I always thought that she's overrated, and not too versatile (and prone to overacting). But yeah, nice win.

Too bad no one gave a damn when Tony Leung won Best Actor in Cannes years ago.

This is an good news... she is awsome actress.

I think could it be that she has more reconiziton is because she married a famous cauasian and she also can speak fluently in english etc... and while Tony is cool and all but don't have a good relation with the cauasian market?

Reminder. To some Japanese people, using 'jap' can be rather insulting, whether it was meant to be a short form or not. Cos' this is what they were called by american soldiers back in WW2.

Yes. They've been talking about wanting to make this movie for 6-7 years already. And it's always said that Steven Spielberg's attached to direct.

But Zhang Zi Yi and Gong Li are also fighting for the role too.

I wouldn't be surprised if, in the end, a JAPANESE actress was chosen.

i think it would be better if a real japanese actress was chosen...
wat's with the caps on "jap"?

and btw, jap is not a racial word as much as people portray it to be,
for example, "hongers" are people who came from HK that is not too harsh or insulting, rite?

    yah same here..
what's with this big hype with zhang zi, she's not that great of an actress and doesn't do it for me in the looks department....

gong li definitely hands down steals the show when it comes to the looks department...come on!!!
didn't you people see her at the Cannes festival? she had like this western women body, very voluptuous! (im so jealous btw)

    Finally, someone said this!!!

Don't get me wrong, I like her, but I just don't think she's good enough to ALWAYS win. Seems as long as she's nominated, she wins, anywhere you name it.

It's almost like she's the greatest actress ever, which is a bit ridiculous.

    Congrats to Maggie!!

GongLi is the best candidate for leading role inMemior of a Geisha.
