TO foreva, Thanks for your opinions. I don't agree with everything you said, but it's ok. As long as we are mature about it and respect each other, than it doesn't matter. Yea, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It is true that you have to draw the audience in... But I believe it is based a lot on luck too. I seriously cannot imagine where LYF will be right now if she didn't get the role of WYY. There are a lot talented stars out there, but they just haven't gotten the luck and opportunities to become famous yet. LYF is lucky to get the chances and luck that a lot of new stars hope for.... It also depends on which leading roles they get and how popular the series itself gets... Like in Vicki and Ruby's case, they got famous because of HZGG since that series is based on a famous writer's book and it got popular. Therefore, the cast got popular as well... Imagine if they were in just any ordinary series, regardless of good they look and how well they act. They aren't going to get anywhere....

I agree with most of your post on luck, but on the whole cast of HZGG getting famous, I think that they actually did an excellent job portraying their roles in HZGG, and the actor who played Er Kang did not get as much publicity as Alec or Vicki or Ruby, which is kind of odd, since he had just as much of a main role as any of the other three.

LYF is definitely very lucky. I never knew that she was in a series before TLBB. I actually think that her face being round is a good thing. It makes her look a bit more unique, like her eyes. They look a little strange at first, but... She definitely looks better in ancient clothes, like Shui Ling. For some reason, she just looks bad in modern series.

I think Zhou Jie didn't get as famous because he doesn't look quite as good... So you see, once again it is looks...
Also, I thought they did a decent job but I wouldn't call it excellent. But that's my opinion. If they acted like that in just any series, do you think they would have gotten famous???

Actually, I don believe that luck alone will help one person successful. LYF is still so young and i heard that she just came back to china around 2002 from us. So, i assume that she just start her filming carreer. wyy role will only help people to known her for a short period of time and i think this role will bring a lot of pressure because many people have acted in this role before and people will start comparing her and the previous actress. by the way, i think she is great comparing people at her age where people at her age still studying and having funs.

I know luck is not the only thing, but it is an important part of anyone's success. There is timing, promotion, looks,etc.... other factors as well. But luck is definately one of the factors.

I have a question. Does anyone know how she was "discovered?" That seems really odd, that she would return to China from the US and somehow be able to land a series job. Can anyone be able to do that? Because it would be SO COOL to act in a series!!

yea it's cool to act in a series, also not easy to act in a series. i don't know how she got discovered, but looks matter a lot. i only tell you waht i know. she didn't get famous after her first series, don't konw why there. but in dgsd, the producer picked Liu Tao to be Wang Yu Yan at first, then he was thinking about who is going to be Ah Zhu, then someone in the crew recommended him liu yi fei and said that she is 16, or 15 at that time. he didn't agree thought she is too young with not very experienced, but they met her and he really did make LIu Tao and Liu Yi Fei stand next to each other, and he judge, he admitted that Liu Yi Fei is more suitable for Wang Yu Yan, he said Yi Fei looks more Qing Xiu or something. so he picked her.

I think Lui Yi Fei is pretty, but I can't say much about her acting coz I only saw her in DGSD and thought she did alright..
Is she in the new ROCH??

In celebration of Liu Yi Fei gettting the part of XLN in the new ROCH I thought I would bump this thread. I've been a fan of LYF ever since I saw her on DGSD and am glad that she'll star in another high profile series. If anyone wants to post pictures of her to replace the broken ones that would be great.

Liu Tao is more suitable for Ah Zhu, she portrayed the character to the T (or at least up to my expectation of Ah Zhu after have read TLBB years ago) the producer picked the right girl .

LYF, she is just pretty . not breath taking but just pretty . And i don't think she played a good WYY . WYY is intelligent/sophisticate and pretty (again, just my view on WYY from reading the novel) LYF is pretty but she can't really portray the intelligent/sophisticated side of WYY.

and about her acting's gonna be better in 10 years (which she's gonna be at 26) basically, i don't think she would last in the industry that long, due to the rate of growing of the industry and other prodution/actors/actresses dominations from other countries . The competition is sky high .

gotta watch ROCH just to see WYY plays XLN in it ... i think i'm gonna have a good laugh out of it (no offense to WYY's fan here) and i have to admit, she has an innocine girl's look in her since she's only 16 ... and she's pretty.

I agree with you Tutoo. I think she is pretty, but not breathtakingly pretty.... It is nothing unique to me. The fact that she got the role of XLN can be a good or a bad thing. IF she is able to perform well, then it will really benefit her now and in the future. However, if she doesn't then it can really bring her down....

I also agree that the competition in the industry is really high, so she may not last in the next 10 years. But lets see....

yes, IF . if she is able to perform well .

but I doubt it. because due to lacks of body expression/movements. maybe i'm underestimated her performance . but yes, Trinie, we'll see .

I hope that she does a good job as XLN for the sake of US, the viewing audience.

I sort of doubt that she will do well as XLN since she wasn't so great as WYY. But lets wait and see.... I don't want to judge her too early since I haven't seen her performance yet. The pressure is really on for her.

The movie you're referring to stars Jimmy Lin, Liu Yi Fei, Ambrose Hsu, and Kristy Yang.

Its release date in Taiwan was 9/10/2004, so I think it's safe to say that production is already over.
