    Cool History Bits

Have few questions for Laviathan or anyone who knew the answer.

    1. In which Song emperor reign did the Water Margin story happened? I know that it occured in North Song but not sure what year.

    2. what is the family name of Xixia royal family during the Song,? E.g. for Liao, it was Yelu, Duan for Dali, and Wanyan for Jin.

    thanks ahead.

    1. Not sure. But more chance of it being the North Song.

    2. The Xixia Royal family was Li.

The Emperor who reigned during the Warter Margin period was Huizong, who was one of the Emperors captured by the Jins later. The other Emperor was his sucessor Gaozong i think. Water Margin occurred prolly bout 20 - 30 years before the Jin Kang incident. Here are some connections of Yue Fei's reconquest of the North with Water Margin. (Some might be more legend than historical)

    1) Huyan Zhuo, an original member of Liang Shan, who had retired, personally went to fight against the Jin Prince in order to allow the Song Emperor to escape from a city. He had better technique and would probably have won but was too old and thus eventually became too tired to carry on. He rode back into the city but the draw-bridge broke under the weight of his horse and he fell into the pit and died a patriot.
    2) Guan Sheng's son, met and fought Yue Yun, son of Yue Fei over a misunderstanding involving a horse. They eventually realised their error and out of respect for each other became sworn brothers.
    3) Two of the Yuan brother sons served under Yue Fei after he recruited them.
    4) The person who taught Yue Fei how to read and how to fight was also the teacher of Lin Chong and Lu Junyi, two heroes of Liang Shan.

And this part is defintely not historical...
    1) Guo Jing was a descendant of Guo Sheng, one of the heroes of Liang Shan.

Huizong's successor, who was captured together with him by the Jins, was Qinzong. Gaozong was the next Emperor, and the first of the Southern Song Emperors.
