Hi, cherrie! I haven't heard from you for such a long time! What a nice surprise to find you here again! How have you been? How are your studies? Have you graduated yet?

You mean, you hadn't guessed who the Master was way before I revealed his identity? There were so many people who guessed correctly that I was a bit depressed at how revealing I was. I think my description of his motives for killing was a bit influenced by episodes of Criminal Minds. (Criminal Minds is an American TV series about a group of FBI agents profiling psychopathic criminals in hopes of catching them.)

Anyway, I'm so glad to have you back! Now I feel quite guilty about not getting down to business and finishing up the next chapter. I'll get back to work on the story, then.

hi melanie! now it's been exactly a month after your reply! im currently in my last academic term, next school year i'll start doing my thesis. graduation will depend on how long i finish my thesis. after that i'll have my masters degree. hehe im keeping my fingers crossed on that
nope. i was not able to guess the identity of the master. i initially thought it's the emperor. i guess it's mainly because i was too engrossed with the other characters--siu han, wai sun, raymond, steven, chi chi, kevin, and the others that i tend to 'ignore' some of the characters. yeah andy's one of the characters i had ignored well u still managed to conceal the master's identity successfully, at least u had me fooled
2 terms ago i took up forensic psychology. and of course we talked about profiling psychopaths. that's why when i was reading the chapter, i immediately thought of serial killers.
i realized how sharp your pen is, that you can be so 'ruthless' in killing off your characters. i guess i'll be totally heartbroken if u kill off raymond and steven (yeah for years i've been begging you to spare these two characters...the rest, feel free to eliminate them! )
P.S. im wondering if you have facebook? if got, you can add me in there

Hi, everyone! No, it's not a new chapter posting... I am writing, though, just to let everyone know I haven't forgotten about this story. I just got back from New Orleans! I went without the internet for a while, even though I had free wifi at the hotel I was staying at. I didn't want to bring my laptop with me, since security at the airport was such a hassle. Anyway, my good intention was to write my story while I was vacationing, but then the airport security dissuaded me from bringing my laptop along. Well, I'm babbling now, since I'm so tired, so I'll just thank tweety, cherrie, and aliderhamy for posting messages and keeping this thread alive while I was gone! I'll be back to post more personalized replies to all three of you! Thanks again for reading!

Hi, everyone. I'm back with another chapter. It has been a long while since I last posted in this thread, and I apologize for the long wait for chapter 75. I feel really bad for deserting my loyal readers for so long. To those who sent me emails asking if I am planning to continue this story, I can answer, "DEFINITELY YES!" I won't just leave you hanging, but I cannot guarantee frequent updates. I just don't have enough time. I came down with a cold for the past few days, so I actually had time to sit down and finish writing the chapter. I feel a bit drugged with cold medicine right now, so please forgive me if this current chapter is a bit boring and slow. I hope everyone enjoys it, nonetheless.

    CHAPTER 75 --- WHO AM I?

    Characters appearing in this chapter:
Kevin Cheng Ka Wing---Cheng Sai Chung
Raymond Lam Fung---Chu Kot Chuet Ching
    Gigi Lai Chi---Lam Chi Chi
Selena Li Sze Wan---Sum Guk Yiu
Annie Man Chung Han---So Sui Han
Andy Lau Tak Wah---Lam Siu Tin a.k.a. Chancellor Lam
Louis Koo Tin Lok---Koo Yat Fei

    OUTSKIRTS OF JADE ORCHID TOWN
    FOREST
    EVENING

"Let my Little Brother go!" Sai Chung demands. Using a discarded tree branch as a makeshift weapon, he lunges toward Chu Kot Chuet Ching.

As the oncoming tree branch held in Sai Chung’s hand slices through the air with lightening speed, Chu Kot Chuet Ching pivots sideways, and reaching behind him, he unsheathes the sword strapped to his back. Chuet Ching’s sword twirls rapidly, attempting to slice through Sai Chung’s tree branch. But Sai Chung’s twig, seemingly weak and thin, emits a thick wall of energy, preventing penetration from Chuet Ching’s blade.

With one corner of his mouth lifted in a smirk, Chuet Ching sneers, "I see you have continued practicing your martial arts despite all that nonsense you keep spouting while you were with the Association about wishing to live a quiet life as a farmer."

"I keep up my martial arts skills for my protection. It has nothing to do with wanting to live a peaceful life free from killing and assassinating people." Sai Chung retorts. "I suggest you leave the Association, too, or you will end up dying at the hands of someone you intend to assassinate. What goes around comes around." He warns Chuet Ching.

"Thanks for your advice, good friend," Chuet Ching replies sarcastically. "As an assassin, I kill with my sword and I know I shall one day die by the sword. It’s the life I live."

"But you can choose a different lifestyle!" Sai Chung tries to reason with Chuet Ching. "You can choose to walk away from all this senseless killing! We don’t have to be enemies!"

"Enough of this nonsense!" Chuet Ching spats out. "I have orders from Association Leader to capture you, so there is no point in trying to convince me to let you leave without a fight."

With his left palm, Chuet Ching disperses the wall of energy surrounding Sai Chung’s twig. Pushing forward with his sword, he flicks upward, knocking away Sai Chung’s tree branch.

While Chuet Ching’s blade approaches Sai Chung, he leans quickly to the side, avoiding the advance. Sandwiching the tip of Chuet Ching’s sword between his left second and third fingers, he pushes his right palm forward to receive his opponent’s oncoming blow. As their palms clash, the energy blow forces both men to back flip away from each other.

As Sai Chung lands several paces away from Chuet Ching, Chi Chi calls out to Sai Chung. "Big Brother Sai Chung! Come untie me quickly!"

Without taking his eyes off Chuet Ching, Sai Chung kicks at two small pebbles near his feet. The small rocks cut through the air with lightning speed, hitting the thick ropes binding Chi Chi’s wrists and ankles, slicing through them as if they are cotton wisps.

Shrugging free of the ropes, Chi Chi rushes toward Sai Chung. "Big Brother Sai Chung! Are you all right?" Before waiting for Sai Chung to answer, Chi Chi copies Sai Chung and picks up a fallen tree branch. "I’ll help you take care of this arrogant man!" Charging forward, Chi Chi aims her twig at Chuet Ching.

"Wait, Little Brother!" Sai Chung attempts to stop her rash move, but acts too late. Even before the words leave his mouth, Chi Chi is already attacking Chuet Ching, swiping her thin, inadequate tree branch at her opponent.

Amused at her feeble attempts to injure him, Chuet Ching crosses his arms across his chest and shifts slightly to the side, avoiding the jab of Chi Chi’s twig. Then, with deadly precision, he reaches out and clamps his hand tightly around Chi Chi’s slender wrist, applying enough strength to force Chi Chi to drop her makeshift weapon.

"Ahhh!" She cries out in pain as she finds her right arm twisted behind her.

"Little Brother!" Sai Chung lunges forward in alarm. Too late, he reaches her just as Chuet Ching clamps his left hand over her throat, squeezing down. "Don’t hurt her!" He pleads with Chuet Ching. "Let her go. Our quarrel has nothing to do with her."

"Hahaha!" Chuet Ching smirks. "I see you have a weak spot, Cheng Sai Chung! Tsk, tsk! Don’t you know that an assassin should never form any emotional attachments to anyone? Once you start feeling, you lose your touch and you start making mistakes. And the next thing you know, you’re dying by your own sword because of your foolish emotions!" Emphasizing his words, he clenches down on Chi Chi’s neck harder, causing her to gasp for air.

"What exactly do you want, Chu Kot Chuet Ching?" Sai Chung demands, his anger starting to rise. Usually with a calm personality, he nonetheless begins to feel the veins at his temples throb with frustration, the fury slowing building within his chest as he sees the woman he loves in pain and danger.

"What do I want?" Chuet Ching repeats calmly. "Oh, don’t worry, good friend. I won’t ask for your life, since Association Leader wants you captured alive. But that doesn’t mean I will deliver you to him in one whole piece." Narrowing his eyes at Sai Chung, Chuet Ching smiles coldly. Tossing a dagger at Sai Chung, he jerks his head at the weapon. "Take that dagger and severe the tendons of both of your legs and your right arm." When Sai Chung just glares at him, he mocks, "What? Too cowardly to do that for the woman you love? Fine, then I’ll just kill her right now." Tightening his grasp around Chi Chi’s neck, he lifts her off the ground.

With her feet dangling and kicking furiously a foot off the ground, Chi Chi sputters, "Don’t worry about me, Big Brother Sai Chung! I’m the Chancellor’s daughter. He won’t dare kill me. And even if he does, my parents will hunt him down and slay him like an animal to avenge my death! Run! Run while you can. Go to Lam Mansion and tell my parents how I died!"

As Chuet Ching squeezes even more forcefully around his captive’s slender neck, Sai Chung implores, "Wait! Wait!" Taking in a deep breath, he nods with resignation. "All right, all right. I’ll do as you say." Leaning down, he picks up the dagger at his feet. Placing the sharp blade against the skin of his right wrist, he glances over at Chi Chi once more. Then, he lifts the blade resolutely and makes a move to slice downward.

Before the dagger is able to contact his right wrist, a green whip flashes toward Sai Chung, knocking the weapon from his hand. Looking up in surprise, Sai Chung sees Sum Guk Yiu somersaulting through the air and landing before him.

"Guk Yiu!" Sai Chung exclaims in surprise.

However, before he is able to say anything more, she lashes out at him. As he leaps out of her whip’s way, Sai Chung somersaults over a high tree branch, slipping away just seconds before the green whip wraps itself around the branch, viciously ripping it off the tree. As Sai Chung lands onto the ground, the whip follows tenaciously, snaking its way rapidly through the air like a flying serpent. Leaping up into the air again, Sai Chung executes a series of backflips, choosing to evade Guk Yiu’s attack rather than to take the offensive. As he swerves to the left, he reaches out with his right hand and snags the end of the whip.

Keeping a tight grip on his opponent’s weapon, he calls out, "Guk Yiu!" When she stubbornly pulls back on the whip, he yanks back, thus engaging in a tug-of-war with her. "Guk Yiu!" He yells, this time more sternly. "Guk Yiu! That’s enough! I don’t want to fight you!"

"I’m sorry, Big Brother Sai Chung!" Guk Yiu replies. "Chu Kot Chuet Ching and I have orders from Association Leader to capture you."

Meanwhile, in the background, Chi Chi struggles against Chuet Ching’s grip. "Big Brother Sai Chung, don’t bother reasoning with these people! Just get away while you can!" Then, directing her attention to Sum Guk Yiu, Chi Chi hollers, "Hey, lady! If you or your big bully of a partner here dare to harm me, my father will hunt you down! My father is the Chancellor! He will not only finish you off but go after your Association Leader, also!"

Ignoring Chi Chi’s empty threats, Guk Yiu tugs again at her whip, but she is no match for Sai Chung’s superior strength. Abandoning her whip, she flies toward him, her palms outstretched.

Quickly letting go of the whip, Sai Chung meets her oncoming palms with only a quarter of his internal energy, not wishing to hurt a friend. However, she seems to disregard his kind gesture by attacking again and again. Even as Sai Chung twists and turns and evades her, Guk Yiu relentlessly pursues after him, as if goading him to fight back.

"Guk Yiu, what is wrong with you?!" Sai Chung hisses through clenched teeth. "We have always been friends. I don’t want to hurt you! Just get Chu Kot Chuet Ching to release my friend and I will go peacefully!"

"Big Brother Sai Chung, hit me back!" Guk Yiu whispers back at him, not wishing for Chuet Ching to overhear her in the background.

"What??" Sai Chung gasps at her in disbelief.

"Hit me back!" Guk Yiu mutters at Sai Chung again, all the while continuing to throw punches at him. "Chu Kot Chuet Ching will come to my rescue if he thinks you’re going to harm me! He will let go of your friend and come save me!"

With understanding finally dawning on him, Sai Chung starts taking the offensive rather than avoiding Guk Yiu’s attacks. Now no longer sparing her, he sweeps forward with his right palm. A burst of energy slices through the air, thick, heavy, and menacing, and yet, lethally silent.

A few paces away, Chuet Ching calls out a warning to Guk Yiu. "Guk Yiu, be careful of his Silent Palm!" His heart beating faster, Chuet Ching watches Sai Chung’s Silent Palm swiftly approach his beloved. Forgetting about Chi Chi, he drops his sword on the ground and lets go of his captive. His thoughts filled with only Sum Guk Yiu, Chuet Ching flashes through the forest, reaching Guk Yiu within seconds. Looping an arm around her waist, he lifts her out of harm’s way. With one arm outstretched, he receives Sai Chung’s Silent Palm.

A resounding blast echoes through the wood as their palms clash. All around, small critters run for cover. As a blanket of shaken leaves rains downward, Chuet Ching sets Guk Yiu aside and focuses on combating Sai Chung.

Out of the corner of his eyes, Chuet Ching notices Chi Chi running for his abandoned sword. Reaching toward his sword with his right arm while fending off Sai Chung with his left, he sends a channel of internal energy that acts like a magnetic field, ripping the sword out of Chi Chi’s hands and bringing the sword flying toward him. As he plucks his sword adroitly from the air, Chuet Ching swings around, just in time to block Sai Chung’s blow.

Kicking out with his left leg, Sai Chung temporarily redirects the trajectory of Chuet Ching’s sword. Sai Chung then retaliates by locking his wrists together and moving his palms around in a circular motion in a stance called Silent Wind, Vicious Tornado. The deceptively slow circular motion of his palms brings forth a whirlwind of internal energy, gathering power, wrapping its force field around Chuet Ching’s sword.

Fighting back, Chuet Ching tightens his grip on the sword hilt with his right hand. Then, he points his left second and third fingers toward the tornado of energy formed by Sai Chung. An equally strong stream of internal energy bursts from the tips of Chuet Ching’s left second and third fingers, cutting through Sai Chung’s tornado like an invisible knife. As the tornado of internal energy falls apart, Chuet Ching advances with his sword once more, aiming for Sai Chung’s throat.

Arching backward, Sai Chung executes a backflip away from Chuet Ching’s blade. Continuing to somersault through the air, Sai Chung migrates toward Chi Chi. Landing in front of her, he grabs her wrist and leaps into the air again, with her in tow. In a matter of seconds, their figures disappear rapidly into the wood, the thick bushes and foliage close in around them like curtains obscuring them from Chuet Ching’s view.

"This fight is dragging on for way too long! Little Brother and I have other business to attend to!" Sai Chung’s voice echoes back at Chuet Ching.

Furious, Chuet Ching prepares to chase. However, Guk Yiu’s cry of pain in the background stops him. Concerned, he rushes back to Guk Yiu’s side. "Are you hurt, Guk Yiu?" Chuet Ching inquires, placing his arm protectively around her shoulders, hunching forward to look at her face, looking for any trace of injury on her.

"I’m…I’m fine," Guk Yiu mumbles. Clutching at her heart, she pretends to moan a little. "I just feel a little weak. The internal energy from Cheng Sai Chung’s Silent Palm must have injured me."

"You’re hurt?!" Chuet Ching asks in alarm. "Where are you hurt? Let me see."

Sidling out of his arms, Guk Yiu turns her back on him, muttering guiltily. "I’m fine, Chu Kot Chuet Ching. I just need to sit down for a second." Crossing her arms across her chest, she peeks at him over her shoulder, feeling a little remorseful about tricking him when he is so concerned about her safety.

Scrutinizing Guk Yiu, Chuet Ching narrows his eyes, starting to sense that she is lying to him all along about being injured. "Are you pretending to be hurt to stop me from going after Cheng Sai Chung?" When she remains silent, he feels his fury begin to escalate. "Are you, Guk Yiu? Are you?" Walking toward her stiffly, he grabs at her arms, none too gently, and shakes her harshly. "Did you know that Association Leader specifically ordered me to capture Cheng Sai Chung and bring him back for punishment for deserting the Association? He gave me a maximum of ten days to capture him. If I fail my assignment, I will be the one punished, maybe even put to death!" Leaning down so that his face is only inches from hers, Chuet Ching asks slowly, "Is Cheng Sai Chung that important to you that you are willing to risk my life for his? Am I that insignificant to you, Guk Yiu?"

Not knowing how to respond to Chuet Ching, Guk Yiu lowers her eyes shamefully to avoid looking into his intense gaze.

Staring at the top of her head for a few more seconds, Chuet Ching could feel his heart shattering, a little piece at a time.

"Chu Kot Chuet Ching, I…I…" Guk Yiu begins, not sure how to proceed.

"No," Chuet Ching cuts her off firmly. Sighing, he straightens and allows his hands to fall heavily away from her arms. Taking a step away from her, he gives her an empty stare, already closing himself off from her. "Don’t answer. I don’t want to hear your answer anymore." Laughing at himself bitterly, he shakes his head at his own foolishness for loving someone who doesn’t return his love. "All these years, I have been lying to myself, pretending to be a cold-hearted assassin with no feelings when, in reality, I feel so deeply for you. I had been a part of the Association since I was five years old. It was the only home I knew of, since I had no family of my own. The Association wasn’t much of a home. Cold, dark, lifeless, it was more of a dwelling than a home, for it never offered a young child any warmth or love. The minute I joined the Association, I was trained to kill without compassion. I killed a human for the first time by the time I turned eight. I lived to kill; it was my destiny…until I met you. And then, I knew YOU were my destiny."

Staring off into the distance, Chuet Ching smiles slightly, recalling the past. "I still remember the first time I saw you, Guk Yiu. I was already quite a seasoned assassin at the age of seventeen. I returned to the Association Headquarters after a successful assassination. My smug bubble soon burst when Association Leader informed me that, now that I was an accomplished assassin, I will need to spend some of my time training a new apprentice, a young orphaned girl whom he had just picked up off the streets."

"I was your new apprentice." Guk Yiu murmurs, also remembering the first time she met Chu Kot Chuet Ching.

"Yes, you were." Chuet Ching’s eyes connect with Guk Yiu’s briefly before he quickly looks away. "I was furious at the new responsibility of training a novice, and a girl at that! I was too important to waste my time on a weak girl. I stormed into your chamber, ready to make some scathing remark at you for complicating my life. But my words died on my lips the minute you turned around and glanced at me with your wide, frightened eyes."

"I was only thirteen years old when Association Leader found me begging for food on the streets." Guk Yiu sighs. "My father had died of illness half a year earlier. My mother had relied on my father for her whole married life. When he passed away, she didn’t know what to do. Overwhelmed with the sudden responsibility and burden of having to take care of herself and me, she opted for the easy way out and leapt into the river, taking her own life and leaving me to fend for myself. I begged on the streets for several months before Association Leader found me. He promised me a clean shelter and warm food for my stomach. So I followed him back. I was terrified, but I was young, homeless, and had no one else to turn to. I told myself that nothing could happen to me that could be worse than my parents dying and abandoning me. But when I first laid eyes on you, I nearly fainted from fear, for you looked like you wanted to tear me to pieces."

"Did I?" Chuet Ching’s lips twist ironically. "Did I terrify you so much that you almost fainted? I nearly passed out, too, when I first laid my eyes on you." He confesses, after a minute.

"You did?" Guk Yiu inquires, shocked. "I frightened you?"

Chuckling heartily for the first time, Chuet Ching shakes his head. "No, you did not scare me!" Then his laughter quiets down and he answers her more seriously. "I nearly fainted because I became lightheaded from just staring at you. You were such a petite and fragile little thing, with a porcelain complexion and large beautiful deep brown eyes. Up until then, I had only known death and darkness. But never had I known such beauty. In my eyes, you were the splash of life and color in my otherwise murky and dark existence. I didn’t know whether or not I loved you then, that first time we met, but I did know that my heart ached so much just looking at you. I could not yell at you, as was my initial intention when I charged into your chamber. I could not even move or think, but could only stare stupidly, besotted."

Walking up to him, Guk Yiu lays her hand gently against his arm. "Chuet Ching," she says softly, her heart, though belonging to Cheng Sai Chung, begins to soften toward Chu Kot Chuet Ching after hearing his confession.

As if burned by her touch, Chuet Ching shakes himself loose from her hand and backs away from her. "There is no need to look at me that way, Guk Yiu. I am confessing my feelings for you today, not because I want your pity, but because I want you to know that you let a good man slip by. I am a good man, Guk Yiu. I may be an assassin and I may kill others ruthlessly, but I could never hurt you. I would have protected you with my life. But from today onward, after seeing how carelessly you disregard my safety in exchange for Cheng Sai Chung’s life, I will not love you anymore. From today onward, I will travel my own path and you will travel yours." Reaching into his robe pocket, he takes out the small wooden figurine he was carving earlier. Handing the figurine to Guk Yiu, he explains, "I carved this wooden figurine to your likeness, because I wanted to keep you always by my side. But now, there is no need to do that anymore. Take it. You can keep it or throw it away. I don’t care anymore." He places the figurine in Guk Yiu’s palm. Then, Chu Kot Chuet Ching turns and walks away without a backward glance.

The darkness of the forest soon envelops him. As he disappears from her life, Guk Yiu feels her throat tighten and her heart ache, just as Chuet Ching’s heart had ached so many years ago when he first laid eyes on her. A single tear trickled down her cheek, landing onto the wooden figurine’s face, bathing the doll’s face with tears…

    MEANWHILE…
    CITY OF HOI YEUNG
    MOUNTAINTOP

"I’m tired, Chancellor Lam!" Sui Han suddenly exclaims to Lam Siu Tin.

"Don’t play games with me, Sui Han." Lam Siu Tin warns.

"Look, Chancellor, I’m telling you the truth." Sui Han argues, exasperated. "It’s well past midnight and I haven’t slept all night. It’s cold and I’m starving. I can’t walk another step, or I’ll keel over and you’ll have to carry me, which would greatly inconvenience you."

Boldly, she plops down onto the ground without waiting for permission. Crossing her arms obstinately across her chest, Sui Han glares up at Lam Siu Tin.

Glowering back at his captive, Lam Siu Tin stares at her stonily and threateningly for a full minute. Finally, he relents, just this once, as he sees no point in continuing their journey at night with sparse moonlight to light the way. "Fine, you can rest until dawn. But once the sun rises and there is enough light again, we will continue our search for the Sword of Moon." Finding himself a spot a few feet away from Sui Han, Lam Siu Tin lowers himself down to the ground and sits cross-legged. Closing his eyes, he allows himself to rest for a few hours. Sensing Sui Han observing him, he continues to keep his eyes closed.

Pretending to sleep, Sui Han sits motionlessly, frantically trying to think of a way to escape. She knows very well that the Master will kill her the minute he obtains the Sword of Moon and she becomes useless. But she cannot outfight him, especially now that she has no martial arts. Outsmarting him will be difficult, too, as he is no idiot. The only thing to do is to lead him on a wild goose chase, buying herself as much time as possible, hoping she will run into someone who will come to her rescue.

Sighing, she glances around the dark. Suddenly, her eyes fall upon some winter white blooms a few feet away, their thin stems gently undulating in the soft breeze. "The White Death!" Sui Han thinks to herself quietly.

She recognizes the deadly flowers and remembers spying her godfather, Fong Sing Duk, using them in the past to concoct one of his poisonous pills. A year ago, she had sneaked into the medicine chamber at the Sun-Moon Sect once and had stolen a glance at her godfather’s poison manuals. She learned the flower’s name from one of his poison manuals. The White Death flower, it was referred to in the manual, such a beautiful bloom with such a lethal name. And from that same manual, she discovered that the plant’s golden pollen could temporarily blind someone for a few hours, while its snowy white petals could eat away at flesh if touched.

Looking contemplatively at the cluster of White Death flowers, Sui Han suddenly smiles slyly, as she forms a plan of escape in her mind….

    ONE HOUR LATER

"Ahhhh!" Sui Han hollers, her voice echoing loudly.

Quickly, Lam Siu Tin rouses himself from his semi-sleep state. "What is it?" He demands, peering suspiciously in Sui Han’s direction.

"Ahhhh!" Sui Han gasps in pain, clutching at her right leg, doubled over in agony. "A snake bit my leg! Help!"

He pauses briefly and then gets up slowly. He advances toward Sui Han cautiously, his eyes filled with suspicion. "Where are you bitten, girl?"

"On my leg! Help me, Chancellor!" Sui Han cries out. "If I die, then no one will lead you to the Sword of Moon!" Even as she moans pitifully, she watches his movements closely with hooded eyes.

As Lam Siu Tin crouches down next to Sui Han to examine her leg, she suddenly lifts her right hand, which is gloved and protected with a swath of torn fabric from her gown. Flinging her right hand forward, she sends a shower of golden White Death flower pollen into Lam Siu Tin’s eyes.

Outraged, he swipes his arms around, trying to protect his eyes from the rain of powder-like pollen. But a few of the deadly golden particles have already contacted his eyes, burning them fiercely. A black curtain drops down in front of his eyes as he is blinded temporarily for a few hours. "You impudent rascal!" Lam Siu Tin roars at Sui Han.

As he continues to swipe ineffectively at the air and stumbles blindly, Sui Han quickly dashes to her feet and races over to the thicket of White Death nearby. Not having any martial arts skills left, Sui Han thinks quickly and takes off her outer gown, and using it like a large fan, she sweeps it at the White Death flowers, shaking the white petals loose and sending them rushing toward Lam Siu Tin. Aided by a sudden strong gust of wind, the snowy white petals wrap around Lam Siu Tin, their deceptively gentle embrace burning the exposed parts of his skin instantly.

"Ahhh!" He shrieks. Swiftly, he uses his internal energy to divert the shower of petals, therefore only suffering minor burns.

Hearing movement to his right, he swivels toward that direction. "Do you think you can run away just like that, Sui Han?" Lam Siu Tin sneers. Furious over the ambush, he sends a surge of internal energy toward his right, catching Sui Han in the back, as she tries to escape. The blast knocks her out immediately, her unconscious body catapulting into the air and down the steep mountain cliff. As he listens to her body drop over the cliff, Lam Siu Tin cackles maliciously. "Do you really think you are indispensable, Sui Han?" He screams maniacally into the night. "I can find the Sword of Moon, with or without you! You dare to ambush me?! Nobody can try to outsmart me without paying the price with death! Hahahahahaha!"

Lam Siu Tin somersaults off into the night, his silhouette rapidly engulfed by the darkness. Only his laughter, hollow and eerie, trails behind, echoing hauntingly from atop the cliff, penetrating deep down into the dark abyss where Sui Han has fallen…

    THE FOLLOWING MORNING
    CITY OF HOI YEUNG
    MARKETPLACE

"Buy one, get one free! Come look at these beautifully handcrafted scarves! Come take a look, even if you don’t buy!" The middle-aged vendor screams at the top of lungs, his potbelly jiggling with each word.

Seeing the approach of a dark-complexioned, tall young man, the overweight vendor excitedly waves his arms in the air, trying to catch the young man’s attention. "Young Master! Young Master! Come over here and take a look at these silk scarves! Made from genuine silk, these scarves will surely make the woman in your life swoon with happiness! Look at how soft they are!" He touts, shoving the scarves into the young man’s hand.

Ignoring the pieces of fabric in his hands, Koo Yat Fei unrolls a piece of parchment in his hands, revealing the drawing of a young woman. "Have you seen this young woman? Her name is So Sui Han." He asks urgently.

Realizing that Yat Fei has no intention of purchasing anything from him, the vendor suddenly changes his demeanor. "I don’t have time for this nonsense." He replies tersely. "Move along if you’re not interested in buying my scarves." With a twist of his lips, the chubby man turns his back on Yat Fei and starts shouting to other passersby, hoping to entice another potential customer to come over to his vendor stand. However, before he is able to get two words out, he feels himself yanked backward roughly.

"I asked you a question." Yat Fei whispers softly, yet lethally, his hands clutching at the lapels of the vendor’s gown. He glares at the short, stout vendor, his lean, handsome face barely a few inches from the frightened man’s pudgy face. Dangling the drawing of Sui Han in front of the vendor’s face again, Yat Fei narrows his eyes. "I want you to take one good look at the drawing again and think very, very hard before you answer. Have you or have you not seen this young woman?"

The chubby man gulps, his jowls quivering with fear. Nodding, he darts his eyes over to glance at Sui Han’s likeness on the parchment. "Umm…Umm…" He gulps again, his voice shaky. "I have…have not seen her before."

Nearly lifting the man off the ground, Yat Fei demands, "Are you sure?"

"Yes…yes…" The vendor answers anxiously. "I wouldn’t lie to you, Young Master! However, just a few minutes earlier, before you walked up to my vendor stand, another young man had a similar drawing of your pretty lady and was inquiring her whereabouts, too."

"Another man is looking for Sui Han?" Yat Fei furrows his brows in surprise. "Who is he?!" He shakes the vendor, causing the man to squeal with fear.

"Please, please, Young Master! I don’t know who the other young man is! I just know he is tall, about your height, quite clean-cut and good looking, and is wearing a long, white robe." The vendor stutters.

"Is there anything else you remember about him?!" Yat Fei practically screams at his unfortunate victim.

"Ahh..ahhh… I’m not sure." The man replies.

"Not sure?!" Yat Fei’s hands shift to the vendor’s neck and squeeze, his frustration over not finding Sui Han making him unreasonable and rash.

"Ahh…ahhh! I do remember something, in fact!" The vendor corrects himself, his whole body still suspended a foot above the ground by Yat Fei. He tries to recall his earlier encounter with the white-robed man frantically. "The other young man held a sword with the Chinese character ‘Lam’ inscribed on the sword hilt! That’s it! Lam must be his surname!"

Upon hearing this new piece of information, Yat Fei clenches his teeth. "That man looking for Sui Han must be Lam Yik Lun!" He growls, more to himself than to the vendor. "I HATE Lam Yik Lun! Who does he think he is, always following Sui Han around!" As he vents to himself, his hands loosen around the vendor’s neck, allowing the man to slip back down onto the ground. Just as the overweight vendor begins to sigh with relief, he finds himself lifted off the ground again by Yat Fei, who glares at him with a stony expression. "Do you know which way that other man went?"

"That…that…that way!" The vendor points a shaky finger toward the right. "He went toward the neighboring village, Blue Moon Village."

Dropping the vendor back down onto his feet, Yat Fei storms off toward the direction Lam Yik Lun took.

    MEANWHILE…
    CITY OF HOI YEUNG
    SEASIDE, BOTTOM OF CLIFF

The cries of a seagull compete with the crash of the waves against the rocky cliff side. The bright morning sunlight splashes upon the surface of the crystal clear water, creating a blanket of sparkling light, like liquid drops of diamonds shimmering with each ripple of the ocean. The waves’ frothy fingers curl and wrap around the large boulders lined up haphazardly at the bottom of the mountainside. Atop a large flat rock lining the shore, an unconscious young maiden lies, her face sheltered from the sunbeams by her long black tresses that are matted to her wet face like a curtain. Her tattered gown reveals several deep purple bruises and some cuts and scrapes on her arms and legs.

For hours, the young woman continues to lie there atop the large boulder, motionless, unaware of the salty ocean spray against her cheeks. Finally, after what seems like an indeterminable amount of time, she awakens and moans. Slowly, her eyes drift open. In her semi-conscious state, she hears the scrape of boots against the pebbles of the rocky shoreline. Blinking, she sees the blurry image of a pair of blue boots coming toward her. Putting immense effort into keeping her eyes open despite the piercing pain behind her eyes, she tries to focus in on the approaching person’s face, but could only make out a fuzzy male face, his features hazy.

The man in a blue robe reaches her and crouches down next to her. Extending his hand forward, he gently brushes her hair away from her face, revealing her pale, delicate features. Unable to move due to her injuries, she could only stare up at him, helplessly and silently. In her pain-filled mind, she could tell that he knows her from the brief flicker of recognition in his eyes.

"Well, I come here for a morning walk and look who I run into! It’s certainly a surprise finding you here." He smiles slowly, charmingly. "What happened to you?"

"What happened to me?" The young woman repeats blankly. As she racks her brain, trying to recall what happened to her, her already parched throat turns even more dry as she finds herself devoid of any memories of what occurred that landed her in this situation. "I…I don’t know." At that moment, a wave of pain stabs through her head, causing her to cry out. As the surge of pain dies down, she blinks against the sunlight, her eyes filled with frantic tears. Looking up at the man beseechingly, she starts to panic. "I don’t know what happened to me. I can’t remember anything at all!"

"You don’t remember anything at all?" The man in blue asks, his tone skeptical at first. However, when he sees the genuine alarm in her eyes, he realizes that she is telling the truth. His suspicious tone fades, his voice turning deep and soothing. "It’s all right, darling. Don’t panic. Do you remember who you are?"

"No…no…" The young woman scrunches up her brow in deep concentration but only encounters a blank memory. "I don’t know who I am! I can’t recall who I am!" Focusing her frightened eyes on him, she reaches her hand toward his, in a pleading gesture. "Young Master, you sound like you know me. I saw a flicker of recognition in your eyes earlier. Please help me. Do you know who I am?"

In response, Blue Executioner takes Sui Han’s hand in his. Bringing her hand up to his lips, he gently rubs his lips against the back of her hand. Smiling winningly at her, he lies, "Of course I know who you are, sweetheart! I am your husband, after all."

Wow! What a cliffhanger! I had forgotten all about the Blue Executioner. Rapist on the loose again. Gosh, Sui Han keeps getting into trouble. Where are her tall handsome knights to the rescue? Either Gilbert or Lois will do.

I am really missing Ekin and Kristy. Hope they will appear in your next update. Thanks for the wonderful work and for not abandoning this story, Mel.

Hi, tweety! Thanks for writing something, especially so soon after I posted the new chapter! After so many years...and you're still here with me! It makes me a little teary! Thanks, tweety! Like I told another reader at winglin, I'm very, very grateful for having readers, like you, who have shown such tremendous loyalty for so many years. Sometimes, I think you and the other readers are really too kind and forgiving despite all the loopholes in the story. I, myself, know more than anyone else how many flaws there are in the story, and yet, whenever I read a nice comment like yours, I just feel such relief that my new chapter is not a complete failure. So thank you again!

Anyway, it's funny the way you say, "Rapist on the loose." Blue Executioner is not very popular, is he? I'm kinda curious. Who do you prefer come to Sui Han's rescue - Louis or Gilbert?

Ah, you're another Kristy/Ekin supporter, I see. Lots of those around. Well, here's spoiler for you, tweety. There will only be one happy couple at the end (maybe two, if I'm in a really good mood, but I doubt that.). Which couple would that be? Well, I'm not giving that away, though.

Hi, cherrie! Sorry it took me this long to write a personal note to you, but I was a bit busy. It sounds like your Masters degree is within reach, so keep up the hard work! What is your Masters degree on? By the way, I wrote chapter 75 with you in mind, since you like Raymond Lam quite a bit. I don't have Facebook. I might eventually get an account, but I think it might distract me too much. Thanks for wanting to add me on as a friend on Facebook, though.

Hi, aliderhamy! I never had a chance to thank you for reading the story. You know, now that you have mentioned it, this story does remind me of bits and pieces of other wuxia stories. I am sure I must have unconsciously weaved in parts of things I've previously seen on TV series.

Thanks, aliderhamy! I hope I keep doing whatever it is I'm doing so that you keep coming back to read the updates! Thank you so much for reading.

Yea, most people are not fond of Blue Executioner. It's interesting that you haven't said that you can't stand the Master, even he is probably more diabolical than Blue Executioner.

I should be thanking you for keeping this story alive. Unlike me, abandoned my pet project . I've been in awe of your writing since the very first chapter all those years ago. I love your so called "flaws" and hope we can make it to the end together. If I'm still conscious and able, I will continue reading till you stop writing

Regarding poor Siu Han's situation, I'm not sure who should be the white knight. Since Louis hasn't met up with Annie for the longest time, I think it would be nice to reunite them, if only for a little bit.

I am an avid supporter of Ekin/Kristy and Kevin/Gigi for this story. But since you said only 1 happy couple, I'm rather fearful for my fav couples now. If they meet the same fate as my Vincent, I will be so crushed

Can hardly wait for the next chapter and take all the time you need. I'm sure I can find other activities to amuse me

It would be great if you include Yuan Hong and Wallace Chung in your fanfic cuz I'm currently craving for those two especially for Wallace Chung after watching him in Patriotic Knights. He was pretty much the highlight of the series for me and watching The Four Detective Guards right now just for him too. Sorry guys for talking so much about other actors in this thread but I really need to give Mel her support for her to write her wuxia fanfic. =D
Ok, hi again, icrayray. And before I forget, thank you so much for going out of your way to let me know you like my story, even in other non-related threads. Let's continue our discussion of Legendary Book here. Regarding Wallace Chung in a new wuxia fanfic, I will be very honest here. I indeed tinkered with the idea of writing another wuxia story with Wallace Chung as the main lead, since I am so in love with him right now. However, I have enough problems finding time to update my current story (Legendary Book) that I fear my other Legendary Book readers will clobber me on the head out of frustration if I divert my energies to another story. I don't have many readers, but I still have a few faithful ones who have followed this story for years, and I feel that I should at least show my gratitude for their loyalty and support by completing this story as soon as I possibly can.

Now, on to the good news and minor spoiler for Legendary Book. (So for those of you who do not wish to know any spoilers, please stop reading now.)

And the spoiler is... Even though I don't think I will pursue a completely different story starring Wallace Chung, I already have some plans on incorporating him into the current Legendary Book story. Do you remember the young leader of the Floating Cloud Sect (Black Rose's husband and father of the Guardian)? Well, there will be a flashback chapter focusing on the founders of the Sun-Moon School of Swordplay, Black Rose and her husband. I plan to cast Wallace Chung as the leader of the Floating Cloud Sect. The casting of Black Rose and her evil older sister Poison Snake is yet to be determined, though. As for Yuan Hong and Qiao Zhen Yu, I may put them in the flashback chapter, but it's only a maybe for now. I want the flashback to mainly concentrate on Black Rose, her husband (leader of Floating Cloud Sect) and Poison Snake. There may be an additional male, though. We'll see.

Hey, tweety! We haven't chatted in a long time. And no, this is not a new chapter posting, because I know you usually think I've posted a new chapter every time there is activity in this thread. So sorry. However, the good news is that I have 7 word document pages of the next chapter written already.

I can't tell you much about Sui Han's situation, because I haven't really decided what will happen to her myself. Remember? I make the story up as I go.

And I can't tell you whether or not Ekin/Kristy and Kevin/Gigi will survive in the end because that will spoil everything. But, despite not having a planned out plot line, I already have decided who will make it to the end and who will not. That, at least, has already been established in my mind.

Hey Mel, you are welcome and you deserve the praise. Anyways, regarding Wallace Chung, it would be great to see him in Legendary Book even if he's not in a new fanfic. I totally understand your concern about writing two fanfics at once and I think your decision to incorporate Wallace is great since I do want you to finish Legendary Book and not leave it hanging for a new fanfic lol. Take your time, life can be pretty hectic at times, don't stress over updates. Also, glad to know that there is someone out there who is crazy over Wallace Chung now like me lol.

Thanks for understanding that I cannot start a new fanfic without ending up neglecting this one. I try to not stress over updates, but I feel like I'm losing readers with each chapter I write since my updates are so far and few in between. Hopefully, you'll have enough patience to hang around until the very end of the story.

It's nice to know that we both love Wallace Chung. I remember that you told me at winglin that you are not that fond of some of the actors and actresses who I have in Legendary Book. (Thanks for looking beyond that and reading my story, nonetheless.) At least, now, we have found common ground in Wallace Chung. What if I pair him up with someone you don't like?

LMAO, Mel you are indeed evil lol, i'm joking. Good question I have never thought about that before, you pairing Wallace up with someone I don't like lol. But nevertheless I will still follow your story because I believe that you can pull it though with your writing even if you paired him up with the most hated actress of all time, I am not deterred by that. I understand its hard to not stress over updates and losing readers but unfortunately this is not something we can control. The most I can do is to let you know I will be one of the few faithful readers you have! Anyways quality is more important than quantity isn't it? And between, I read on your comment back at winglin that you travel, would you be kind enough to share some of your travel experiences with me cuz I'm currently in the dying to travel stage mode right now lol.

OMG Mel, once again I had high hopes that you've updated , but at least you are gaining progress on a new chapter. Gives me excitement just with that info. Gosh, woman, do not make me nervous about Ekin/Kristy and Kevin/Gigi. I so hope they make at the end .

Regarding Wallace Chung, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE pair him up with Sun Fei Fei! . I love them as a couple. Am inspired to write a story with them as the lead roles, but me have no time . So I must rely on your fantastic writing skills to fulfill my wish.

Yes, I think I know how you feel; I've basically gone straight through school and never traveled at all during my school years. Now that I actually have some money, I am going wild with the traveling to make up for all my years of wistfully watching my more well-off friends travel. Now, mind you, I am still not that well-traveled, as I have only started appeasing my wanderlust in the past one year or so. Do you have anywhere you want to go in mind? If it is somewhere that I have visited, I can offer you my thoughts on that place. So far, in the past year, domestically (I live in the United States), I have gone to New Orleans, New York, Philadelphia (only one day there), Hawaii, and Alaska. Internationally, I have visited Paris (only one day), Prague, Rome, Venice, Sydney, Cairns, Vancouver, Ensenada (only one day). As a young child, I have been to Hong Kong, but I don't remember much about it, though. And I have an upcoming trip planned for Germany! But don't worry, I will post the next chapter up before leaving for Germany. Let me know which one of the above places you would like to know more about and I'll try my best to elaborate.

Sorry, tweety. I don't have a new chapter yet. That's why I try not to post in this thread unless I have a new chapter for fear of disappointing you. I feel bad that my creative juices just cannot keep up with the demand of my readers. Sorry, everyone.

But don't you think couples who have a sad ending make a more lasting impression? I need to create enough angst and conflict to leave room for a possible sequel.

You know, tweety, I burst out laughing when I read your request for Sun Fei Fei. Woman, you're so demanding, I just knew you would put in a request for someone to be Black Rose! After all that whining and crying you did about my killing of Vincent Jiao's character in the story, I almost feel bad enough to give in to your request. Okay, let me think about Sun Fei Fei. I haven't seen Sun Fei Fei act before, but I've seen her briefly in some MV's of Rose Martial World with Wallace Chung, and she looks very pretty and has a very sweet, innocent smile. She might fit the character of Black Rose. I briefly thought of casting Song Jia (the beautiful actress who played Wallace Chung's character's wife in Ni Shui Han) as Black Rose. However, nothing is set in stone yet in my mind. Therefore, since I am extremely grateful for your years of loyalty to this story, I might just honor your request for Sun Fei Fei.

And tweety, if you do write a story with Wallace Chung as the lead, I will be the first one to read it! You are such a great writer! I am still quite sad over your retirement from writing your story with Annie and Kevin. If you decide to complete it one day, let me know.

icrayray, if you think I'm a good writer, you haven't seen true talent yet! Tweety here is the truly gifted one with storytelling.

No, I don't think sad endings make more lasting impressions because I don't want my fav couples to kick the bucket. Where else will I find happy endings for them? Ekin/Kristy only ended up together for 1 movie (The Duel). Broke my heart that she died in Wind and Cloud. With Gigi already retired from acting, there is no chance of seeing Kevin and her together.

Hehehe, you know me so well, Mel. Of course, I must give my input for Wallace's wifey. If SFF makes it to the story, I will be infinitely grateful . No more harassing you about the horrible deed done to Vincent. But don't consider this as any form of threat.

Oh, you are too kind with your compliments. I haven't written anything for quite some time now. My skills, if you can call it that, are probably really rusty now. Once I pass the last part of my internal audit certification exam, I will have a lot more free time. I just might pick up the "pen" again.

Thanks Mel, let's see. For now I have plans for Alaska, Hawaii, Sidney, Vancouver, Rome, and Venice. Yes, money and school takes away great opportunities. I was quite sad to know that many of my well off friends are all going on trips this summer and I'm just stuck here working and waiting for the fall semester to start. But I have already talked it through with my mommy at least, I am going on a long trip/vacation after I graduate and I was planning for an Asia tour with my best friend. I was thinking about an European tour as well but it would probably be way more expensive than the Asia tour so I'll save the European one for when I can afford it lol. And a trip to Germany! That would be nice, hope you have fun! Just curious (I live in the US too)but when you visit other countries, how does the communication flow (do they mostly know English and their native language or just their native language)?

LOL, there's gonna be competition for Wallace's wifey I see.

By the way, hii tweety, nice to meet you.
By the way Mel praised you, I'm pretty sure you are also a great writer, would love to read your work too someday.

It's so cool how the three of us are all crazy about wallace
