    If the 2003 has Chen Hao, Liu Tao (I think it's her), Hu Jun, Jimmy Lin, and Liu Yi Fei in it...then yes, that's the one. xD

    If you're allergic to this post...well...then just don't post here, it's easy enough. I'm not forcing you to answer my questions or share your thoughts.

    For faithfulness to the novel, you can stick with the 2003 version. Or if you prefer some stellar a** kicking, or in-yer-face action then look no further than Brian Leung Gayan’s 1982 version.

    You mean the movie/series? Maybe I should watch it after I finish this one, just for the heck of it. Is it as good or better (or not as good) as the 2003 one?

    1982...that was quite a while ago. I wasn't even born.

    Well, I did mention it from above didn't I? Whatever floats your boat. And it's in Cantonese if you don't purchase the VCD.

    The VCD should provide Mandarin recordings on the right channel.

    Ah. I see. Okay. Thanks, I'll see if I can get my hands on a copy. I like action in series.

    To avoid disappointment, I recommend you download some of the clips from this site to get a feel of how it compares to the 2003 version that's driven by its special effects. Btw, it's in Cantonese with Traditional Chinese subtitles.

    The link is http://bryanfilms.com/
    Once you enter, click on 'DOWNLOAD' and FTP links will show up of the various series he was in. I can give you a translation of the file links: -

    初遇 = First Meeting
    杏子林自己插自己 = Stabbing himself in Apricot Woods
    扮北喬峰南慕容 = Dressing up as North Qiao Feng and South Murong

    客棧療傷 = Healing at the inn
    白痴的中山狼 = Crazy wolf of the mountains?
    我不是契丹人 = I'm not Khitan
    你豈可永遠照顧我 = Would you always look after me

    聚賢莊一役 = Juxian Manor
    絕情酒斷恩義 = Sever ties with the wine
    ☆戰游氏雙雄與群雄 = Battle with the Yau brothers and the heroes

    雁門關上 = On top of the Yan Frontier Gates
    喬峰遇阿朱 = Qiao Feng meets Ah Zhu
    誤會阿朱 = Mistakened Ah Zhu
    我是契丹人 = I’m Khitan

    朱峰戀三部曲 = Trilogy of Romance between Ah Zhu and Qiao Feng
    要求阿朱幫他補衣 = Requesting Ah Zhu to stitch his clothes
    塞外之約 = Meeting beyond the border
    借宿古廟 = Lodging at old temple

    阿朱之死 = Death of Ah Zhu
    致命的一掌 = Fatal Palm
    塞上牛羊空許約 = Lost meeting of farming outside the border?
    將阿紫託付給喬峰 = Entrusted Ah Zi to Qiao Feng

    阿紫放毒針射喬峰 = Ah Zi fired poisoned needle at Qiao Feng
    喬峰踢火球 = Qiao Feng playing soccer with the fireball
    北喬峰南慕容 = North Qiao Feng, South Murong
    自殺&一生回憶 = Suicide and a recollection of his whole life

    Be patient of the download time, as it can be slow.

    You should find some very well written reviews on this version in the Reviews Section of the Home Page in SPCNET.

    Default Questions on DGSD

    Hi,
    I have 2 questions on DGSD.

    1) Why do Wang Yuyan and Mu Wanqing call Duan Yu as "Duan lang" the first time they acknowledge him as their bf/ future husband? Whereas Ah Zhu calls Qiao Feng as Da Ge, not Qiao/ Xiao lang?

    2) If Wang Yuyan's mom is the daughter of LiQiushui, how come their age gap is so huge? LQS is like 80 plus and Wang Yuyan's mom should not be more than 40 since her daughter is abt 18?

    There's no consistency in what women called their lovers in wuxia novels. Some opted for the formal "seung gung" (not sure what that translates into in English, although the title is a sign of the wife's respect for the husband as per Confucian social ethics). Wong Yung called Gwok Jing "Jing-gor-gor" in her youth and "Jing-gor" in her mature years. Little Dragon Girl referred to Yeung Gor as "Gor-yee." Other women just opted for their husbands' given names. It was inconsistent all over.

    I also wonder why there were three titles for one's teacher's teacher. In ROCH, Sor Goo always referred to East Heretic Wong Yerk See as "see gung". The Cheun Jen Sect third generation disciples, however, called Central Divinity Wong Chung Yeung "see jo" or "jo see yeh". In HSDS, Cheung Mo Gei always called Cheung 3 Fung, "tai see fu". All these terms refer to the same thing.

    Zhu Si Yeh (jo see yeh) also has the meaning of Sect Founder.

    The term, 'shi zhu', is pretty much reserved for your master's master. I glanced over XAJH (can you tell yet I love that book?) to double check, and in chapter nine, when describing his master, that's what Yue Buqun referred to him as; to his students, he referred to his own master as "your shi zhu", "你师祖."

    Sha Gu's "shi gong" derives from the fact, I believe, that she viewed HYS not only as her master (shi fu) but also like a grandpa (wai gong); you have to remember, their situation was somewhat strange, as although HYS was her father's master, he also taught her martial arts as well, and in addition, essentially 'raised' her. Thus, combined, the rather unusual "shi gong."

    Finally, Zhang Sanfeng wasn't ZWJ's master's master; he was ZWJ's father's master, thus, 'tai shi fu", not "shi zhu".

    Question, didn't Linghu Chong called Feng Qingyang something like Tai Shi Jia (I think that is how it is spelled)? So what is the relation between Linghu Chong and Feng Qingyang?

    FQY was LHC's "太师叔", his "Tai shi shu."

    The term "师叔" "shi shu" is used when one is talking about someone in your sect who is of the same generation as your master. "叔" means uncle, just like "父" means father. Your master's martial arts brothers are, of course, your martial arts uncle. Feng Qingyang was Yue Buqun's "师叔", in that he was of the same generation as Yue Buqun's master, and from Huashan. Since he's Yue Buqun's "师叔", ie one generation above Yue Buqun in the same sect, that makes him LHC's "太师叔", his "tai shi shu."

    Wang Yuyan and Mu Wanqing only started calling Duan Yu "Duan Lang" after they realized they wanted to spend the rest of her life with him (or something to that effect). Also, Duan Yu is a romantic, and they caught on to that. Whereas, Xiao Feng is not really interested in women, and I am sure Ah Zhu respected his serious/professional manner. That's why she was more formal with him.
