Default Female Reader's fav male character

I was with a girl and some guy in a bar the other night, and the conversation turned to JY after a friend said i liked wuxia novels.

One of the things that we talked about are favourite male characters that female liked. The girl that i was talking to said that hers was LHC, which she claimed must be the ideal male character for most child.

This is surprising to me as i always thought that YG is the one that all girls like.

For female readers of the novel, which male characters interest you the most?

I'm not female but why LHC is their favourite? While he was with Ying Ying,he still had some feelings for Ngok Ling San and even recklessly allowed himself to be injured by her at Song Shan mountain. Is a guy who still has feelings for an old aquaitance someone a girl would want?Well, she did bite the dust and that allowed LHC to fully focus on YY but in real life, are girls that lucky that an old aquantance of her partner would die?

I personally feel that Linghu Chong is the most likeable male character of the entire Jin Yong universe, for men and women alike. He is like a easy-going version of Yang Guo, he has most of Yang's good points but not his bad points.

But of course, I'm a guy so I wouldn't know...

    I agree with Lav.

He's almost like Yang Guo, except he uses his care-free attitude, intellegence, and charisma to attract people. Not his good looks like YG, since he was never described as handsome.

His other good trademarks are the fact that he never was a big whiner, a flirtatious jerk and a moody brat like Yang Guo.

Best of all he never goes around breaking women's heart by saying 'Gu Gu, where are you ?' 'Gu Gu looks more beautiful than her' 'Gu Gu, I miss you' 'Gu Gu this' 'Gu Gu that' and LHC doesn't cry like YG.

    I prefer YG.

Hmmm, let's see... he's handsome, clever, and so devoted to his love (OK, I know that it's a bit annoying, gugu this and gugu that, but I think every girl will be honored to have a boyfriend so devoted to her).

What else..... oh, he could accept that XLN has been raped (sorry, but I read lots of guys in today's modern setting still have hard time accepting that  )

And of him being a moody, bad boy from time to time? Hmmmm... have you heard that women prefers 'bad boy'? Mother syndrome? I dunno

I know what I said is not politically correct and definitely not ideal, but that's how I see the world go round
    back w/ a vengeance ^_^

now that i'm older, i have to say QF from TLBB. he's loyal, heroic, and knows what true love is. the king gave him 100 women, but he never even looked at them. his "sister in law" threw herself at him, and he never took advantage of her or mislead her into thinking he loved her. good grief, even madam "slu-tty" ma threw herself at him and he totally rejected her.

darn, he even went as far as to try to commit suicide because he couldn't bear to part with ah zhu.

he's not whiny. he's not flirtatious. the only thing he has going against him is his baddddddddddddddd luck.

otherwise, i totally dig the guy. especially a guy as powerful and influential as him. why not?

but as a child, i remember having a crush on tony leung in the grand canal simply because he's tony despite the bad beard. but if i have to concentrate on character only, it would be kj in loch. don't know why i have a thing for slow and clueless guys. he knows who he loves; it's unfortunate that he loves his country more than his woman. oh well.

so there you have it. QF. KJ. and tony leung...yummy

oh, and may i add that one other reason why they strongly appeal to me is their taste in women. i'd be insulted if a guy who loves sll ever expresses interest in me, he would be practically implying that i'm boring....

but if a guy who's totally into ah zhu and hr digs me then hey, i'm quite flattered. does that mean he thinks i'm clever, smart, and witty? because i surely can't cook for the life of me.

If you ask me which JY male character I like the best I would list LHC, ZWJ and SPT above YG. But if u ask me who is the best lover or who I want to marry, I would list YG at the top because of his devotion to his love.

Anyway, my favourite male character is none of the above. It's Hua Man Lou from the Lu Xiao Feng stories.

between yg and qf, i'd say qf is the better and more devoted lover. let me count the ways before i go back to studying.

    1) qf never flirted with another woman

    2) qf never lead another woman on to benefit himself

    3) talk about true devotion, qf promised to take care of ah zi, the royal pain in the neck, the ultimate nightmare...who in the world would want to babysit her for the rest of his/her life? but qf did because of a promise to ah zhu

    4) let's put it this way, qf never even so much as look at another woman, even those who literally threw themselves at his mercy. where as yg would flirt with any pretty girl who crossed his path.

this has nothing to do with being a better lover but i must add

    5) qf is a real hero with better kung fu. now that's what i call sexy....

I *rarely* defend Yeung Gor, but in his defense, he was a teenager when he did his flirting. Not that that excuses it or makes it right, but it's not uncommon for a healthy, heterosexual young male to . . . um, experiment?

Kiu Fung was a mature man when we met him in DGSD. I would expect a man like him to be faithful to his woman.

wow, i was really surprised that you responded to this post. here's my brief response to your defense for yg actions.

while watching (yes, watching, not reading..good grief i would not be able to tolerate reading about yg and sll pining for one another so pathetically and annoyingly) roch '83 or whichever year it was made in, i always had an uncomfortable feeling that something was happening between gx and yg. of course it never did, but there was that nagging feeling that something could have if sll wasn't in the picture. granted that gx is an awesome character, probably the most perfect girl in jy's list of characters (minus the pining for yg), and any guy should be so lucky to have her heart, still that does not excuse yg for flirting with her if he feels that he is so loyal to sll and that she is the only woman for him. hmmm...i shouldn't fault him though, it is harmless. well, even with that said, i have to say that QF is the better lover because his love for ah zhu seems so real and pure to me. whereas with yg and sll...i just want to gag when i think about this pair.

and did i mention that it's an added bonus that QF's so heroic? strong? manly? passionate?

i get the feeling that ah zhu is truly happy around QF, but i never get that feeling from sll. it seems more like contentment where as ah zhu and qf had more passion. but it could be that their relationship was so brief. but definitely more memorable to me.

i have to agree with kidd on one thing, Hua Man Lou is also an awesome character/lover.

ahh, so much for my short reply. i must truly go and study now.

To his credit, I don't think Yeung Gor ever had the slightest romantic interest in Gwok Seung. He cared for her in a purely platonic way: he really did think of her as his younger sister (which matches how he thinks of Gwok Jing as a father). Gwok Seung didn't see it that way, of course, but that's not Yeung Gor's fault.

I do not remember ROCH '83 (or whenever it was filmed) since I watched it such a long time ago, but I have recently finished reading the 3rd edition of ROCH and YG did not flirt with Guo Xiang. The mature YG was definitely a lot more mellow and (in my opinion) far more likeable than his younger self. He was aware that his behavior as a youth was hardly a credit to himself and strove to overcome the traits that led to his flirting all the time.

When it comes to women, the mature Yang Guo (around the age of 35) is at least as faithful and devoted as Xiao Feng (age 32). He never looks at any girl, and he even wore a mask so that women could not see his face. He never flirted with Guo Xiang. When they first met, Guo Xiang wanted to hold Yang Guo's hand but Yang Guo did not let her do so. He cared for her like a she was his sister, and he never misled her in thinking otherwise.

BTW, in the 3d edition of ROCH the bond between Yang Guo and Dragon Girl became more real and natural.

I never get why any girl would like Yang Guo anyway. You give him a pair of tits and he's exactly like a woman. Hell I may be interested in YG in that case (j/k I'm not into the Miriam thing).

see this is what i get for not reading...a recurrent theme in my life. well, if that's the case, yg is as good of a lover as qf...so my only reason for picking qf goes back to yg's affiliation with sll. i'd rather be connected to a guy who loves ah zhu than a guy who's obsessed with sll.

question: am i the only girl who has any interest in qf? why the yg loving and the qf neglecting among the female audience? is it because of his bad luck???

There's just something unbearably conceited about a guy who thinks of himself as being so handsome that he believes he needs to wear a mask in public so that women won't flirt with him.

Hey! I thought this was thread about the females' fav male character, not who is the best lover!

Anyway, I am more attracted to YK than YG, so YG is definately not on my fav list. Agreeing with patricia n, I have to say XF is my fav.

XF has the body and mind of a hero, and behaves like one. He, like GJ, are able to risk everything for the sake of peace for the common people. They take the responsibility and carry it out with all their heart and strength. They are natural leaders, loyal and patriotic, and both kept their promises.

GJ: would be next on my list but I still can't get past the fact that he is too obedient to hsi elders and not indepedent enough to do what is best for him. But then everything else went well, so he would be the second on my list.

LHC: Sure, of course. He is smart, friendly, righteous and a hell of a social, so why not? The only thing I have against him is that he was attached to YLS, esp the incident where she stabbed him. I mean, just because he fears that YLS would be SCOLDED and UNHAPPY, you let her STAB YOU in the VITAL ORGANS to make her happy? And let RYY and others who care about him get scared/worried out of their wits for his life? And indirectly let YBQ, who he knew well what he was aiming for, to smoothly ascend the position of the leader of the Five Sword Clan, meaning the whole Wu Lin would be in turmoil?

Frankly, I have something against people who have the strength and power to save the country/sect/clan, yet choose to hide from the world and live a peaceful life, while others risk their lives and family to save it.

Some people see it is as romantic, but I see it as irresponsible and hypocritic. So, YG and ZWJ is definately not on my like list.

I also have something against people who get top martial arts without working hard for it so pansy boy and XZ are out as well.

Neutral feelings are for Di Yun and SPT.

As for the loving part in characters, I despise people who put looks over personality so pansy boy, CJL and HF are OUT OUT OUT!!! (Sorry missed one, WXB; OUT!!! (If he is counted as a hero! )

What about Huang Yaoshi, huh? Isn't he attractive in a fatherly/pedophile sort of way?

And OMG Zhou Batong, he's so dreamy.......
