i think ah ruo loves herself the most. her character is named ah ruo, btw! altho she's not a machiavellian like her aunt is, but she's not innocent and docile as the emperor's first concubine is (played by zhang jing chu). the purpose of her marrying the emperor is to secure the safty of her home state, chu guo, it's a political marriage based not on love but on the political interest of both states, hers and his. the emperor likes her obviously, and i'm sure she likes the emperor as well, but they are playing a game of conquer with each other, he's trying to conquer ah ruo as he did with his first wife, making her a faithful partner to him and his country, and she tries her good look and her love on him, hoping that he would do as she says and keeps her home state in safe. but she finds out that emperor qin shi huang is not a common man, he's remarkably ambitious, and will soon reigns rest of the 5 states, knowing this, she stops appease him, altho she never really tried hard to please him either, but she has a recognition at this point that no matter what she does, her husband is going to invade her home state anyway, so she returns to be the defiant ah ruo, the princess of chu guo, not the wife of her husband nor a citizen of qin state, she's again ah ruo, the daughter of her father, a citizen of chu state.
i like her charcter a lot, she's not a token concubine in many of history theme series, i admire her individualism and her political loyalty to her country which she has shown from the beginning to the end, she's the type of character who makes you go wow, and got real impressed. she doesn't sink into the political hellhole in order to accomplish what she wanted, and she doesn't lose herself facing an intimadating and yet charismatic husband like qin shi huang, she's a very proud person!
