Yeah, i've seen a couple of celebrities who buy really expensive stuff for their "friends." And then it's revealed that it was because they truly were involved with one another. It's either that or Jimmy's just a really nice guy.

Yea, I agree with you beanybeans!When you are just "friends", especially with the opposite sex, there is a limit of how much you would do for them and how much money you would spend on them. IF you do more or spend a lot more than you would for just a "normal" friend than it usually shows that you are involved with them. However, there can be some rare exceptions....

The filming crew was filming a racing scene on a road with no rail guards. Two race cars were chasing each other. The tires screeched when the cars came to a halt. A young man in red racing outfit got out and bystanders were surprised to see that it was Jimmy Lin himself and not a stuntman.

15 years ago, Jimmy captured youngster’s hearts with his pure bright smile and healthy style. He entered the Hong Kong market at 18 and shot to stardom. His record sale was spectacular. He held 4 concerts in Hong Kong and became the youngest artist to perform in Hung Hum Coliseum. He got the nickname “The Little Whirlwind”.

From 17 to 20 he held 31 concerts and won 20 awards. His fame spread from Taiwan to Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Korea, US and Canada. But little known about him is that he is also a very good investor. He owns real estates in China and has invested in restaurant and racing. His net worth is estimated to be over several TW$100M. His friends called him CEO Lin.

He wasn’t dazed by his initial success in showbiz but worked on planning for his future. “A friend of mine spent TW$5000 on making a photo album. I thought that was good money. I studied photography in high school and knew what the cost was.” He invested TW$1M and opened a photography studio with a friend. It expanded to 7 studios. In the best year, the profit from one studio was TW$15,000 to TW$20,000 a month. He was just 20. After 3 ½ years he closed the business and made almost TW$10M.

Then he entered the Army. When he retired from the Army in 1996 the industry was saturated with pop idols. He had to change. “Then I decided to race cars to fulfill my childhood dream.” He entered his first race the following year and won 3rd place. But his family didn’t support him. “Because everyone thought that I was just a rich playboy. What could I have achieved?”

He was injured in 1998 during a race. “My car ran into a wall at 150 km/hr and burst into flame. Luckily I got out first. I broke 3 bones in my foot.” With this setback plus his showbiz career was at a standstill he finally realized that he was losing control by acting too rash.

He rested for 6 months and returned to racing. He learned to surpass himself and not others. “In 2001 I could almost say that I had no more opponents in Taiwan.” He no longer chased record sales and turned to a new goal. “There is only one winner in racing”. From his determination we can feel his fervor.

In 2000 he started to invest in racing but was opposed by his family. “A race car cost TW$4M to TW$5M. There are 20-30 workers in a race. It’s money burning.” But he figured, “If I have good results sponsors will come.” Sure enough, Jimmy Racing Team had spectacular records and Esso sponsored him. Other commercial sponsors also followed and he turned a profit.

He raced in China in the past few years. In 2005 he opened a racing consultant company with friends in Zhu Hai. It has its own racing tracks and also developed and tested car products. It has a racing school that trains racers and organizes races. He also opened a car dealership, Road-Star, in Taipei. It buys, remodels, and resells antique cars. He also designs and sells other related merchandize.

His racing team, Jimmy Lin Rally Team, won 3rd place in China Rally Races in 2006. He ranked 8th personally. A lot of people can’t believe in his achievements and said that he must have received monetary help from his father. On the contrary, he said, “My father only gives me spiritual support. I made my own money.”

He also invested in real estates, stocks, and mutual funds. “I saw a house in the countryside of Beijing. I took one look and bought it. My friends said I was crazy. But its value has more than doubled.” The house he bought in Shanghai a year later also has doubled.

When asked about his real restate portfolio, he said conservatively, “Some are for me to live in and some are rented out.” He wants to keep a low profile.

As for stocks, he humbly said that he is still learning. He invested in stocks in 2000 and lost 4/5 of his investments. He sold all his stocks last year. But he got back in this year. “This time I’ve learned my lesson. I will buy low and do my homework.” His stocks and mutual funds are ¼ of his total investments and are managed by professionals.

He opened a restaurant in a shopping mall with friends late last year. When he was making movies he could only eat lunch boxes. He always wanted to open a restaurant. His Dream family Café’s receipts of TW$1.5M in December was #1 in the mall.

“I was a little concerned when we first started. There are only 2 elevators that go up to the restaurant. The location is not good. We have to depend on words-of-month.” The atmosphere is a dream world with colorful designs. On the day of the interview, an elderly couple loved the atmosphere and enjoyed the food. After the initial success he started to advertise. His philosophy is, “Announce it only after good results.” His plan is to open more restaurants in Beijing and Shanghai.

He has been in showbiz for 15 years. His fees for making a movie are TW$10M. His net worth is estimated to be over several TW$100M. Compared to his peers his success is due to his personality. “I work twice as hard as others. In my first few years in showbiz I practiced dancing and memorizing scripts all day. I slept only 2 hours and never complained.”

He never thought he was luckier. He said his way to success is concentration. “Work hard, follow your goal and don’t give up. That’s very important.” You have to concentrate like racing. If you lose by 0.01 of a second you still lose.

He sleeps only 4 hours a day. He goes online or read. “Sleeping is a waste of time.” He’s not only inherited his father’s business mind he also works twice as hard. That’s the reason he’s wealthier than his peers.

In 1993, Wang An wrote a song about Jimmy. “You are young and you are successful. You are the boss. You can have wind or rain.” Maybe others think that his success is due to good luck. But besides luck, he has the ability to concentrate on his goals and never slack off. That’s the reason he makes money in so many areas. “Life is like racing. Control the steering wheel and charge ahead.” This is Jimmy’s life.

Hmm. I agree with the lying part. When he finally publicly admitted his relationship with Ruby on tv he was obviously very uncomfortable. That's what he got for lying. Ruby did her best to get the upper hand. When asked why he didn't admit it years ago he said something like he treasured his privacy. And now history seems to repeat itself.

However, Jimmy is a very private person. He doesn't want his private life to be front page news. If you searched the web a few days ago the Shanghai pics were on every major/minor showbiz media. It even made it to HK newspaper Singtao. I think he's hoping that it will die down after he denies it. His official forum exploded after this came out.
