Thanks. Finally someone noticed that I have a new avatar. I think Jimmy's better looking than his younger brother too. But he always jokes that he is the ugliest among his siblings. His family (except his father) are camera-shy. I wonder what his mother looks like to have such beautiful children.

Since Jimmy in in a serie with Ho Mei Tian. I thought i should make a thread for him. I think Jimmy acting is very good. He seems to have a baby face. But that makes him very cute.

March 1, 2007

Right after the interview started, two 7th grade girls came over and asked, “Jimmy, can you give us your autograph. We love you!” I smiled because I was wondering if he still had young Taiwanese fans. And he kept his same sweet and pleasant smile as if nothing could touch him. He has a smart head underneath his baby face. He started a business when he was 18. He turned to racing when his entertaining career ran into a roadblock. His racing team now ranks third in China. The idol market is brutal. Yet he spreads himself out in several areas and won’t let himself run into a dead end. His smile has not been eroded by reality and is still very attractive.

“Are you afraid that today’s young people won’t recognize you?” I asked. “How come?”
He flashed his trademark smile which hasn’t changed a bit. I felt like I was back in high school when Jimmy was the “Little Whirlwind”. He was as hot as Jay Chou is today.

He made a splash when he debuted at 17 and broke a lot of records. He was the youngest entertainer to perform in HungHum Coliseum in Hong Kong. After two and a half years he had to serve compulsory military service. What’s ironic is that when he was hot he thought it was just fun. But after he left the military and wanted to make a career in entertaining he was no longer hot.

“When I was young everything came too fast. I thought everything was new and fun with so many people liking me. Then I thought I was mature enough and I wanted to change. I sang songs like “Men are easy to cheat” and tried to act cool and grow a beard. But fans didn’t like it and I wondered why.”

He was 22 when he left the military. He is 32 now. But I still can’t image him acting cool with a beard. He looks just like a young worry-free rich guy.

When he first started out he was called Aaron Kwok’s successor. Their styles were very similar. Aaron Kwok has his ups and downs. But Jimmy is more flexible. He has more options.

“I think Aaron is great. He has great will power to make it through.” Jimmy smiled. No matter how tough the question he will smile in return as if it is a habit. As long as he smiles any problems can be resolved.

He has many talents. “When I stumbled in the entertaining business I just went into racing. I am quite talented in it.” He tried too hard to prove himself that he had a serious accident during a race. His car burst into flame and he broke 3 bones in his foot.

“I asked myself why this happened. Then I realized that I was too rash. I kept trying to beat others. I should have worked on basic skills first. I should be my own competitor. It is like in the entertaining business. I don’t have to compete with others. And then I felt much better.”

Jimmy then went to China and made a lot of ancient series like Xiao Yu'er in the Legendary Siblings and Duan Yu in Tian Long Ba Bu. Both characters are sweet and innocent like him.

He is now filming his first modern idol series, My Lucky Star in Taiwan. His character is again a young rich guy. “But this rich guy is different. He is good at a lot of things. He is popular among girls. He was traumatized as a kid from his mother committing suicide in front of him. This role is something that I have never tried before. This character is a little dark. I hope I can build a different image in modern series.” Jimmy knows how to package himself. “This series also has racing in it. I got interested when I first read the script. I always wanted to combine acting and racing.” With plentiful resources he was able to provide many super sports cars during the press conference and filming. The album he released last year also has a racing theme.

Jimmy has a business mind. He made a lot of money when he was 17. He invested the money into 7 photography studios. Then he started a software company (which is still operating well), a car dealership, his own racing team with TW$10M sponsorship each year. He also has an online shop that sells his own line of accessories. He recently opened a restaurant.

“I am the kind of person who likes to dabble in everything. I was a naughty kid. I liked to touch everything even though I knew it would hurt.” He was a lucky kid growing up in a wealthy family with protective parents. He gained fame at an early age and didn’t run into too many obstacles.

He also can make money from his many interests. “Once I find something I really like I will study it with furor. I can always turn my interests into a career.” But when he talked about some troublesome clients of his software company he just shrugged as if he was letting someone else worry about it. He only cared about the fun part.

The entertaining business is just an interest now. “A lot of fans have been with me for many years. I am happy that they like my work. But my accomplishment comes from racing. It is more personal. Racing is my own challenge. I am quite talented. There are no races between December and March. After that I have to race every month. If acting is for others then racing is for me. When I race I compete with others. I don’t have to smile for people. I like that.”

When he talked about racing he is manlier. Then we realize that he is really 32 and we are no longer high school kids.

Jimmy has no other relationships after Ruby Lin. He said, “I am spending all my time on other things, so …” He said he is learning how to operate a boat. “I have a learner’s permit. I want to get a real license. I also want a business license. Then I want to buy a yacht for fishing!” First it is racing then it is a yacht. He has such a good life. He wants a business license. I hope he is not thinking of operating a tourist boat at the pier…

The "J" that appears in his MV last year is the most expensive "J" in history. He has 10 yrs of racing experience.

1997: entered his first race
2000: got his first 1st place in racing
2001: got seven 1st places in one year

It also talks about the series My Lucky Star he is filming now that combines his two loves: racing and acting, and he can make money out of it too.

The blue Maserati MC 12 race car that he is standing in front of in the last pic is rare. There are only 25 in the world. The Maserati MC 12 Corsa is even rarer, only 12 in the world.
