You know, reading this makes such a huge difference (a BIG thanks to you Noodles ^^ ); from reading this, the personalities of the characters is revealed more fully. It's really nice to see HR soften up and that YG got to see how much the Guo couple cared about him.

It seems right now, GF isn't really that bad, more like ignorant =\

Thanks Noodles.
Its nice to see HR softening towards YG.
But its really weird of HR to be prejudiced against YG in the first place. After all, as HYS's daughter, she knows how hurtful it can be to be looked upon differently just for being somebody's child.

Cool

Acid, it is more from her distrust toward Yang Kang. She inevitably was the cause of his death (not her fault really), so she felt uncomfortable with YG b/c the latter was smart, cunning like his father.

She was afraid that he would turn bad and cause problem to her and GJ.

Yeah. Let's make Noodles quit his job and work full time on his translations. He'll get two bathroom breaks and two meal breaks a day. He should be done with ROCH within a week. Then we'll let him complete HSDS

Oh well. Thanx again Noodles.

Exactly my point Goofy. Its nothing to do with YG but he was looked upon not as YG the person but YG son of YK. Samething with HR. People often look at her (pre beggar clan leader days) & not see the person, they only see and think HYS's daughter...got to be wicked...just like the father.

Just want to ask ppl's opinion about Guo Fu, right now as in the translations, whe doesn't seem so bad. (I know she turned into a horrible ***** later)
But currently although a bit of a spoiled rich girl, she is not that bad and she even offered to buy YG with new clothes.

Hiya gys,
WongYong disliked YangGuo becuz of the following:
1. devious and crafty
2. eccentric/strange behavior
3. son of YangKang
4. LIKENESS of YangKang
-
I believe its a strong combo of #3 and #4 and her guilt. :P
-
As for GuoFu, I think this story presents a less annoying GuoFu than portrayed by ROCH84, because that movie didnt show any growth this GuoFu seems to show ... a little.
--- Seems more nicer to YangGuo. [They did not fight at adolescent age, compared to the movie which they did have a fight prior this.]
--- Understood her thoughts compared to the movie.
--- If there will be a fight soon, it probably come from misunderstandings and betrayal...

As for Noodles We can always contribute a shitlo*d of Ramen to infuse Noodles on those times when he translates this story. :P

what I don't understand is how HR turned almost 180 degree concerning her personality. She seemed to mellow a lot, became so conventional. I guess spending eighteen years with GJ did really break her wild spirits.

Funny that GJ remained the same, so I think he was the stronger between the two characterwise.

Dont forget that HR is pregnant, and her nurturing quality is seeping through.

yes, that could be also.

I think HR probably understood YG the most, having similar personalities. She had the same experience as Acid said, but I think she loved GJ too much to want to risk it. She preferred to be prejudice than be sorry later, and that's again part of her old personality - I believe YG would have done the same if he were in her shoes.

Besides, I think she did not think that she did wrong to him, teaching him only to read and write but not martial arts. She did not try to bully him or anything.

But YG was a smart and sensitive kid, and he felt her distrust which sparked his suspicious later on.

One could say that it was fate that landed YG in the tomb. Otherwise, he wouldn't have met his gu-gu.

I think her action was justified according to her personalities (she hadn't met him for a long time so can't say that she could trust him on the spot), but I wish she would have been more open-minded later on, after he had rescued her family so many times - she was still suspicious of him with Guo Xiang, etc., and I think she was too worried then since she should have known him better by then.

GF seems nice here because she has nothing to be angry about yet.
Remember that even in the TVB-series she was like this, only there was litle emphasis put on her personality so she seemed a spoiled b!tch for the entire series.

She really turned into our "hate her guts"-b!tch when YG refused to marry her in front of all those heroes.

Also, YG and GF did get into a fight prior to this when they were kids remember? It's just that YG for some reason didn't took revenge... maybe he forgave them a bit because they were still kids back then.

Hiya gys,
Thks GoldenArm, that answer made PERFECT sense. It would be nice if WongYong rubbed her tummy and said that to YangGuo...so there is no confusion why WongYong did a "180 degree" change of thought as Goofy pointed out. Seems out of character and beyond belief when I first read it. [Note: I was hunting this quote when FairyQueen in JinYong Forum posted it. ]
-
-
As to WongYong's suspicious nature on YangGuo:
1. YangGuo always heralds trouble when he shows up in the Guo family.
--- GuoFu's tribulation as well as the family's
--- Almost lost the head of her husband [YangGuo's revenge]
--- Almost lost her head. haha [CruelPassion pill quest]
--- Could lose GuoXiang's head. haha [Assumed YangGuo could go insane]
-
-
2. Well, there are few people whom she thought as her equal in intelligence...her weariness?
-
Regarding GuoFu -- What I try to say was:
1. In the novel, after their childhood, YangGuo and GuoFu did not have a physical battle while in the SERIES, they did. The series still show the immature nature of GuoFu and her competition with YangGuo. [ie. when GuoJing captured YangGuo in mongolian uniform and the resulted Barn battle]
--- The novel portrays GuoFu as more human and toned down. [ie. just your average trouble-maker ]

Wouldn't 1 Yang Tze be One Solar Finger, and not solitary?

Thumbs up

Hiya Athlon,
"One" doesnt express what is implied in the 1YangFinger:
1. The word "one" is too common... it's not like "The One"
2. I think 1YangFinger technique is not just using one finger to disable but CONCENTRATES the CHI to a single point and do its thing. Singularity or in this case "Solitary" as in "9 swords of solitude" is appropriate.
3. Yang is better than Solar becuz its a more Wuxia term, and expresses a more mysterious energy...and also stresses 9Yin and 9Yang in the novel.

Question:

1. XLN real name is never know. correct?
2. XLN is the third generation of Ancient Tomb sect. Wong Cong Yang ex-girl friend, the founder of the Ancient Tomb. So the 2nd generation is Sun popo. Am I right?
3. Can anyone tell me the list of 7 students of Wong Cong Yang (someone probably already asked this, I'm to lazy to search.. ). I prefer in order of seniority. Is there any female among them?

Thanks in advance.

1) No one knows her real name. She is a discarded baby after all.

2) XLN is the Gen 3 leader of Tomb sect. The first is of course , Lin Chao Ying. The second leader is her maid, which is XLN's master, not Grandma Sun.

3) Can't exactly remember. Ma is no.1, Qiu Kai is no.3, Hao is no. 5 or 6, Sun is No.7 (?former wife of Ma)

2.What is the name of the 2nd leader? has it ever mention?

3. Can anyone complete the sequence? is the 7th one a female?

Thanks again.

I don't remember it is ever mentioned in the novel.

I don't remember the sequence, but I know that the 7nth one is a female : Sun Put Yi. Is she really a former wife of Ma ? From what I can remember, she is just the youngest sister of the seven priests and has no special relationship with any of them.
