Talent is talent and Shu Chang is definitely more talented.
Maybe people want eye candy, but personally, i hate it when good series are destroyed by crap actors even if they are good looking. If i was a directore wanting a good all round series to be brought up by it's cast rather than the looks of the cast, Shu Chang is definitely it. Sure, looks sell, but so does talent and talent doesn't fade... while beauty does....

The funny thing is that it is not like that Shu Chang is ugly or anything, she has a beauty beyond those of a normal actress. So if you say that looks sell then why isn't she getting some roles she has both the talent (Above LFY) and the looks (slightly below LFY) to accomplish something/ But no she isn't getting any big roles.

So maybe it is not only beauty and talent you need sometimes you need a good backup like LFY who has ZJZ while Shu Chang has to rely on herself to get those roles.

LYF is lucky in that ZJZ supported her, and chose her for XLN over Jiang Qin Qin, who was definitely the favourite to take the part in China.

That is life sometimes you don't get everything even if you deserve it. And I feel for Shu Chang, she has looks that nobody talks about and talent that nobody cares about while about actresses like LFY have the looks but isn't up to SHu Chang's level in talent and not as versatile in roles.

i dont believe in luck...it's how much you want it. if SC want a good role, she should find a manager that will get her roles. it's that simple...if you want something that badly ...work hard for it.

That might just be that everyone has different definitions of beauty. It's probably easier to agree on talent, since at least an actress or actor can be judged on how convincingly he or she acted. I personally think a lot of talents are beautiful and/or handsome.

I want series with good plots and convincing characters, piping hot or not. While yes, sex sells, these series aren't porn (or at least most haven't quite fallen to that level yet). If all you want is beauty of the flesh, well...help yourself to a pop-up ad or two. Eye candy is always great, but it's annoying if all the gorgeous person can do is look beautifully stupid and fake on-screen.

Shu Chang does deserve more attention, but I don't think she's being buried just yet. She's getting good roles and does them well. She's holding her own alongside other more high-profile actresses like Liu Yi Fei and Yang Mi, and I'm rooting for all of them.

I think she is working hard and I don't think she is slacking or anything. Nowadays it isn't that easy to find a good manager or director to support you. LFY got one because her family is kind of rich maybe while Shu Chang was an orphan and I don't think she has the kind of financial support to back her.

Money is also an important factor in the entertainment industry. That along with talent and looks gets you somewhere in life. I believe that luck is involved in acting, Hey LFY is the perfect example she wasn't a good actress back in Tian Long Ba Bu but still got good roles because of luck,looks, support and not talent back when she was a pre-teen.

You do have to admit, it does involve quite a bit of luck or fate, ending up with the right genes for that perfect face for leading roles. No matter how hard you work, you won't change that. And plastic surgery doesn't seem to be particularly good for your image.

SC looks good...but not good enough...or rather...not the right look for the lead roles.

I don't agree with "not good enough," but I do agree somewhat with the "right look" part. Every actress has a look that makes it easier for her to take on a certain type of role. Not to say a person's face should lock him or her into only one kind of role, but that's often what happens. People who start playing villains often get stuck with them because they just easily look the part.

Actually, Shu Chang's role as Miss Shui in Lian Cheng Jue was a pretty prominent one in that series. Not a leading one like He Mei Tian's character, but a pretty important one.

I agree with Godslayer about money. In any business talents are often overlooked because they just don't have the means, often monetary, to get attention. Some people are 'discovered' by accident, but probably more are pushed forward or recommended. It's like being able to become an author easier if your family already owns a publishing company. Connections are important.

I also think it has quite a bit to do with luck. I mean look at all of the actresses that are popular today. IF they were not chosen by a producer, director or have connections then how can they even get to where they are right now?

Some examples:
Fan Bing Bing-She was chosen by Qiong Yao because she knew Liu Xue Hua. IF she was not chosen by QY to be in HZGG, I honestly wonder where she will be today???
Vicki Zhao-If she was NOT chosen to be XYZ in HZGG. I also wonder she would be right now. Same with RUby Lin...

Those are just some examples. Even if you had a manager and all that, if the director or producer doesn't want to cast you for the roles, then they just won't....

Since there are many stars these days, the competition is really high.... SO a lot of it is based on having connections and luck.

I also don't agree with her not looking good enough. There are many actresses whom I think don't even look as good as her or as appropriate in a leading role, but they play the leading roles because they luckily got chosen.... Connections are really important. If an actress is going out with a director or producer they will definately get priority over other actresses.

Even when casting for the roles of ROCH, look at how unfair it was... Don't even tell me that luck and connections had nothing do with it...

I agree that talent lasts while beauty fades.. I hope that as time goes by Shu Chang will get the attention that she deserves....

Also, LYF still has her parents to support and help her while SHu Chang was an orphan.Therefore, I am proud of SHu Chang for even making it in the circle because it is not easy....I am always rooting fo rher!!!

SC has an average look on her. If you put YM with SC in the same series. YM will most likely get the lead role...same as LYF, GYY, Eva...and a couple of other actresses. She just look average...You could tell if an actress look good or not by the male/female fans they have...LOL...SC might look good to you...but to others...YM, LYF, GYY, etc look better than SC...therefore; they'll get the lead.

i think guys and girls' interpretation of beauty is sometimes different. i notice more girls find Shu Chang beautiful than guys, guys tend to think girls like lyf is really beautiful...i heard from a friend that guys really like pouty lips, more so than girls. i think Shu Chang is very pretty and cute, just like lyf, just that lyf looks sexier my fav. is actually gyy.

You know how it is...life is unfair...maybe around 90% prefer an actor with good looks/decent talent over an average look/talented actor. I'm in the 90% mark.

I don't go that far and complain about people's opinion I respect that as long as they are justified and aren't far-fetched (And once again I am not talking about your interpertation of beauty)
