    summary for the whole story.

Jian Lin Tian Xia in general is a better-written story than its predecessor, The Young Detective 2. The series consists of 7 investigative chapters packed with a strong cast, solid performance, elaborate story telling, and eye-pleasing gong-fu fighting scenes.

Fan Bingbing plays Ao Xue, a princess from Liao Guo, a neighboring state with a substantial military might. Princess Ao Xue who comes with her brother Prince Jing Lei for a state visit is found missing and her bodyguards murdered after an unfriendly encounter with Bao Zhen. Thus Bao Zhen becomes the prime suspect of the murder and is called for capital punishment under the recommendation of Pang Tai Shi. On the day of punishment, the murderer is beheaded, yet Bao Zhen is still alive. He is saved by Wu He, a female bandit whose brother willingly takes the punishment for Bao Zhen in order for Bao to seek justification for his family who were massacred few years ago. With helps of Eighth Prince, the capital punishment on Bao Zhen is withdrawn because of insufficient evidence, and Bao is ordered by the emperor to investigate the murder cast thoroughly. So Bao Zhen, Mrs. Bao, Zhan Zhao and Gong Sun Ce all packed up ready to visit Mrs. Baos master in search of some clues to the poison used on Ao Xues bodyguards. On their way, the group encounter the missing Ao Xue, who now suffers a memory loss and Wu He who saved Bao Zhen early on also joins them, hence begins a trip of adventure and thriller.

Brief intro to the following chapters:

Chapter 2:- Ao Xue runs away, and becomes a soccer champ in Ying Tian town. Bao Zhen and his gang come looking for her and people involved in the soccer team are being killed one by one. Whos the murderer? Youll be surprised!

Chapter 3:- Bao Zhen and his gang pass by Tong Tian town, a religious place where many religions flourished, and discover a massacre site. Who did it? Tong Tian Sect is the most influential religion locally leads by Ye Mu Ren, Ye has hypnotized Bao Zhen, and his next target is the emperor, whos visiting the town with his beloved concubine, is Ye also behind the massacre?

Chapter 4:- Residents of Ning An town is divided in support of two famous showgirls, Yi Zhi Mei and Lan Ru Shi. A businessman is killed in the room of Lan Ru Shi, and Lan is accused of murder, but did she do it? She looks so innocent, although arrogant! Ao Xue discovers her interest in singing and replaces Lan Ru Shi as the new showgirl, will she success despite her awful singing voice? And whos behind all other murders?

Chapter 5:- Ao Xue is sick and Bao Zhen and his gang stop by Yao Shi town, a place famous for making medicine for some medical helps, but little did they know that the town is plagued by Mad Chick Disease, and the gang is told not to leave in avoidance of spreading the plague elsewhere. An Xiang Jun, a native of the town returns and claims he has the cure for the plague and with the recommendation of the local government, Ans medicine becomes a best seller. Bao Zhen is skeptical about the medicine as he discovers few folks had died from taking the medicine. To find out the truth, he tests the medicine on himself, and battles addiction while struggles to find the mastermind behind the pill making.

Chapter 6: -Bao Zhen and his gang finally return to home and they befriend Jiao Jiao, whos told her brother has committed suicide but the death looks suspicious to Bao Zhen, and the gang take on the decedents ex-employer, a well-connected noble. The deeper they dig about Chong Er Club - an underground high society club who finds excitement and thriller in hosting physically challenging and dangerous games the more they learn about the information that comes easier is most likely untrustworthy. And by investigating the club, Bao Zhen discovers Alliance of Heaven and Earth; another underground club that makes Chong Er Club looks like a kiddy playground in comparison.

Chapter 7: -In a mission investigating the Alliance of Heaven and Earth, Ao Xue is traumatized by the masks wore by the alliances members, and she quickly recovers her lost memory yet forgets all the time shed spent with Bao Zhen and the gang. Ao Xue asks Pang Tai Shi to get her back to Liao Guo and stands prepared to declare war with the Song State in a pretext of avenging for her murdered bodyguards. Gong Sun Ce makes up a lie that Ao Xue is married to Zhan Zhao in order to convince Ao Xue to reconsider the war. Ao Xue learns that her brother Prince Jing Lei wants her dead and decides to return to the gang partly because she injuries Zhan Zhao and feels responsible to take care of him. Ao Xue returns but she isnt telling everything she knows about the murder. And the more Bao Zhen investigate about the Alliance of Heaven and Earth, the more shocking details he get! Did Ao Xue set up the scheme in order to wage a war with the Song State? Is Pang Tai Shi behind the murder? Or maybe its Eighth Prince or someone even more powerful?

Ao Xue is a well-written character, unlike many female characters in ancient dramas that are often too simplistic and one-sided, Ao Xue has layers and stands up for careful analysis. Ao Xue, the princess of Liao Guo is a political conscious and warmongering heir of an ambitious emperor. She knows her political responsibilities as the princess, shes not a pampered royal descendant, she stands ready to fight for her country and expand its territory. Shes an intelligent person, a desirable future leader in the eyes of her father, but most importantly, she is not conceited under her fathers favoritism and doesnt hold grudge against her brother who sees her as rival and wants her dead. Ao Xue is flesh and blood while dealing with her compatriots, but she is the enemy, she doesnt mask her intention of conquering the Song State, and she would use any mean to achieve this goal, she is a politician. Ao Xue who suffers a memory loss is an extremely likeable and irresistibly cute character. Shes straightforward and knows how to protect her interest, she tells Wu He to back off because she likes Bao Zhen and tries in every way to please Bao Zhens mom who has show a clear preference over Wu He as her future daughter in-law. Ao Xue is also righteous, she stands up for unjust and loves to pick a fight with the bad guys and she rarely gets hurt, because Zhan Zhao is in charge of protecting her.

Bingbings Ao Xue is a huge improvement from Xiao Qing Ting in the Young Detective 2, which I found the character a bit irritating and the acting unconvincing. Bingbing did a much better job this time, she looks confident in her way of making comedy, and best of all, shes pretty good at it, the funny scenes come more naturally, they are cute and unpretentious. The character itself provides a platform for Bingbing to demonstrate her acting skill more thoroughly, audience see two Ao Xue in the series, a cold and calculative politician and the expressive girl-next-door! Wang Xue Bings Bao Zhen is different from his two predecessors, he doesnt have Zhou Jies intensity nor Lu Yis youth compassion, his Bao Zhen is mild, tepid and reticent, but tactful as always, an indeed mature version of Bao Qing Tian. Li Zong Hans Zhan Zhao is a playful womanizer who has a serious crush over Ao Xue and often shows up in a splendid display of Wu Xia heroism in front of Ao Xue. Li Jing Rong has plenty of screen time in here, although not as handsome as Ren Quans, but Li presents a calm, wise and decorous Gong Sun Ce who's able to deliver some humor occasionally. Jian Lin Tian Xia has enough twists and turns to keep you entertained and Id recommend this series to be a collectable.

    Subject: The alien princess

WHEN it comes to work, Chinese actress Fan Bing Bing has no particular preference for TV or the silver screen as long as the role offered is something she wants to play and a challenging one. I am game to try anything. I believe that it is important to take on diverse characters that challenge my ability as an actress, she noted.

Tripitaka (played by Nicholas Tse in blue robe) and his disciples in A Chinese Tall Tale.
In A Chinese Tall Story, Fan plays an alien galactic princess, who runs away from home to escape an arranged marriage. She crosses paths with Tang monk Tripitaka and ends up helping him battle the villains.

    Fan Bing Bing
When I was going through the script, I thought it was weird that there was this alien princess because in the original story there was no such character. But it was fun to play her because I have never played an alien before and it was up to my imagination how best I could portray one, she said.

Next year, Fan shows off her diversity opposite Andy Lau in Mo Gong (Battle of Wits), touted as one of the biggest Chinese movies of 2006. Directed by Jacob Cheung, the story revolves around Ge Li (Lau), a member of the Mo family, renowned for their non-aggressive ideology. Ge Li comes to the aid of the Liang Kingdom when it is under siege by the Zhao Kingdom.

Fan leaves her regal surroundings for the harsh life of a female warrior from the Liang Kingdom.

On working with Lau, Fan said they shared a good working relationship.

He may be a big star but he treats both cast and crew very well. He has no airs about him. He is quite a funny guy. Definitely someone to be admired. By Li Ee Kee

NICHOLAS Tse strolled into the dim Zeta Bar, Hilton Kuala Lumpur, sporting his trademark aviator shades. The 25-year-old, casually dressed in black shirt and jeans, looked like a rock god cool and aloof.

As the press conference got under way, he took off his shades to reveal a boyishly handsome mug. Almost immediately his demeanour changed.

When A Chinese Tall Story co-star Fan Bing Bing praised him for being like a big brother to the cast and crew, he gave a silly grin. He became serious again when she playfully chided him. Both stars were in town to promote their latest movie.

Later, as Fan was busy answering questions from the media, Tse made himself useful pouring her a glass of water. Pleased with his deed, he gleefully directed her attention towards the glass of water. Fan rewarded him with a nod of approval.

Fan: I have more than beauty

    www.chinaview.cn 2006-01-05 09:55:17
    (http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/20...nt_4010976.htm)

BEIJING, Jan. 5 -- A Chinese Tall Story, now showing in Shenzhen cinemas, is Fan's second movie.

A Chinese Tall Story is doing well even though it's up against The Promise, director Chen Kaige's blockbuster with the biggest budget in China's movie history, and Riding Alone a Thousand of Miles, Zhang Yimoufs return to his understated filming style.

Fan stands out in the movie even though she only plays a supporting role. Director Jeffrey Lau is full of praise for her stunning beauty and natural performance. Lau once said during an interview that he spotted Fanfs talent in Cell Phone. She appears so beautiful and talented in Cell Phone that I decided to put her in my new movie. And her cooperation was amazing. Her serious attitude towards acting really moved me. I will create more suitable roles for Fan in the future, Lau said.

A Chinese Tall Story ends Laufs A Chinese Odyssey series, which was such a hit more than 10 years ago that many Chinese can still recite some lines from the earlier films. Fan said that her teenage life was greatly affected by the series and that she never imagined that one day she could be part of it. It was my honor to be included in this classic series. But what is even more beyond my imagination is that I could appear as a princess from outer space in this movie based on a classic novel set in ancient China, Fan said.

A Chinese Tall Story tells a ridiculous love story between Tang Seng, a famous Tang Dynasty monk, an ugly monster and a beautiful princess from outer space.

    Fan's New Movie

Fan is now busy shooting a big-budget movie with the working title Battle of Wits (Battle of Wisdon, Mozi's War Stategy), featuring Fanfs childhood idol Andy Lau.

Pleased with Fanfs professionalism in Cell Phone, Feng Xiaogang wanted her to appear in his A World Without Thieves, starring Lau. But Fan declined because of schedule conflicts. Now Fan finally has the chance to work with Lau and even get involved in a film romance with him. Fan couldnft hide her excitement.

But audiences expecting to find a gorgeous-looking Fan will be disappointed. For the first time, Fan hides her beauty behind a shabby warriorfs garment and dirty face. But her greater challenge is acting the role while fighting on horseback against enemies. Some scenes are even dangerous. But Fan declined to use a stuntperson, insisting on doing everything herself.

A Chinese Tall Story, now showing in Shenzhen cinemas, is Fan's second movie.

Sometimes using stuntmen can lead to regrets because they can do difficult actions but cannot express the same emotions. I want to be perfect and have no regrets, Fan said. @

Fan also revealed that she expected a lot from this movie: For me, romance movies cannot satisfy me any more. I donft want to act any more as a simple-minded ebeautiful vasef whose only possession is beauty. I need a role which is a real challenge. I want to show the audience my inner world, not just the pretty face. That is why I fell in love with the role the first time I read the script, Fan said.

Some people say Fan Bingbing is the most beautiful actress in China and her beauty leads directly to her fame and her increasingly high status in the domestic movie scene. Some people say Fan is so lucky, becoming a household name in China after having a supporting role in the hit TV series Princess Huanzhu, created by Taiwanfs romance literature master Qiong Yao. Some people say the woman in her early 20s is just so complicated, good at using small tricks to gain the favor of big directors. @

Despite all the rumors and speculation, Fan remains silent, only saying that acting is the only thing that deserves my attention. After appearing in a dozen TV series and achieving wide popularity, the beauty decided to expand her acting career from the small screen to the big screen.

She was picked by Feng Xiaogang, one of Chinafs top directors, to play the leading role in Cell Phone, which had unexpected box-office success in the 2004 New Yearfs movie market. And the movie helped Fan to realize her resolution to leap to the silver screen.Enditem

'Battle of Wisdom' rages in China

    by Mark Pollard

One of the biggest Chinese movies of 2006 is likely to be a multi-national, period war epic tentatively titled Battle of Wisdom (or Wits) that stars Andy Lau (House of Flying Daggers) and as of a week ago was shooting in Yixian, China.

The $16 million feature is being directed by Hong Kong helmer Jacob Cheung, whose filmography is dominated by such dramatic fare as Last Eunuch in China (1988) and Midnight Fly (2001). It also stars actress Fan Bing-bing (Twins Effect 2), Wang Zhiwen (The Empress and the Assassin) and Korean heavyweight Ahn Sung-ki (Duelist), an actor of considerable talent who stole the show in the Korean martial arts period film Musa (2001).

Providing the film's source material is a popular 11-volume manga series from Japan titled Bokko, authored by Mori Hideki, Sakemi Kenichi and Kubota Sentaro and published as Stratege in France.

The plot centers around the exploits of Ge Li, a member of the Mo family known for their non-aggressive ideology. Alone, Ge comes to the aid of the sparsely populated kingdom of Liang when the kingdom of Zhao invades with a 15,000-strong army during China's turbulent warring states era.

Production began back in September with the shooting of a massive battle sequence in Inner Mongolia. Stephen Tung Wai (Warriors of Heaven and Earth, Seven Swords) is directing the action scenes.

Kenji Kawai (Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence) is attached as composer and Zensh Sakamoto is director of photography.

Fortissimo Films has picked up the film for worldwide sales.

'A Chinese Tall Story' opens in Hong Kong

    by Mark Pollard

    2005.12.22

Director Jeff Lau and action director Corey Yuen tackle the Chinese literary classic Journey to the West with Hong Kong's latest film adaptation opening in local theaters today.

A Chinese Tall Story (Ching Din Dai Sing) is a HK$100 million fantasy and comedy production from Emperor Motion Pictures that reimagines Journey to the West as a far out love story full of digitally-enhanced creatures. Nicholas Tse (New Police Story) stars as the monk Triptaka, who along with his disciples Monkey King Sun Wukong (Chen Bolin), Pig Monk Zhu Wuneng (Kenny Kwan) and Sand Monk Sha Wujing (Steven Cheung), are on a long journey to retrieve a sacred Buddhist sutra and bring it back from India. Along the way, the three disciples are captured by evil tree spirits after they venture into the city of Shache. An ugly lizard imp named Meiyan (Charlene Choi) falls in love with Triptaka and joins him in helping to rescue the disciples.

Fan Bing-bing (Twins Effect 2) is beautiful Princess Xiaoshan, who with her army, vows to aid Triptaka after journeying to earth and invariably causes Meiyan to jealously challenge her to a fight. The outcome of this battle reveals Meiyan's true identity as a "galactic warrior."

A Chinese Tall Story isn't Lau's first attempt to adapt Journey to the West to the big screen. In 1994 he directed A Chinese Odyssey, a two-part epic starring Stephen Chow.

This film is the latest to include action sequences from Corey Yuen, who remains one of Hong Kong's most successful action filmmakers internationally. Having choreographed the action in Transporter 2, Yuen's latest gig is as director for DOA: Dead or Alive, a live-action adaptation of a popular video game series that's planned for release in August.

A trailer, pics and more information regarding A Chinese Tall Story are available at the official site.

    -

Based on what I've seen, including the trailer, A Chinese Tall Story looks to be a frivolous cross between Twins Effect 2 and Legend of Zu, where overblown special effects, uneven art direction, pop idols, and awful comedy collide. It certainly has an enormous hurdle in even approaching the genius of Stephen Chow's Chinese Odyssey. I'd like to be proven wrong, but from the looks of it and based on EMP's track record I'd wager it doesn't even come close.

I'd like to be proven wrong, but from the looks of it and based on EMP's track record I'd wager it doesn't even come close.

hey i know what you were talking, i'd ordered some Chinese albums online before and didn't like their packaging, they just looked cheap. But Chinese albums nowaday are so eye-pleasing, the quality of the paper cover is good, and the pics are so beautiful, the album actually looks like a DVD, i'd suggest that you order from Yesasia cause Bingbing's album only comes in one version, the Mainland version, and it didn't have MV and other goodies that you are looking for, and i doubt the company would release a TW or HK version of it since Bingbing is not that famous over there!
