TIAN CHIXING: A mysterious fat martial arts expert, who can even scare away someone like granny Hu. He loves to eat and is said to have eaten his way to invincibility. His martial arts are very very high and he doesn't like to walk and always travels via carriage. Futhermore he is carried around on a huge bed.

PARROT: Another mysterious expert, he comes from the Echo Valley. He imitates the voices of others perfectly and playes the nasty mindgame of repeating every word his victim says. His art of levitation is unmatched in the world. He has even scared away Tian Chixing. But no one has ever seen his true appearances.

SANG ERLANG: He is the head disciple of the Heavenly Silkworm Sect. Because he has been punished for trying to molest Silver Blossom and was fed to the silkworms. However he was not killled, unfortunately he has become very very ugly and he has become quite mad. He has also secret connections with Yu Fanghe and is trying to become the hierarch of the Heavenly Silkworm Sect.

SANG MUKONG: He is the hierarch of the Heavenly Silkworm Sect. He is the father of Golden Blossom, Silver Blossom and Iron Blossom, he has great martial arts and has mastered the art of disguise perfectly. He is also a very intelligent man albeit he can be very cruel and cold-hearted even to his own daughters.

I haven't seen this serie yet, I don't know if I will watch either. From what I gather after reading the review. It is not very faithfull to the novel.

Graceful Swordsman is a good translation but there is absolutely nothing wrong with Athena's translation of the title. I quite like Athena's title, a poetic quality about it.

A more direct translation of the title would have been something like the Famous Playboy Swordsman but this title might mislead others about the the main character.

PeiYu doesn't strike me as a playboy, in fact I find him a true gentleman. So using the word playboy in the title will lead to some misconceptions. Also "Feng Liu" also can distinguished or exquisite so hence the title.


The english name really depends on the translator.

The Ten Great Malavolents

- Wan Chunliu is the physician of the Valley of Evil. His knowledge of medicine is deep and profound. Although he used to be a vile man, he has repented now. He looks like an indifferent cold man, but he has a good heart and is very dear to Xiao Yu'er.

- Du Sha aka Blood hands, he is a cold man without a smile. But it is said that he is most honourable one of these ten malavolents.

- Du Qiaoqiao is a hermaphrodite. [She] is a master of disguise and is one of the most cunning and devious persons in the world.

- Yin Jiuyou aka Half ghost, half human. He is a master of secretive weaponry and lightness martial arts. He likes to pretend to a ghost and is very eerie.

- Ha Ha'er aka a concealed dagger within a smile, the laughing monk. He seems like a friendly nice man, but in fact he is a ruthless fellow who kills without hesitation.

- Li Dazui aka not eating the head. He is an infamous cannibal who eates almost everything. It is said that he even ate his wife and daughters. However, his literary and martial arts are quite distinguished.

Xiao Yu'er is one of the sons of Jiang Feng. He is a very handsome and charismatic young man, although he was raised by vile and evil men his heart is at the right place. He is witty and calls himself the most intelligent person alive.
