In the classroom Karen focused on lots of Rassias-style modelling (a dynamic, emotion-charged methodology, where to learn a language you must commit both the intellect and the psyche). Karen combined her modelling with phonetic reading work, pronunciation, and relaxation and breathing exercises.

In addition to English classes Ruby was determined to further her acting skills by familiarizing herself with America techniques. For this, she attended private classes at the well-known New York Film Academy , an exclusive partner of Embassy CES .

Outside school, Ruby’s favourite activity was to engage in the time-honoured New York addiction known as shopping! "It’s my first time in New York , it’s good,” Ruby said. “Whatever you want to buy, you can buy." Ruby was also able to peruse in absolute anonymity, which is a far cry from life at home where she is instantly recognizable to countless fans. Ruby also enjoyed the pleasures of a New York winter and several ski trips with friends and the school.

Despite a busy schedule and a very diligent attitude to her homework, Ruby took some time out to visit her favourite ‘Sex and the City’ haunts. And she was thrilled to make time for a ladies lunch with fellow Asian celebrity, Kyeong Rim Park at the popular Meatpacking district bistro ‘Pastis’. Ruby and Katy hit it off instantly as they chatted away over oysters and spaghetti carbonara. Discussion topics ranged from the challenges of learning English as a beginner to a ‘Who knows Who?’, where they talked of which famous friends were coming to visit them in the Big Apple.

Ruby Lin joins "Lucky One Hundredth" interview

As TaoZi's first interview recording after the Spring Festival, Ruby Lin who has just returned from her NY studies was invited in as special guest to openly discuss her travel experiences. So why does Ruby prefer her studying-abroad destination to be NY? It seems that she enjoys watching Sex and the City, and so was eager to visit NY to see what it was really like! Ruby's favorite amongst the characters of Sex and the City is Samantha, yet it seems inconceivable to associate Samantha's
blatant views of sexuality, to Ruby's conservative views; TaoZi smiles at Ruby :"You wouldn't turn into such a person would you?", surprisingly Ruby replies :"You'll never know, perhaps when I am over 30, and no longer in the entertainment circle, no longer in Taiwan, perhaps then there'll be change, perhaps even into someone like Samantha by any chance!"

After a trip to NY, have there been any contrasts drawn between males from Taiwan and NewYork? Ruby admits that even now the first glance at a male is still his looks, but if it's his body, the butt would be the first place to look. TaoZi took the moment to ask her to compare the differences between Taiwan butts to NewYork butts, and Ruby replied openly :"Taiwan buttocks are rather flat, and NewYork buttocks are more raised!". Following up, TaoZi asked whether during the free days in NY Ruby had any chances to attempt a romantic relationship with any foreigners? For this, Ruby replied:"I've yet to taste western food!"

Living by herself for 3months in NY, Ruby made many companions, as well as deeply realising how clueless she was at ordinary day to day living; When once she bought some microwave food from the supermarket, it made her realise that she didn't know how to operate the microwave; at the same time it allowed her to sincerely appreciate the days at Taiwan when her mum and assistant was there! Yet, Ruby's most significant achievement on this NY trip has been her English, when on the last day she was able to contact her ISP with English alone to cancel her connection. As for whether love relationships will ever be made public? Ruby replied straightforwardly :"I am not so overgenerous, I wouldn't want everyone to know". Ruby expressed that she is very conservative when it comes to love relationships, so even if she is in one it won't go public; since entering the entertainment circle Ruby was twice in a love relationship, but neither was made public!

As for the rumored boyfriends, Ruby's explanations are; Alec is like an older brother, haven't considered starting a relationship at the moment, the thought that if one day we become lovers, holding eachother's hands, seems very amusing; Leo Ku is a friend, ZhouJie a colleague, and as for Lee Wei it was seriously a coincidence that we met on the Fifth Avenue, totally unknowing, so we went to eat together, and watched the Lion King, that is all.

For someone whose romantic life has always been plain, Ruby has undergone change recently, after seeing those friends around her becoming pregnant one after another; in the near future everyone will be devoted to their families, so it's starting to create a feeling of loneliness for Ruby; as such she has begun to change herself, slowly expanding her own living circle.

Recently the Zhou-Hou relationship has been all over the media. Lin Hsinju, who had just came back from New York, at the mention of relationship, exhibited an innocent look on her face and said: "Ai-yo! Why are you asking this question again? I really don't have a relationship for you to write about! Can we skip this question?" Revealing her frank/straightforward personality to its fullest.

Regarding her "rumored" boyfriend Alec Su, as well as Li Wei, both "coincidentally" also traveled to New York, it seems similar to the method used by the Zhou-Hou parties. But Lin Hsinju appears more honest in this aspect, completely not denying she saw Alec Su and Li Wei. "I saw Alec Su once, and Li Wei twice. Seeing friends abroad is a very happy thing!" I still feel that relationships should not be publicized. Relationship-wise I'm very petty/not generous person. Even if I'm in a relationship, I still don't want to let anyone know."

This trip abroad to New York, the biggest gain Lin Hsinju received, besides language skills greatly improving, learning how to be independent, she also learned that to see whether a man's body looks good or not, is to check out their buttocks first, she joked: "New York men have great bodies, b/c their buttocks curl upward, making look very firm." But when Tao Tzi asked Lin Hsinju whether she met any guys in New York, whether she tried dating foreigners, Lin Hsinju laughed and said: "I have not tried western-style food yet!"

Li Wei yesterday said, he saw Lin Hsinju coming out of a store on Fifth Avenue, and felt very surprised seeing her. Although previously both went out to eat once together w/ other friends, but bumping into each other in a foreign land has a feeling of familiarity to it. Within those ten days, they both ate together, catched "Lion King" show on Broadway.

Afterwards, Lin Hsinju also introduced Jerry Sherlock, the head of the well-known New York film school she's attending, Embassy CES to Li Wei. Then Li Wei transfer to this school. Li Wei is very greatful to Lin Hsinju for the recommendation. Director Stephen Spielberg also send his child their for school.

So how was Li Wei and Lin Hsinju's interaction went? Li Wei laughed and said, he and Lin Hsinju are very "innocent." He feels that Lin Hsinju is very adorable, have her own views/ideas, makes people feel very comfortable, "it's really great to have such a friend."

Lin Hsinju, who had just returned from New York, along w/ manager He Xiuchiung are promoting her new book "My Private New York" on Xiao Yan je's show on Startv.

On the topic of living in New York for three months, Lin Hsinju expressed that she actually requested it from her manager He Xiuchiung for two years already. It wasn't easy taking three months off. Lin Hsinju mentioned it was really lonely when she just got there. She attends classes Monday through Friday, and goes out on the weekends. Because of the time difference she must wait untill very late at night in order to chat w/ her friends, to combat her loneliness.

On the topic of the recent Chow-Hou affair, Xiao Yan je mentioned that unmarried entertainers having relationships is a very normal thing, but only knew about the situation after reading the newspapers, it is very unfair to the other party. But the company in charge Star Movie is not the victim but an injured party, on this Hsinju added: Yes! Should be quite sad! It's so hard for entertainers to have relationships!
