Relationship thread: was it really that bad?

Update on what happen so far...

1) there once was little SPCNET board

2) everyone was happy

3) then came the different topic forums to break out all the off topics posting on the board

4) good idea, everyone was happy

5) then came the nasty comments, the crazy off the wall topics, sex and drugs were brought up... and most importantly someone got harassed

6) some people were offended, SPC need to do something, Mods debated over this.

7) SPC choose to shut down some of these threads

8) due to censorship, a few people left the forum, some try to make another forum, but it wasn't the same.

9) couple months later, some of these people are back.

10) some newbie started to post some of these off topic not realizing these topic weren't allow

11) these posts were closed or delete

12) some folks ask why these topics were closed.

13) then people explain, debated...

14) recycle 10 and so on for like dozen times

....

The cycle continues.

I think the relationships forum was closed because one of Spcnet's moderators was getting ridiculed and vilified on Wuxiaworld message board. It's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Yes, the host should show consideration for the guests, but the guests should also know their limits and not wear out the host's patience. This is a case where the host's patience has worn thin and has decided not to reinstate a forum after repeated abuse. Get it? If not, read dan J's post.

Note, it was just a few of the guests, not the majority who caused troubles. In my house, I'd kick these people out or give them warnings, but I won't close down the entire party. Perhaps, I'm just more tolerant than most people, but hey, you live longer that way.

Not that we're not tolerant--if we weren't, a lot more members would be banned already. And yes, several troublesome members have been banned and issued warnings. It's not like we're incapable of doing the job, just that when those forums cause so much trouble and melodrama all the time, it gets tiring, and not to mention frustrating, to have to manage it.

As a mostly entertainment forum, I don't think that qualifies us to shut down the entire board just because we cut out two off-topic forums. That, to me, is intolerant.

Let's just say Relationships forum will probably never make a comeback, so please dash all hopes of flirting online here. As to General Comments, that might show up again in future, but no definite date.

Back to the actual debate question, whether the forum is better or worse off, I personally think there are pros and cons. Pros are definitely the stress-relief, returning the forum back to our core interests, and less OT spamming spilling over to other forums.

Cons would certainly be lower member participation since some members were only interested in those 2 forums it seemed and less forums to post in.

Obviously, both sides were weighed before coming to a decision, these decisions don't come from a sudden spur of thought.

Now, any more opinions instead of coming up some silly rationale like one of the moderators getting slimed, thus we close a forum?
