    Default [Channel U] Be Somebody

'Be Somebody' portrays life in the Navy and brings out inspiring stories of love, friendship, comradeship and kinship.

Consisting of six episodes with individual themes, ‘Be Somebody' will see the actors and actresses taking the lead roles in each episode depending on the storyline. Channel U artistes Ix Shen, Ann Kok, Darren Lim, Apple Hong, Peter Yu, Adam Chen, Ben Yeo, Bernard Tan, Li Wen Hai and Tang Miaoling will star as the defenders of Singapore waters in the Navy. This will also be the first drama that Ann Kok, Peter Yu and Li Wen Hai play in since they joined SPH MediaWorks. ‘Be Somebody’ will also specially introduce three new talents Darren Seah, Xavier Teo and Wymen Yong who had just joined SPH MediaWorks.

This series had ended its run in Singapore. I felt it was wasted, as with only 6 episodes, it was too short. Channel U could have expanded it to a complete series especially since the Republic of Singapore Navy was basically providing free props. Oh well.

I've made a few screencaps of the trailers downloaded from the official site.

    Episode 1

Evon and Jeff have been together for many years. Both work for the navy. Just as their big day is approaching, Evon receives an important task that needs her to be deployed to the Gulf. She decides to postpone the wedding despite being on leave.

    Episode 2

Alan is the Ops O of MCV and Jeff’s buddy. They entered the Navy together while Jeff is a rank higher than Alan. Alan’s old friend offered him an attractive opportunity to a business venture in China. He is moved and hands in his resignation to his CO. However, he eventually decides to stay on due to Jeff’s encouraging words.

    Episode 3

Hong Peifen is an industrious and popular worker well liked by her fellow colleagues. She encounters some personal problems recently and therefore made a couple of mistakes in her work. Once while refilling the diesel, she received a call and was not paying attention when the diesel overflowed. Another occasion was that the training was affected due to her forgetfulness in replacing a worn-out diesel pipe.

    Episode 4

Roy is a newly signed-on NSS on MCV and he is directly under Peifen’s supervision. Roy’s first task given by Peifen is to draft out the engine layout of the engine room on the spot. Roy feels that Peifen is trying to make things difficult for him, and is thus annoyed with her.

    Episode 5

Paul and Alvin have signed on to the Navy. Although Paul is weaker physically, he has strong determination, whereas Alvin is just the opposite and thus has problems with the demanding training. So when he gets injured, he uses the opportunity to withdraw from training.

    Episode 6

In the last week of training, trainees go through the toughest segment of the whole training. They must challenge their physical strength to the extreme with only six hours of rest for the whole week. According to the school’s traditions, whoever who wants to give up can do so by ringing a bell in the school.

So is it like each episode has a different story or theme? Hmmm....I am quite interested with this serial. I am not too familiar with many of the casting names, but many of them look familiar int he screen caps you provided. Thanks so much wuchang for the caps and info on the episodes!!!
    Yesterday's History,
    Tomorrow's a Mystery,
    Today's a Gift,
    That’s why we call it,
    The Present.

Channel U has a smaller stable of artistes compared to Channel 8. So you'll see familiar faces in most of its productions. More so if you watch their variety programmes too.
