tho i would prefer asians stars remain english-nameless.......i dont see a need to have english name when asian name is already unique....i dont see people having hard time to remember Zhang ZiYi or Chow Yun Fat, as long as their acting is memorable enough.....

She was born as "Zhang Ziyi" and has no need to add a foreign name to her own. Hopefully, her success will encourage more Chinese entertainers in the future to not amend their names too. As ghostdarTeal'c pointed out, she, Chow Yun-fat and others prove there's no need to change their names for international success. Good acting will speak for itself.

The only thing that bothers me about ZiYi not having an English name is when non-Chinese people try to say it and botch it. There are those who can pronounce it dead on, and then there are those that just makes me cringe.

The thing about Vicki and ZiYi mentioned earlier...that was because it's easier to show a movie as opposed to a serial. And with Vicki's So Close out in the US (YES!!) we can only hope. I'd be glad to see more Chinese actors/actresses become famous here, regardless of who they are.

Very recent news has it that Zhang Ziyi will have a singing role in director Zhang Yimou's second wuxia film Shi Mian Mai Fu ("No Way Out" - aka Lovers - formerly, House of Flying Daggers). According the Zhang Yimou, Ziyi will play the character Xiao Mei, a blind geisha girl, a role for which Ziyi will be required to sing for the first time on film.

The director is expected to finish post-production in Australia in April, in time for the film's premiere screening at the 57th Annual Cannes Film Festival in May.

Chow Yun Fat actually does have an English name. It's Donald.
Yeah, perhaps it's better for Asian stars to remain without an English name if they can't find a decent one to suit them.

I was trying to get more info on where fans might be able to meet with Ziyi in LA and just got a reply that a TV commercial shoot scheduled for LA was cancelled and moved to Paris and that Ziyi would not be able to then also meet with the guy working on the English section of her English site, HelloZiyi. So, she's not coming to LA, afterall. :sigh

Anyway, it seems that Ziyi got sick with the flu on Tuesday, but was able to do a whole day of photo shooting in Beijing on Wednesday for two mags that'll promote her film Jasmine Flower in May.

Ziyi just returned to Bangkok, Thailand last night...

I think Zhang Ziyi will have a nice singing voice. I think because to me it sounds like her voice is very high but still smooth. I don't know, I just figured her voice is has much potential for singing.

I'm not too big of a fan of Ziyi, but I admit she was good in Road Home. Although some of you say it's desperate and tiring, but I thought it was sweet and a definately tear jerker at times. I didn't like her in CTHD but I look forward to seeing more of her. Although sometimes I thought of her as arrogant but then again I guess I was just associating her with the character and not "her."

Latest info has it that Miramax plans to release Hero in North America as "Quentin Tarantino Presents Jet Li's Hero."

All indications are that Miramax was planning to shelve Hero's release until Tarantino intervened. He's now being credited as "saving" the film. I only hope it'll be released unedited and undubbed. We'll see...

Zhang Zi Yi's role was completely unnecessary, and at times very very annoying. It seemed as if the role was created solely so that she would be in the film However, the character did provide a nice fight scene with...that girl [forgot her name...watched Hero a LONG time ago].

I also hope that Hero is released undubbed!

I hear Zhang Zi Yi's in a new movie, Shr Mian Mai Fu. Any info on that?

"That girl" in Hero is Maggie Cheung Man-yuk.
