Default Divine Condor a different species from other condors?

Was the Divine Condor of Dook Goo Kau Bai (later adopted by Yeung Gor) an entirely different species of bird from the regular condors that the Mongols (and Gwok Jing) were seen shooting out of the sky during LEGEND OF THE CONDOR HEROES? Judging from its size, behavior, and lack of flight capabilities, the Divine Condor might be a mutant strain of the regular bird . . . or some different species of bird altogether.

It is probably a pterodactyl j/k

Seriourly, I don't know. I tend to think that it is a regular condor, which perhaps had eaten too much Snake Bladder, and therefore it mutated a bit. I guess it must be very old as well.

It might as well be something like the pterodactyl. Just like the Lochness monster.

the elephant bird has to be one of the ugliest birds i've ever seen.

i can't picture that thing teaching anyone martial arts...and i really don't know how a big african bird became DGQB's friend...

but if i can believe that YG can chop down a tree with a twig, i can believe anything.

--- Thx Athena for the info. The bird sure has prominent bushy brows of serious-ness, thought that dinky head needs improvement. Where's its ugliness? Like the ROCH83 image better.

elephant bird are a relative of the ostrich though. they're bigger in size, roughly same in shape and slower.

The Condor was described to be too fat to fly too.

Maybe YG mistaked an ostrich for a condor. He probably never seen one before.

Not sure where one would find an ostrich in 13th Century China.

For that matter, you technically wouldn't find *condors* in 13th Century China either. Condors are North American birds. I've personally always believed that the "diu" birds in LOCH and ROCH were actually hawks.

Who's the Chinese explorer who actually brought animals like ostrichs and giraffes in ancient time?

Probably my ancestor, Cheng Ho (at least, my dad *tells* me he's our ancestor), who sailed to Madagascar (in the Indian Ocean near the southeastern coast of Africa) during the 16th Century. Of course, that was a good 300 years after the time of ROCH.
