Default Healing with inner power and seating positions

In wuxia adaptations, if one character is using inner power to heal the injury of another character, they usually assume one of the following seating positions:

    1. Face-to-face, arms outstretched, each person's palms flat against the other person's palms.

    2. Healer sits behind the wounded person, with his/her hands on the injured party's back.

Did Jin Yong, Gu Long, etc., really describe them in such positions while using healing techniques? Also, if they did, how did the characters decide between the palm-to-palm position and the hands-on-back position?

In real life, sitting positions have an effect on the circulation of your chi.

My boy, you are very misguided in the art of chi gong.
