Just out of curiosity, what was the reaction to this series? as in ratings, and whether it was favourable or not? I read an online newspaper comment once and it was early into the series and thus far it was like slow but nice effert. So now that it has ended, any news whether it made a dent in the prime time viewing or mediaCorp still won the ratings war? And what is the series occupying the timeslot now? Own production?

It is difficult to gauge the reaction to the series. Anecdotal evidence is that the series is well received. Unlike other countries, actual ratings information is not readily available to the general public.

Moreover, the two TV stations both signed on to different ratings research companies making it even more difficult to trust whatever statistics they come out with.

In the early days of Mediaworks, both TV stations used their own statistics to declare they are the ones who won the ratings game. Viewers soon learn to distrust both of them. Many complained about the incessant trumpet blowing by the TV stations that the stations stopped the "ratings advertisement wars".

In those days you could see a chart showing Mediaworks on top but when you switch channels, you see another chart showing Mediacorp on top. Nobody knows who to believe.

How is it like in Malaysia? Do you have a regular ratings chart weekly or monthly? I know Taiwan has one, IIRC, which is published in the papers weekly.

Right now, Channel U is showing TVB's "Eternal Happiness" in "Power of Love"'s timeslot.

You might want to monitor this page in Mediacorp's website.

    http://corporate.mediacorp.com.sg/ratings/

They stopped updating it in July, which is when "Power of Love" started airing. Coincidence?

    Maybe coincidence but who knows?

In Malaysia I think selected household are selected to be you know the selected few. Not quite sure but I once read that TVB's bulletin Utama (that is news at 8 pm) was the one with the highest rating. I don't know where they got the info but that was what was reported. I tend not to believe such ratings either. I seriously do not think there is a weekly chart in Malaysia unless it is kept secret and not published. Not in our local newspaper anyway.

From what I read I do not think Poer of Love made a dent in the ratings war but I am sure it was well received. How come a foreign series is in that timeslot? Is it that Power of love is like a one off series produced by mediaworks and they don't often do that? Eternal Happiness is such a crappy series.

Usually TV stations have daily ratings fed to them by the research companies. After all, they're paid to do it. I think they used those data to justify advertising prices. ie higher ratings thus charge more for commercial.

I once read some "Nielsen households" just have a notebook to record down their TV viewing habits. But technology has made it even easier. They get some sort set top box that monitors the TV channels and upload the information automatically. Whatever the case, ratings are based on the small sample size. How accurate can it be?

Mediaworks is a new station. Just celebrated it's third anniversary. And financially, it's bleeding badly. To the tune of S$40 million last workyear IIRC.

They are slowly increasing local productions but they don't have a huge stable of artistes to begin with. It's gonna take some time. They started off concentrating on cross border productions, mostly with Hong Kong's CEI like Heroines of the Yang Family, Romance of the Book and Sword etc.

Now they have a show similar to Mediacorp's "Star Search" called "The Next Big Thing". They are definitely increasing their stable of actors, it only means more local productions.

"Power of Love" is the first major 1 hour drama series from Mediaworks with mostly Mediaworks actors since the station started airing.

As for airing TVB serials, Mediaworks have exclusive rights to them in Singapore. They need them as they don't produce enough local productions.

Hopefully all this will mean Mediacorp will respond in a positive way and us viewers will have better shows to watch in the future. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.

With so many screencaps at my disposal, I thought I have a bit of fun.

Two mosaic pictures made up of screencaps from Power of Love.

Nope, not my cup of tea. Not my favourite photo of him ... ok I am very excited, very happy. Still not my favourite photo of his. Who's that girl, bottom third one?

What kind of program is this? You just input the pictures and there output the mosaic? Amazing. I actually thought you actually well ... I don't think I am giving you too much credit. You must first have that much of resources to piece together this piece of art. Are all these screencaps from Power of Love?

Yep, they're all from Power of Love.

    That girl is Michelle Chia.

You can see that there are not enough screencaps red in colour thus the purplish tinge in the final result.

I recently started on this series and is up to episode 21.

While a tad slow, I like the series very much. In fact, I usually watch series on a fast forward basis but this is ONE series that I did not fast forward.

I like Yongheng very much. Where is he from? The disc I have are dubbed in Mandarin but do not sound local (Singapore). The only voice I recognize is Guo Liang, whom I like very much in the series too.

And wow!!! Kudos to wuchang!!! You did a lot!!!! Although I am late at reading this forum, I still manage to catch the storyline of the later episodes. And I don't mind spoilers. It helps me, actually.
