This is the official article for each racer who is nominated as the best 2006 racer. I already posted this news before. I am posting it again with the formal pic. Final results are not yet in.

    Jimmy Lin
    Jimmy Lin Rally Team
    Participated races: CRC

Entertainers participating in the racing circle seems to be a trend lately. Entertainers need to have break-throughs and try out new styles. Audience also acquire new taste. But most entertainers just dabble in racing or do it for show. None is like Jimmy Lin who races as a career. As an "older" entertainer, Jimmy's fame has not diminished. He stirs up a storm at every race he particiates in. More and more young people learn about the CRC and racing through him. But most important, even though Jimmy has not been racing long he has improved tremendously. He has also formed Jimmy Lin Rally Team and racing has become his 2nd career. He is doing an excellent job in both the entertainment and racing worlds.

    Thank you so much, ladycoco.

I hope Jimmy could win this title, so Jimmy would be most joyful.

Nope, that sure isn't Jimmy. But i think it would've been a really cute pic if that really were Jimmy caring for Liu He Na's lip.

I got interested in Jimmy's racing career. I ran across this interview that appeared in a China Racing magazine in Sept 2002 and decided to translate all 7 pages. Some of the technical terms and names I couldn't translate. Enjoy!

    Now the translation...

    -------------------------------
    AutoSport Report
    September, 2002

There are many movie stars who love racing, but Jimmy Lin is the only one who
made it his career. "Little Whirlwind" is a household name. Jimmy fans are
everywhere. We are writing about his racing life outside his entertainment
    life.

Ten years ago "Little Whirlwind" Jimmy Lin became the idol for millions of young
people. Today, his fame has not diminished. Every activity he participates in
attracts a lot of fans. In every race, there are always fans following him.

In this year's rally race in Shanghai, I went to a shop in front of a school to get
something to eat. Two girls asked me if I was a reporter. They had been there for
half a day and was wondering when they could see Jimmy. I told the poor girls
that jimmy had already dropped out. They couldn't see him there. Even if he
hadn't how could they have known which race car he was in whey they zoomed
by. Their best bet was to go to the repair area to see if they could see their idol.

At Zhuhai, there were always lots of female fans who sneaked into the repair
area and wanted to be photographed with him. The good-natured Jimmy never
refused any requests. It then attracted more and more people and security had
to be called in to disperse the crowd. Jimmy was very understanding of his
fans. "It is hard on everyone. I understand them and try to satisfy their
requests. I have a company that handles all my fan mail and gifts.

In 1997, the 23 yr old Jimmy first participated in the Taiwan Supercar Race. Race
cars include Porsche, BMW, Fuji, Hyundai NSX, Japanese Skyline . Because the
speedway in Taiwan is short, high-power cars may not be very effective. Jimmy
used a Ferrari 348 and won 3rd place. He was very excited. Before this race, he
learned from some prominent Taiwan racers. This also showed his racing talents.

In 2/1998, Jimmy participated in the Taiwan Rally Race. This was his first 500km
race. During the last 2km his SAXO14 race car had braking problems and ran off
the road. He was very disappointed. "It was a pity because it was so smooth all
along. But this is my first rally race and safety is most important. Next time I will
    be more careful."

After a few races, Jimmy had made up his mind to become a racer. Even if he
could not be as famous as his idol Michael Schumacher, he wanted to be famous
    in Taiwan.

He bought two race cars, Fuji and BMW M3 and determined to be in the top 3 in
October's Supercar race. Unfortunately his Fuji had mechanical problems during
practice and he had to use the backup BMW M3. During the race, he successfully
passed 2 cars. But then the transmission had problems and he had to drop out
after just one lap. In November Jimmy participated in the WRC Australia Hyundai
Rally Race. The car he used was an Accent 1.6L. The entire race was 1500km.
After he finished 1430km his car broke down. While disappointed Jimmy enjoyed
    the thrills of racing.

In 1999, Jimmy filmed several movies and series (Legendary Siblings 1). He had
to squeeze time in between for racing.

Because he had to drop out of many races in the previous year, he wished he
had better luck this year. From past experience, he had given up on all other
race cars and used only BMW M3. His best speed was 275km/hr. The weather
was bad in his first race of the year. He started in the 4th position and passed 2
cars with his steady driving in the rain and got 3rd place.

After another 2 months of filming, Jimmy was able to participated in the 3rd
Supercar race of the year. He missed the one in 6/1999. He had to ask a friend to
modify his M3 racecar for this race. He got 2nd place again.

In order to improve his skills, Jimmy started to race Formula cars in ZhuHai
International Speedway (ZIC) in 2000. He was invited by his friend, boss of Hong
Kong FRD company and racer, Ma Han Wah to participate in the Impreza Formula
Challenge Cup. His skills improved tremendously at ZIC and paved his road to
become a Taiwan first class racer. (Formula racers are rare in Taiwan.)

Jimmy said, "Racing is like filming. I have to get out of my hometown in order to
improve my skills." Even though his schedule was very tight and he didn't have
much time for practice but participating in Impreza and Renault 2000 Formula
races helped him improve. At the moment he ranked about mid to upper position
    because of lack of experience.

Because of the filming of "Lu Xiao Feng" and "Bao Lian Deng" Jimmy participated
in only 3 Supercar races this year. He got 2nd place in the first race. In
December's race he was forced out of the course when he tried to pass the car
in the 1st position. However, he broke his own record at TIS speedway: 103.919.
This was almost 10 seconds faster than his record of the previous year and
placed him at 6th rank among all Taiwan racers at the TIS. This result was
    spectacular!

The Taiwan Plastic Cup was held on the last day of 2001. This was a prestigious
event since it only invited the racers whose single lap speed was below 107 at
the TIS. All the first class Taiwan racers participated. Jimmy was young with
excellent skills but lacked experience. In the first half of the race he held the
3rd position. During the last few laps he slipped during a turn and was passed by
the car behind him and got 4th place. His status of Taiwan first class racer was
established. 2001 was his shining year. ESSO signed a year-long contract and
sponsored all his races (at an 8 digit figure). He broke records and became the
first racer to get 1st place in all 4 Supercar races. He still holds this record. That
was the peak of his racing career.

Since 2001, Jimmy was interested in China Rally races. In 3/2002, he was invited
by Radial Tire to participate in their rally team race in Shanghai. Radial Tire
invited him not just because of his fame but also his highly respected formula
racing experience. Shanghai Rally was held on mostly paved roads that he
    specialized in.

The result was dispointing. Not only Radial Tire did poorly but Jimmy had to drop
out after 2 km into the SS2 race section. His car flew over a countryroad bridge
and landed in a farmer's vegetable garden. He still has vivid memory of the
incident. "I still remember the moment. There was a sharp right turn after the
bridge. My navigator signalled a small right turn. I was already in the air and
could do nothing but land in the farm. The local spectator led me out. Everyone
recognized me. The Shanghai race was very important for me and Radial Tire.
Dropping out was very disappointing. I was overwhelmed. That was my first rally
    race in China."

Jimmy's thoughts of the Rally Race in Shanghai, "The car I used mostly in Taiwan
speedway races is M3. I particicated in a lot of races and knew the speedway
and the cars well. I could remodel the cars to suit my needs in order to win. This
race in Shanghai was too hastily done. I didn't have time to familiarize myself
with the car or communicate with my navigator. Rally races are unpredictable.
Getting into it hastily is what got me into this. The main reason I came to China
to participate in Rally races is because of my sponsor. I also want to enter the
China racing circle. If I enter another rally race in the future I will better prepare
myself and won't do it hastily."

According to Jimmy, "Racing in China needs some time to develop because of lack
of speedways like Taiwan. When there are more speedways the whole racing
environment will improve. China has world-class ZhuHai Internation speedway. I
also heard that there will be more built. I think China's racing has a bright future.
The races in Shanghai and WuHan are well organized. After my experience in the
Australia WRC the rally races in China are not that far behind. The races in China
are just as good as the ones in Taiwan.

Jimmy always brought along his laptop and camera when he participated in races.
He filmed and edited many of the races. The film he did of the Changchun Rally
Race was very professional (www.rally.net.cn). It couldn't have been done by
someone who doesn't know anything about rally races. And every car has its
technical details along with background music. A lot of TV stations could not have
    done it as professionally.

    1. Jimmy was glad to be interviewd and wanted to meet other racing fans if
possible at the Rally Race in November.

    2. How does he schedule his time: Racing is my career and also my interest. The
racing schedule is usually set a year in advance. I can then schedule other filming
    and singing events.

    3. Jimmy has a big happy family with both parents, one older brother, two
younger brothers and a younger sister. His family support his racing career. They
were concerned about his safety at the beginning but after they found out that
racing is a very safe sports with very good protection then they are relived.

    4. His love life: He didn't mention about this and we didn't feel like asking.
There are rumors about his romance with Ruby Lin. "It is an old rumor. We are
    good friends." Go figure.

    5. What racers Jimmy admires: He doesn't know any Chinese rally racers well
enough. There are young Formula racers who have potential. He likes Colin
    McRae and F1 Michael Schumacher.

Wow, i didn't know Jimmy liked Mickey and Minnie Mouse that much --- enough to have a room that's decorated with mainly Mickey and Minnie. So how many bedrooms does his house have? Does Jimmy live by himself?
