i have a problem which i cannot find a suitable place for at this forum.

I have two pcs this one i am using works fine.

My other one has a big problem which i am having trouble solving.

I tried to format my HD and then reinstalling XP by booting the computer from the cd by accessing BIOS. setup goes through until i reach a blue screen where a message appears.

"The file 'asms' on windows XP home edition cd rom is needed...."

now i can't even get onto my computer.

anyone with the technical ability to help me??
very grateful for solution.

Did you use a copied verison of Windows XP or the original Windows XP?

I know when I help install a friends computer, she only have a copied version of Windows Xp and I had a problem with missing a certain file that wouldn't let me conitnue... to fix this problem, I told her to buy an original copy of Windows Xp and reboot the computer and install it again.

It work.

it's ok now. i attempted a different form of re-installing xp and it worked.

here's something....dell support is the WORST i have ever seen.

Hehe Dell is good (still in my book... have a Dell Optipex G200 and Dell Inspiron 8600 and both support is great)

But everyone have a bad day, glad everything works out
