    Default Anacondas: Oscar Contender?

Since the release of Matrix Reloaded, it has been quite rare for a sequel to be better than the original; but this film may be that rare exception.

The snake cinematography is excellent, giving the viewer a real sense of what it must feel like to be a giant snake hunting human beings. The use of color in this film is nothing short of brilliant. By changing the color of the lens (an effect that has rarely been used so well) the viewer is immediately aware of when he is seeing the action as a snake rather than as a third person viewer.

But there is also an interesting Roshomon effect going on as you switch between different anaconda perspectives, and realize that while some snakes might prefer one human for a meal, another might prefer someone a little different. This raises interesting questions about how we perceive race and gender.

But this movie isn't all action. In some sense, it is a cerebral meditation on the meaning of food and the way the desire to eat can drive us to commit great good, but also great evil.

There are frequent allusions to other great filmmakers such as Hitchcock, Kurasawa, Bergman, Tarkovsky, Eisenstein. There is one hillarious scene where one of the lead characters begins humming the theme from Jaws, and then a snake eats him. That is nothing short of brilliant!

Matrix Reloaded was better then Matrix ???

I thought the last great sequal was Terminator 2.... but anyways lots of special effect movies are getting notice now, which is very nice.

Quietly awaits Levendis' review of You Got Served and White Chicks.

For me the film was a huge disappointment. It spent too much time over the moral scientific issue of this flower can save so many human lives, versus other members of the expidition saying "F this I just want to get out of here!".

As Han Solo would say, "What's the use of a magnificent drug, if you ain't around to use it!".

Spoilers Alert: Also what gives with so less people dying. I mean there are way more snakes than was in the orginal 'Anacoda' yet together combined, they killed less people??? Maybe the snakes minds weren't on the job I was hoping every single one of them except for the Captain would die.

I mean that blonde girl deserves to be eaten for just looking so dam pretty and originally corrupted by the flower. Though she redeems herself there's no reason, why the snake, who does not have any moral vaules would not want to eat her. I would

Also that African American also deserves to be eaten. Snobby attitude needs to be rid of. Also the whimp survives Please he caused the death of the Asian dude with his coward acts. But I guess that's okay... The Asian dude who risks his life to find the coward dies, whilst the coward lives, typical USA bull shite

Rating 2/10 - Not that many people got killed. There's less blood (what's it with these kind of films these days?? Everyone is trying to get a PG 13 rating like AVP). Story line sucks - MORE than usual for these kinds of films. Please we don't want to see a debate.... Otherwise we could just go down to Parliament House. All I want is some action, and people dying for gods sakes.... Or even some sex or nudy scenes....

Am I the only one who thinks the main villain (Jack something) died too cheaply? And it's like he suddenly turned into one big fat evil guy from a nice guy. o.o

Since when was the main villian nice?

    1. He only went on that expedition for his own personal gain and profit as he revealed later when he killed his good friend and African American Associate.

    2. He was more interested about the flower's abilities to make him an immortal, and more money. He really wasn't interested in anything else.

    3. He hired that beautiful blonde associate only because he wanted to sleep with her. Whether she had brains or not that was not why he hired her. Also notice how she was only a grad and help the second highest position in thier company...

    4. He only asked his graduates to assists him, not because he thought they were the best 'untapped talent' as he so stated, it was because they were under his influence and could be easily controlled and manipulated by him. Imagine taking an expert who constantly argues and disagrees with you...

So how was it exactly that he was a 'nice' guy at the beginning?? He was always evil to begin with....

On a seperate note - I guess that's why a lot of chicks out there struggle to distinguish 'good' guys from 'losers'... Because most of the girls I know, who have watched the movie, always say to me, "God, I can't believe that such a nice guy could have turned out to be such a bady!".

As you said, it's only revealed later.

But I've always liked the African American lady for some strange reasons. ^.^

But it was so obvious at the beginning when he couldn't shut up about that flower... and the way he was looking at that blonde.

Also I said to the my mate at the time, "I bet you the biggest snake the crew has to worry about is not the Anacondas - That dude is the biggest snake!".

    Turns out I was right

I don't really think that much while watching movies. It's only after the movie when I would probably start thinking things through.
