oops! all the same to me anyhow as i always end up having crushes on my fav male character who tend to be good lovers as well. so in answer to the original and intended question posted, i would still answer QF...

now that someone mentioned it Huang Yaoshi is also up there on my list. he's only a pedophile in the re-edited version, but i will neglect that version (even though i don't really read any of jy's books) or else my image of him will be forever tainted. now he's one cool dude. i also happen to like eccentric people and huan yaoshi fits the bill. that and he also is truly devoted to his first love (minus the new edition). great dad. great inventor. creative, powerful, self made man. yup. gotta love the guy.

Don't worry. He's not a pedophile. The third version does not depict him as a pedophile, contrary to what many non-readers think.

The only thing I have against him is that he was attached to YLS, esp the incident where she stabbed him. I mean, just because he fears that YLS would be SCOLDED and UNHAPPY, you let her STAB YOU in the VITAL ORGANS to make her happy? And let RYY and others who care about him get scared/worried out of their wits for his life? And indirectly let YBQ, who he knew well what he was aiming for, to smoothly ascend the position of the leader of the Five Sword Clan, meaning the whole Wu Lin would be in turmoil?

Well,even though you misread the title ,I cannot agree more.To provoke DFBB,he said YLT fools around but he is loyal.Later on, DFBB gets distracted when YLT gets tortured and loses the fight.

And then at Song Shan mountain,LHC gets distracted instead by an old "aquaintance" and the result is indirectly giving way to YBQ.If I'm not mistaken,wasn't there some part where RYY got injured while trying to get something for Yue Ling Shan after she got stabbed by LPZ? Then LHC only cared about Yue Ling Shan then without thinking about RYYs injury.That's called "loyal" as he described himself to DFBB?Okay.He didn't cheat on RYY or anything but I don't think those things he did were right anyway.

Ha! Ha! Agree with you 100%! Try watching TVB's warped version in 1985 and you'll want to kill the script writers for making LHC even more worse.

Sometime, I think LHC is too sensitive to YLS's feelings, and not enough to RYY, who he unconsciously hurts several times.

nope! in fact, i think that it's very sweet and tragic. it's just brief so there wasn't that much development, but considering how short their relationship is, it's quite deep.

maybe their relationship pales compared to gj and hr but only because these two have a more developed relationship.

boring to me equals yg and sll.

then again, this is all based on tv series. yg and sll relationship may be more interesting in the novel but i'm not sure how much whining from the protagonist i can endure to read.

I like YG, he's my fave. True, he's not always mature and patriotic, but he's really a likeable character. People that don't like him were those that envy him. If Golden Wheel Monk was on the same side, I reckon he'll befriend with YG.

(oops, I just read the other thread of YG, just remember that quite a number of people give him a bad time. But the old people like Huang Cit Kong and Auyang Feng do like him. (sorry for the wrong name in pinyin))

I don't know LHC that well cause I just start watching/reading XAJH.

I don't like XF cause he is Chi Dan ... j/k I don't dislike him but I he's not my fave male character. I suppose he's a true blue patriot which ever nation he is, but he's not my fave.

QF lived in a men's world, he had no relationships with women (normally this type of men don't think positively about women). But I don't say QF is homosexual! He was 'only' disinterested in women. His relationship with Ah Zu was the first time he came really in contact with a woman. JY describes how QF behaved very awkwardly against women, he awkwardly developed his love for Ah Zu etc. Madame Ma's & Ah Zi's antics must be totally strange for the 'women-naive' type of man like QF.

look, i already admitted that i haven't read any of jy's novels except ssrb...did i ever lead anyone to believe that i read tlbb or roch or loch? how many times have i repeated that my opinions are based on series already, so no need to use such a futile attack.

by the way, i like qf more as a love interest now than before after reading your post. i like awkward men and dorks...and i like naive men. there's something very special about guys who are disinterested in women not because their homosexuals. i don't like flirts. even without this factor, all in all, he's my fav male character.

Hehe, XF is THE definitive Alpha Male. So, granting natural selection, he is of course the accurate choice. BUT because our minds have been poluted by "education" and "culture" and "social norms" chicks naturally dig slick, slimy bastards like YG.

It always seem that QF was repaying the kindness of Ah Zhu who stood by him even when he was being cast aside by everyone. Until when QF and Ah Zhu made the pact to spend the rest of their life looking after goats etc, that was the first sign of real love between them, imho.

Han: my thoughts exactly. I really think the companionship was more of admiration/respect than love. Each thought the other was brave, compassionate, tragic, and so they encouraged each other--not to mention all the time they were together, they held trenmendous respect for each other's privacy and never tried anything deeply romantic. Of course, this doesn't harm Xiao Feng or Ah Zhu's image to me in any way.
