Everyone's gonna die sooner or later, might as well go down in bloody glory.
Plus someone HAS to die so revenge can be taken.
Yeah wuxia is kinda cliched.

Actually in the book it was less painful - he just got his arm cut off from the shoulder to the rib, taking a huge portion of his torso with it. After whispering his last words to Yang Tiexin, he died without requiring any further work from the extras.
Better to have your daughter as a hero - fathers of heroines normally last longer - long enough to meet their daughter's boyfriends before either dying and entrusting their kid to the hero, or turning evil (or showing his true evil colours) and having to be killed by his own daughter/son-in-law. In that respect Huang Yaoshi was smart - he avoided GJ and HR where possible, and tried very hard not to steal their spotlight lest Jin Yong decided to take some liberties with his fate to dramatise things.
Actually if you are XYS, you won't die, but you'll get to be a monk... and yes, you'll lose your son XF in the end of the story. But at least you won't die

Yea.
Yuan Chenzi
Z3F (Jueyuan was as good as a father to him)
Its not just your son. Its bloody dangerous and bad luck to have your disciple as a hero as well!
Look at Wang Jiantong, Xuanku, Jiangnan Freaks, H7G (he was doing fine for years until he taught GJ, then he got seriously injured), XLN (get raped thanks to trying to teach disciple some skill), Yue Buqun (hero disciple foils his plans), Wuyazi and TSTL.
Z3F only survived because ZWJ was not a direct disciple.
Basically, it sucks to have a hero as your son or disciple or martial brother or father. Stay away from heros. Go look for cliffs to fall off and strange animals to eat instead.
edit : Oh yeah, GWM in 3rd edition. Immediately after Guo Xiang calls him 'Master', HE DIES!

Its BIxie Jianfa Gawdammit you guys!!!!
So when Ke Zhen E disowned Guo Jing, it wasn't because he was angry at Huang Yaoshi, but because he was trying to ward off the curse? No wonder martial artists go to such extensive lengths before they'll accept a disciple - if the disciple turns out to be a hero, they're as good as dead.
ROFLMAO!!
Being a hero's master does seem to be pretty deadly, though. LHC's master gets killed, his master's wife commits suicide, his master's daughter is murdered by her own husband... And Ren Woxing, who wanted LHC to be both his disciple and his son-in-law, drops dead out of the blue.
Guess Feng Qingyang had a good idea about being a hermit. Hopefully it saved him from the curse of association with LHC!
你看这些云彩,聚了又散,散了又聚,人生离合也是一样。
I think we should not limit ourself to Jin Yong heroes only. We should expand to Gu Long's and other wuxia writers heroes as well.
Why not? Being a hero in wuxia seems like a good prospect.
They never run out of cash to use.

I think there used to be an old song..."Mama, Don't Let Your Boys Be Wuxia Heroes" or somesuch...
Little Fish and Flawless Flower parents died soon after given birth.
