if theres no season then i guess they dont need the schedule. but i think if the lockout is only half a yr then they'll just start the season whenever the lockout is over and use the rest of the schedule.

the WHA just held a draft for their league, and there are some big name players from the NHL getting drafted. http://www.detroitgladiators.com/rounds1_5.php
cant believe gagne was drafted 1st overall, green is second !!!! i know some players (like forsberg, naslund, etc) will NEVER play for the WHA, but u've gotta think dat there are better players then green who are willin to play there next season, specially since bettman and goodenow seems indifferent about an extended lockout. and what about hull, i thought he would play there 4 sure to support his dad, but i dont think he was drafted.
this is just weird tho, watchin all these canucks players getting drafted by other teams, its like the fantasy draft in nhl2004 all over again

Howe is travelling a lot... giving speech and stuff.

He was in Saskatoon a while back... and basically just did some speech for a banquet or something.

He also play some celebrity hockey games (against the city police a few times).

I should take a picture of his statue we have here of him

    no one

there will never be another great one... just because the style of the game change and now you have goons out there with sole purpose to eliminate top scorers.

No one will ever put up numbers like the Great One anymore but I do hope that Sidney Crosby will be one heck of a player. Canada needs an individual that will dominate the game. It has been some time since a Canadian is considered the best hockey player in the world.

altho not clear cut choices, but iginla, sakic, pronger, neidermeyer, brodeur gets alot of vote for dat title. did anybody heard dat gretzky recently claimed dat naslund is the best player in the nhl rite now??

ps, dont forget that lemieux guy, when healthy, he'll still put up 100+ pts easily, while playing w/ guys like rico fata and tomas surovy

Super Mario was awsome and if he wasn't hurt I could see him breaking the unbreakable Great One record career points record and maybe season points record but as you can see... opposite teams will always shadow him, knocking him over, etc. injurying him. Also his health is not good either.

For the Great One, he wasn't just a great player, Wayne also had one of the best group of talents around him during the time in Edmonton. He had Messier, Kurri, Anderson, Coffey, etc etc. I doubt we will see another group like that seasons after seasons and for a long period of time. It could also be due to too many teams and with players filing for free agents for more money at the prime and move to another club etc.

Those are obviously great players but ask anyone who's the best in the world and most will say Peter Forsberg. I don't include goalies because it's hard to compare goalies with skaters. As for Lemieux, he was great and can still do wonders but he's at his last straw. Canada needs new blood and stop relying on the old guard.

At least Canada has a better future than Sweden. The latter may have some amazing players right now but their young prospect are pretty ordinary. After Foppa, Naslund and Lidstrom, there is no one else on the horizon at the same level. That country is in deep crap. This coming World Cup is their last chance of winning something significant..

The only country that can rival with Canada in future prospects is Russia with young players like Ilya Kovalchuk, Alexander Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin. If Ovechkin is all what people are saying, he'll be one of the best hockey players in the world. That's why I want Crosby to pan out really well.

Peter Forsberg is another awsome player who is limited by his playing time to injuries.

All the new guys are good but can't really be compare to the greats because to be a legend you got to have consistant thru out your career. So far is hard to see these new kids untill they lace up and start playing with the big boys which to me has always been the NHL.

if lemieux was healthy, he would've been the highest score and point getter, and he'll be ranked as the top nhl player of all time, i really believe that. its so sad dat players like him, orr, forsberg, bossy never get to play a full career and show the world what they can really do. but i think stay healthy is a skill too (altho in mario's case theres nothing he can do about cancer), so to be considered as the greatest u cant just be the most skilled.

as for swedens future, i agree they are in trouble in the future. but forsberg and naslund and lidstrom are still relatively young, and even tho they may retire from the nhl soon, they'll still compete in the international turny. most of sweden's 'core' players arent old (including sundin, alfredsson, ohlund) but yea, they dont have any top notch youngster on the horizon, unless zetterberg becomes the next forsberg and the sedin twins develop beyond expectation (which im praying as a nucks fan )

canada's future is still awesome with players like heatley, spezza, j-bo, nash, fleury, phaneuf. all great players dat have a chance to be special, and all under age 23. i'll believe all the hype about ovechkin and malkin when they prove it in the nhl.

Ya Canada hockey will always have decent team now and in the future... which is nice. It is harder to tell in the europeon teams because at least I can't see how their country treat their young hockey players.

I was in Penticton to do some work last week and their is a famous hockey camp there. These were kids up like 5 in the morning and skate almost till midnite in the evening toning their skills.
