hahaha well. just by pictures alone, i would totally pick HXM over peter too but there's like something about peter after you watch him on screen (or off, in his adorable BTS stuff ) that just makes you like him! it takes time, but he definitely grows on you he just has this charisma/presence that draws me in, hehe

I've been watching Shanghai Bund (2008) recently and HXM is very swoon-worthy. I definitely like his version of a Shanghai mobster than Wallace Chung's in Shanghai Wang.

but i really liked wallace in shanghai wang too! i think that's when i started to notice him actually. i just think that that general look from the time period suits men - they all look so suave!

Yeah, he's actually not a consistent actor. I disliked his performance in ROCH06, Royal Tramp & Summer's Bubble, but his Xu Wen Qiang in New Shanghai Bund really bowled me over. I'm looking forward very much to The Patriot Yue Fei - the trailer looks intense!

I liked the storyline of Shanghai Wang, but thought the casting and costumes were terrible. The female lead looked old enough to be Wallace's mother... Wallace doesn't look nearly as dashing as HXM because his suits were ill-fitting and he had that terrible worm-like mustache.
I'm on EP 17 right now and HXM's grin just makes my screen sizzle. Phew!

But yes, Xu Wen Qiang is totally swoon-worthy!

Yeah, I know. He can really swing to the extremes. When his acting is bad, he's pretty much downright annoying. But when he's good...WOAH! Xu Wen Qiang definitely counts one of the topmost performances I've ever seen by an actor.

i think i didn't like him in summer's bubble because his character sucked, and peter's character was just soooo swoon-worthy haha
but yeah i can't wait for the new yue fei series! maybe it'll air in china while i'm there this summer

hahaha! worm-like mustache but i liked wallace before he had that mustache! he was hot

also, yes, his young YG was pretty annoying, but imo it gets a lot better as the series progresses and he matures (especially after the 16 year separation w/ XLN)

Recently finished marathoning Shanghai Bund. Spoilers ahead!

I am very dissatisfied with the ending. How does Xu Wen Qiang dying solve anything? Mobster Boss Feng is still going to work with the Japanese, with Ding Li as his lackey. How can Ding Li and Cheng Cheng have a happy marriage when he killed the man she loves most? Basically, no one has a good ending....

Also, I felt that the last 5 episodes were very rushed. I don't think Wen Qiang was actually in love with his wife because he still yearned after Cheng Cheng. The revenge scheme should have been developed more.

The ending should have been that Mobster Boss Feng tries to shoot Wen Qiang but Cheng Cheng blocks the bullet for him and dies in his arms. Wen Qiang leaves the jianghu reunited with Ding Li and Mobster Boss Feng loses his entire business and is jailed for his crimes, forever hounded by the fact that he killed his precious daughter.

^ i believe there was an alternate ending shown in some parts that had both men dying (wen qing from ding li's shot and mob boss from wen qiang's shot) that ending satisfied me a bit more; maybe you should try looking for it? haha
