gentle curl of her eyelashes, the rosebud mouth still puckered into a pout. Suddenly, the world seems like a brighter place for some unknown reason. Grinning happily, he stretches out beside Chi Chi, glancing up at the shiny moon and twinkling stars.

    ONE HOUR LATER…

The moon has receded back behind the veil of dark clouds, leaving the forest in complete darkness. A chilly breeze sweeps across the land, rustling the trees and disturbing the still waters of the lake. A cricket leaps around near the grassy patch of earth by the bank, its high pitched calls echoing loudly in the stillness of the night.

Turning slightly onto her side, Chi Chi curls up into a ball, crossing her arms to keep away the chill. As the chains around her wrist and ankle rattle softly, a dark shadow looms over her sleeping form. Silently, a hand reaches forward to clasp around the metal links of the chain. Within seconds, a thin trail of smoke rises from the place where the hand contacts the chain. A surge of internal energy sears through the metal, melting the links immediately. As the chain breaks apart, the same hand reaches for the leg chains and repeats the same procedure.

Deep in sleep, Chi Chi continues to dream of roast chicken and sticky rice pudding, unaware that the chains have melted away…

It's ok if u make Ka Wing and Sui Han be the two guardians of the swords, but don't pair them up. I want Ka Wing to pair up with Chi Chi, and only Chi Chi.

Btw, I don't think Ka Wing is the guardian of the sword. If he is, the sword will vibrate and glow when he is near it, not after he has left the house.

CHAPTER 51 --- ROMANCE OF THE SEER AND GUARDIAN

    Characters appearing in this chapter:
Annie Man Chung Han---So Sui Han
Gilbert Lam Wai Sun---Lam Yik Lun
Steve Ma Jing Tao---Leung Cheuk Fu a.k.a. Blue Executioner

The weak light of dawn peaks through the thin wisps of clouds, coloring the sky with multi-hued streaks of gold, pink, and orange. Tiny dust motes dance merrily in the pale sunlight as hummingbirds flitter from blossom to blossom, their wings beating rapidly. As the forest comes to life, tiny animals emerge, filling the woodland with the sounds of nature.

At the far corner of the forest, two chipmunks chatter noisily, grabbing acorns scattered about the ground. A gust of wind sweeps by, rustling the leaves and sending a few more acorns crashing to the ground. One acorn hits one of the chipmunks on the head before bouncing to the ground, thus causing the disgruntled animal to squeal angrily before scurrying away. Rushing after its mate, the other chipmunk follows, carrying a small acorn between its furry paws.

A simple straw hut stands under the shade of maple trees. A young woman, robed in a long pale pink gown with frosted lace, stands near the partially opened window, peering wondrously out at nature's beauty. The soft morning light gives her complexion a radiant glow, accentuating her youth and delicate beauty. A gentle breeze drifts through the window, ruffling her long black tresses.

Reaching out the window, she attempts to touch the delicate wings of a butterfly. As the creature flutters away, the young woman laughs softly, her eyes twinkling with happiness. Turning away from the window, her eyes settle curiously on the two swords lying side by side on a nearby table. The Sword of Sun glows a fiery red in the light of dawn, a halo of energy surrounding its steel blade, the rubies shimmering brightly at the sword hilt. Beside it, the Sword of Moon gleams, the cool sapphires sparkling at the hilt, its silvery blue glow complementing the fiery heat of the Sword of Sun.

Pursing her lips, the young woman reaches out and pokes a finger at the Sword of Moon. Her fingers tingle from contact with the cool blade, her eyes widening in wonder at the steely blue glow.

A tall young man, robed completely in white, his handsome features arranged into a smile, silently approaches the young woman from behind, wrapping his arms loosely around her slim waist. Bending down slightly, he rests his chin on her shoulder, turning his face toward the curve of her neck.

Mumbling into her neck, he smiles contentedly. "Good morning, Ching Ching."

Abandoning her exploration of the Sword of Moon, Ching Ching turns into his arms, snuggling against his chest. "Big Brother! Why are you awake so early?" She asks innocently, her large eyes staring up at him questioningly.

Tightening his arms around her, the young man laughs. "I am awake because I couldn't find you beside me." Leaning down, he bumps his forehead gently against hers. "Why do you always wake up so early each morning, Ching Ching? It's barely dawn."

Breaking away from him, she wanders over to the window and pushes the shutters completely open. She gestures excitedly at the two butterflies hovering outside the hut, their multi-hued wings fluttering gracefully against the forest's backdrop of deep green. "Look, Big Brother! Aren't they beautiful?"

"Yes, they are very beautiful." Sit Tin Pang smiles indulgently at her, his eyes on her rather than on the pair of butterflies.

Incredibly happy, Ching Ching flings open the hinged door of the simple shack and dashes out barefooted. Joyously, she chases after the butterflies, her hands reaching up toward the sky, as she spins and laughs merrily. The silver laced hem of her gown flutters gently in the soft breeze, swirling around her slender ankles.

"Big Brother!" She gasps breathlessly, glancing playfully in his direction as he leans casually against the entrance of the hut with his arms crossed over his chest. "I wish I were a butterfly!"

"And why is that?" He chuckles at her gleeful expression.

"Because I want to fly free like them! I want to glide across the heavens, dance amongst the fluffy clouds, and be the first to bask in the golden rays of dawn!" She replies simply.

Pausing, she observes the pair of butterflies, one with wings of delicate pink, the other with spots of deep gold speckled against a dark background. The two creatures hover over a single red rose for one brief second, dipping up and down midair, engaged in their own private dance. Then, in the next second, the gold speckled butterfly flutters away, leaving behind the one with the softer pink wings.

Suddenly sad, Ching Ching stops twirling, her shoulders drooping. She frowns slightly as she stares intently at the lone butterfly left behind.

Sensing a change in her mood, Tin Pang walks over to her, placing his hands on her shoulders. Turning her toward him, he asks with concern, "What's wrong, Ching Ching? Did you hurt yourself?" Lifting her chin gently with his finger, he stares into her eyes, trying to find the source of her unhappiness.

She raises her eyes to him, her expression forlorn. Pointing with childlike innocence toward the lone butterfly still hovering over the ruby red petals of the rose, she whispers sadly, "The other butterfly flew off and left the pink one all alone. They were once a pair, but now only one remains." A single teardrop trickles down her cheek.

"Silly girl," Tin Pang gently chides her. Using the pads of his thumbs to rub away her tears, he leans forward and kisses her forehead. "They are just insects and do not have any emotions. They come and go as they please."

Shaking her head swiftly from side to side, Ching Ching objects adamantly. "No! They are a pair! I know it! I see them fluttering together every morning! But now they have separated…" She finishes with a sob.

Sighing, the young man shifts her closer toward him and envelops her in his warm embrace. Stroking his hands up and down her back soothingly, he tries to calm her. "It's all right, sweetheart." He murmurs into her hair. "Maybe the other one will come back soon."

Burying her face against his chest, Ching Ching rubs her cheek against his gown. Throwing her arms tightly around him with urgency, she cries, "Big Brother! Will you leave me one day, too?"

Hesitating at her words, he stares off into the distance, lost in his thoughts. Finally, after several seconds, he answers her. "Of course, I won't leave you. You'll always be in my heart."

"Promise?" Ching Ching lifts her face toward him, trust and love shining in her large eyes.

Forcing a smile, Tin Pang strokes her lustrous black locks, his fingers lingering at her cheek. "I promise."

"Then you'll stay with me here forever?" Ching Ching looks at him hopefully.

"Of course, I will." He reassures her, tightening his arms around her. However, he avoids her eyes, as he looks off to the side, his expression uneasy.

"I don't want to be alone ever again!" She exclaims worriedly.

"You won't be alone, sweetheart." He soothes her. "I promise you."

Satisfied with his words, she snuggles against him, cheerful once again. "Look, Big Brother." She calls to him softly, pointing at the myriad of colors swirling against the pearly gray horizon. "Isn't the sunrise beautiful?"

"Yes, it is." He agrees, his hands playing with the soft tendrils of her hair near her earlobes.

With sudden inspiration, Ching Ching pulls at Tin Pang's hands excitedly, succeeding at dragging him a few steps forward. "Let's go, Big Brother!"

He laughs at her sudden exuberance. "Go where, Ching Ching?" He asks, smiling at her contagious enthusiasm.

"Let's go up to the mountains and watch the sunrise!" She exclaims happily. Letting go of his hands, she runs forward. A few paces away, she twirls around and faces him, her expression mischievous. "I'll race you, Big Brother!"

With that challenge, she whirls around and races through the forest, tearing past the trees and groves of fragrant flowers, her laughter echoing through the air. "Hurry, Big Brother! You're losing!"

Amused by her gloating tone, Tin Pang somersaults into the air. With his booted feet, he lightly taps against a tree trunk before springing forward. Executing several cartwheels mid air, he rapidly closes the distance. Within seconds, he flips over Ching Ching's head and lands in front of her.

Surprised at his sudden appearance in front of her despite her few minutes head start, Ching Ching gasps and stops in her tracks. Propelled forward by momentum, she tumbles straight into his arms. As she crashes forward, Tin Pang scoops her up into his arms and swings her round and round.

Circling his neck tightly with her arms, she shrieks, half in fright and half in excitement. "Ahhhh! Big Brother! Put me down!"

Chuckling, Tin Pang finally settles her down on the ground. "Had enough, you little imp?"

As her feet touch the ground, she whirls on him. "Not fair, Big Brother!" She pouts, pushing at his chest gently. "You can't use your lightness kung fu! I don't know any martial arts skills, but you do! I'll lose for sure then!"

Catching hold of her hands, he draws her close. "If you like, I can teach you my skills. Then you'll be able to flutter through the air like those butterflies." Brushing her bangs gently, he cups his palm against her cheek, his thumb stroking the velvety softness of her skin. "And you would be able to protect yourself against the villagers if they chase after you again."

"Really? You would really teach me your martial arts?" She asks, thrilled.

"Of course." He smiles at her indulgently.

Immensely pleased with the idea, she drags him by the hand, racing back to the straw hut. "Then let's go! I want to start my lessons immediately!"

Laughing heartily, he pretends to drag his feet, slowing her down. "But what about the sunrise?"

Shaking her head impatiently, she pulls at his arm with both of her hands. "No, I want to learn kung fu now!"

Dragging him along, they finally reach the shack. Bursting through the door, she heads immediately toward the twin swords lying on the table by the window. "I want to use that sword!" She points at the Sword of Moon.

"The Sword of Moon?" Tin Pang asks, smiling at her determined expression. "I've noticed that you've been admiring that sword since I appeared at your doorstep, injured and unconscious four months ago."

"Yes, I like that sword!" She beams at him, her smile brilliant. "It's so pretty." She whispers in awe, as she gently fingers the sword hilt.

Reacting to her touch, the Sword of Moon glows a deep blue, its cool blade seeming to vibrate with an invisible energy.

"Well, both swords have been with me since birth." Tin Pang comes to stand close behind her.

Glancing back at him, she continues to reverently run her finger along the hilt of the Sword of Moon. "They've been with you for that long?"

"Yes, according to my parents, on the eve of my birth, a strange phenomenon occurred. The sun rose over the dark horizon, joining the moon in the evening sky. At that moment, two swords fell from the heavens, one glowing fiery red, the other shimmering in brilliant blue. These two swords landed right onto the balcony of my room. One became known as the Sword of Sun and the other the Sword of Moon. From that point on, I became the guardian of these two swords."

Looking at him with wide, fascinated eyes, Ching Ching then turns back to examine the pair of swords. "Wow, then these must be extremely precious weapons." Deep in thought, she frowns as she glances down at her bare toes, her expression forlorn.

"What's wrong, Ching Ching? Why the sad face?" Tin Pang asks.

"If the Sword of Moon has that much sentimental value for you, then I don't want it." She sighs reluctantly, giving the blue-tinged sword a longing look.

"Hmmm…" Tin Pang folds his arms across his chest, pretending to be deep in thought. "You're right, Ching Ching. The Sword of Moon is incredibly valuable. I have fought against countless martial artists who wish to gain possession of the two swords." He pauses. "But…I'll give the Sword of Moon to you as a present."

Quickly lifting her head up, she grins widely. "You will?" She asks, her voice full of hope.

Moving in closer, Tin Pang encircles her slender waist with his arms. "But you'll have to promise me something in return for the sword."

Her face glowing happily, Ching Ching inquires innocently. "What's that?"

Leaning forward, he whispers something in her ear. Hearing his request, she flushes a dark shade of pink. Embarrassed and feeling incredibly shy all of a sudden, she lowers her head and buries her face against his chest.

Laughing at her enchanting shyness, he kisses the top of her head. "So you promise me, Ching Ching?" He murmurs against her fragrant hair. "Hmmm?"

Embarrassing silence follows. Upon hearing no answer, he chuckles again. "I'll take your silence as agreement then."

Pressing his lips to her temple, he slowly trails them down her cheek before reaching the soft plumpness of her lips. "I love you, Ching Ching." He murmurs softly against her lips.

Closing her eyes, she allows her mind to drift, reveling in the delicious sensations coursing through her body and mind as he nibbles gently at her lips. When she feels his hands at her waist sash, loosening the ties, she pulls away slightly, her eyes sparkling with mischief.

"Big Brother! I want to learn how to glide through the air right now!"

"Later, Ching Ching." He mutters, his voice laced with mild frustration.

However, as he tries to reach for her again, she dances playfully out of range. Running over to the table, she grabs the Sword of Moon at the hilt with both hands and dashes out the door.

With a peal of laughter, she runs about the forest clearing, haphazardly swiping the sword this way and that way.

Sighing lightly, Tin Pang drags a hand down his face before following her out. Somersaulting through the air, he lands neatly in front of the twirling Ching Ching. "That's not the proper way to hold a sword." He smiles, despite his foul mood earlier.

Positioning himself behind her, he reaches around, covering both of her hands with his. "You hold it like this." He instructs her, guiding Ching Ching's hands over the sword hilt. "Always plant your feet firmly on the ground to avoid getting tripped by the opponent. And keep your back straight like this."

Frowning with concentration, Ching Ching nods, gripping the sword tightly. "Big Brother, can we practice by chopping at that tree over there?" She jerks her head toward a large, sturdy pine tree.

"Sure." Remaining behind her, he encircles her waist with his left arm. Keeping his right hand over hers on the sword hilt, he swiftly swivels with her to the left. With a brisk, clean flick of the wrist, he swipes the blade downward, sending a burst of blue light flashing forward. The wave of internal energy shoots toward the tree trunk, splitting the thick column of rough bark and sturdy wood precisely down the middle.

Awestruck, Ching Ching gawks at the newly fallen tree. "Big Brother! When will I be able to strike down that tree alone?"

"You might need at least ten to fifteen years of training, sweetheart, before you will be able to attain enough power to direct energy waves across air to strike down objects." Tin Pang answers frankly.

"Then I want to start learning martial arts as soon as possible!" She exclaims enthusiastically.

Dashing away from him, she runs further into the forest, swinging the Sword of Moon energetically in a random manner. "Hurry, Big Brother!" She cries exuberantly, upon seeing that he has not followed.

Without waiting for him, she races into the depths of the woodland, dragging the sword along. Laughing joyously, she skips merrily around an old willow, waving the sword at the trunk, imitating Tin Pang's stance earlier. Finding her game immensely entertaining, she runs off to find another tree to wave her sword at. As the minutes pass, Ching Ching becomes more and more immersed in her play, forgetting the hour.

Suddenly, the sky darkens as gray clouds storm across the heavens, ruthlessly blocking out the warm sunlight, throwing the forest into complete blackness. Day becomes night.

Frightened, Ching Ching drops the Sword of Moon and tears through the woodland. "Big Brother! Big Brother! Where are you?" She screams, terrified. "Help me, Big Brother! I'm scared."

Sobbing, she slips on a wet patch of earth. Landing onto her palms and knees, she whimpers softly, darting her eyes around the darkness nervously. Breathing heavily, Ching Ching scrambles to her feet, unmindful of her badly scrapped palms and knees.

Once again running blindly through the forest, she half weeps and half yells urgently, "Big Brother! Big Brother! Help me, Big Brother!"

Dashing onward, she waves her arms wildly about, trying to dislodge the thick brambles and low hanging tree branches whipping against the soft tender skin of her face, clinging to her tangled hair like talons. Above, the heavens rumble as lightening streaks across the sky, illuminating the forest briefly in an eerie blue-white light. Within seconds, rain pours down, soaking the earth, drenching the terrified young woman as she continues to scream for help.

As Ching Ching tears deeper and deeper into the forest, her footsteps become slower, as if bricks are weighing down her legs. A searing pain suddenly rips through her abdomen, radiating down her legs, causing her to sink limply to the muddy ground. Staring down at herself, Ching Ching gasps in horrified shock as she notices her bulging belly ripe with child.

Shrieking in terror and disbelief, she clutches at her stomach as wave upon wave of pain courses through her body. Thunder continues to ring throughout the heavens, blocking out her cries. Pounding her tightly fisted palms against the muddy ground, Ching Ching releases a final bellow that echoes eerily in the forest. As lightening flashes and flickers across the sky, a newborn baby's lusty cry rings loudly,

Gradually, the heavy rain slows down to a soft sprinkle. The storm clouds separate to reveal the full moon, its rays flooding the forest with a luminescent white light.

Staggering to her feet, Ching Ching cuddles the baby boy in her arms. Serenity envelops her as she stares adoringly at the infant lying at her bosom. She and Big Brother made this baby boy. He is the fruit of their love. Ching Ching gently touches a finger to his soft cheek, as her heart swells with love for him.

The child continues to bawl, while she stumbles unsteadily toward a clearing in the forest, illuminated by a pool of white light. Her heart pounding, she ventures forward, one step at a time.

From within the depths of the woodland, a tall familiar figure emerges, the Sword of Sun glowing red in his right hand. Gasping with relief, Ching Ching rushes toward him, carrying their baby in her arms.

"Big Brother! I have finally found you!" She cries with happiness. "We have a baby!"

Running toward Tin Pang, she suddenly comes to a halt, an uneasy feeling coursing through her. Taking a few steps forward uncertainly, she stares intently into his eyes and freezes with fright.

Cold, emotionless eyes stare unblinkingly back at her, their coal-black depths without any trace of warmth or love.

"Big Brother?" She calls out uncertainly, her voice barely above a whisper.

But he continues to stare emotionlessly at her, his demeanor no longer that of her loving Big Brother.

Seconds tick by as silence envelops the forest.

Suddenly, footsteps pound urgently on the ground, as a group of twenty martial artists burst upon the scene. Each carries a weapon, the blades gleaming dangerously in the pale moonlight.

One of the men breaks apart from the group and approaches Sit Tin Pang. "Chancellor, you must kill this witch and her bastard baby today! You must kill her and rid the martial arts world of her witchcraft!"

"Kill! Kill! Kill!" The mob screams, bloodthirsty.

Shaking in fear, Ching Ching turns pleading eyes toward Sit Tin Pang. "Big Brother? What is going on?"

Yet, Sit Tin Pang remains silent, ignoring her questions.

The baby squirms in her arms, startled by the screams of the mob. As all eyes turn toward the infant, a burly man with a ruddy complexion and a thick neck leaps forward, waving his saber threateningly in the air.

"Kill the baby!" The burly man cries. "Kill the baby! We must not let this witch's offspring grow up to destroy the world!"

"Yes! Yes! We must kill both mother and child!" The crowd shouts maniacally, surging forward like hungry vultures.

Alarmed, Ching Ching clutches her baby protectively against her chest, backing away with terror. "No!" She exclaims. "I am not a witch! I have a name now! Big Brother calls me Ching Ching! I have a family of my own now!" She sobs uncontrollably. Jerking around to face Sit Tin Pang, she sends him a beseeching look. "Please, Big Brother! Tell them I am not a witch! Our son is not evil! Please, Big Brother!"

However, her pleas fall on deaf ears as the man she calls Big Brother remains silent and unmoved. With disbelief, she shakes her head repeatedly, numb from the turn of events. The world begins to spin uncontrollably as her vision blurs.

"Do you know this witch, Chancellor?" The burly man demands accusingly.

"Of course, not, Sect Leader Ding." Sit Tin Pang replies calmly, turning his cold eyes toward the man. "Do you think a man of my status would associate with evil women like her?"

"But she claims that the child in her arms is yours. She is very lovely. Perhaps she bewitched you with her beauty." The man counters suspiciously. "Imagine what others in the martial arts world will say when they find out that the new Chancellor is dallying with a witch!" He snickers.

"Enough of these accusations!" The young Chancellor roars. "Do you dare to question me?"

Narrowing his eyes, the burly man twists his lips sardonically. "Well then, Chancellor. If you claim to have nothing to do with her, then I suppose you will not object to us disposing of her and the bastard in her arms."

A flicker of uncertainty flashes briefly across Sit Tin Pang's eyes. However, that glimpse of emotion is immediately replaced by a cold, indifferent expression. "Do what you wish. I have no objections."

Hearing his answer, Ching Ching panics. "Don't let them hurt our baby, Big Brother! Don't let them hurt our baby!" She whimpers.

Ignoring her pleas, Sit Tin Pang turns his back on her. As the mob surrounds her, the big burly man jumps out and grabs hold of the child in her arms.

"NO!" Ching Ching screams, tugging fiercely.

At that moment, another man leaps forward, raising his sword. With one forceful swipe, he slashes at Ching Ching's arm, causing her to lose her grip on the infant. In horrified silence, she watches helplessly as her child tumbles to the ground, cracking his skull on a jagged boulder. Blood pours from the head wound, draining the color from the lifeless little body.

    "NOOOOOOO!" She screams in agony.

In the distance, thunder rumbles furiously before the heavens above unleash a torrent of rainwater as red as fresh blood. The heavy rain pounds the earth relentlessly, rapidly flooding the entire forest, drowning Ching Ching in its merciless sea of red. Just as she sinks below the water's surface, she catches a glimpse of her Big Brother's cold, indifferent eyes.

"Sit Tin Pang!" Ching Ching screams, the heartless cruelty of his eyes forever tattooed in her memory. "I'll be back! I will search the ends of the earth for you, even if it takes ten thousand lifetimes." As the world turns black, she screams with her last breath, "And when I find you, you and those who have slaughtered my baby will pay! You'll pay! You'll pay!"

    MASTER'S UNDERGROUND LAIR

"You'll pay! You'll pay!" Sui Han shrieks, her voice cracking in fury and heartache.

"Sui Han! Sui Han!" Lun hovers over her, shaking her shoulders forcefully. "Sui Han, wake up!"

As Lun's voice penetrates her subconscious, Sui Han jerks up into a sitting position, her eyes wild, her forehead drenched with perspiration.

"Sui Han, are you all right?" Lun asks loudly and clearly, trying to shake her from her dream.

Breathing heavily, Sui Han gulps in large breaths of air, attempting to calm herself. As her vision clears, she manages to focus in on Lun's voice and face. "First Young Master…" She gasps, her voice hoarse.

Rubbing gently at the tear tracks on her cheeks, Lun shifts closer, placing his arms around her protectively. "Try to breathe slowly, Sui Han." Stroking her back soothingly, he continues to murmur softly to her. "Everything's fine now. It's just a bad dream, darling." Running his fingers through her shiny black tresses, he tightens his embrace.

"First Young Master, the dream was so real." Sui Han shivers uncontrollably, her voice a mere whisper. "I could feel her carefree joy when she was with him, her pain during the baby's birth, and finally the heartbreaking agony and fury when she realized he betrayed her by allowing the others to slay her baby."

"What did you dream about?" Lun asks.

"I don't know who the people in my dream are. I just know that for a few minutes, I was that young woman in my dreams. I shared her joy, her pain, and her fury." Sui Han stutters, still shivering uncontrollably.

"Shh…" Lun murmurs, trying to calm her down. "It's just a dream."

Numb, Sui Han continues to mutter, despite Lun's efforts to soothe her. "I could even feel the weight of the sword in my hands as she lifted the weapon. I could see its dark blue glow…"

"Sui Han, don't think about it anymore." Lun lays his cheek against the top of her head. "Just rest for a while, darling."

Just as Lun finishes his statement, the boulders blocking the entrance to the small alcove burst. As tiny rocks and pebbles scatter in all directions, twenty assassins somersault through the air, landing in a semicircle around Lun and Sui Han, surrounding the couple.

As the thick cloud of dust settles, Blue Executioner emerges, his hands tucked causally behind his back. "Ah, finally! Here are the lovebirds." He smirks, his smooth voice taunting. "I would love to chat for a while longer, but the Master ordered for two dead bodies."

With that threat, Blue Executioner lifts his right arm, signaling to his band of assassins. From behind, ten more men in black rush forward, fanning out on each side of Blue Executioner. Crouching down, they raise their bows, the arrows aiming at Lun and Sui Han
