    Say NO to drugs.

Seriously, i find the following things to be best for concentration:-
    1) Nice, quiet environment
    2) Good support with good chairs, and good stationeries, light and internet nearby.
    3) Calm interior. You must not panic. You need to devote your full attention.
    4) Try to understand the material. Do NOT memorize it. Understand it well enough that you are able to explain to other ppl and to use simple daily terms to explain it.
    5) Set a time everyday, a same time that you will use to study. That way, it will be habit forming.
    6) If you're tired or the mind wanders, take a break, stretch out. No point forcing yourself beyond your limits.

I believe the one that you were thinking are the Scottish scientists who made the news recently with their attempt to find a lazy gene in human, having recently found some in fruit fly who are classified as "rover or sitter".

The gay gene, on the other hand, continues to create much controversy. As you well know, there are multitude of theories about why gays are gays. These includes psychosocial factors, familial and genetic patterns, upbringing theories.

No, it wouldn't, unless if the steam is boiling hot or if it is filled with chemicals.

Dunno, probably get superficial burn, with the face becoming red, hot and dry.

From past experiences, that seems to be something that is likely to happen.

Simple, depending on the level of exposure, u might get mercury poisoning.

Elemental mercury (Hg) is found in liquid form, which easily vaporizes at room temperature and is well absorbed (80%) through inhalation. Its lipid-soluble property allows for easy passage through the alveoli into the bloodstream and red blood cells (RBCs). Once inhaled, elemental mercury is mostly converted to an inorganic divalent or mercuric form by catalase in the erythrocytes. This inorganic form has similar properties to inorganic mercury (eg, poor lipid solubility, limited permeability to the blood brain barrier, and excretion in feces). Small amounts of nonoxidized elemental mercury continue to persist and account for central nervous system toxicity.

Elemental mercury as a vapor has the ability to penetrate the CNS, where it is ionized and trapped, attributing to its significant toxic effects. Elemental mercury is not well absorbed by the GI tract and, therefore, when ingested (eg, thermometers), is only mildly toxic.

Acute exposure caused by inhaled elemental mercury can lead to pulmonary symptoms. Initial signs and symptoms, such as fever, chills, shortness of breath, metallic taste, and pleuritic chest pain, may be confused with metal fume fever. Other possible symptoms could include stomatitis, lethargy, confusion, and vomiting. In addition, elemental mercury can also be injected causing a life-threatening pulmonary embolism.

Recovery is usually without sequela, but pulmonary complications of inhaled toxicity may include interstitial emphysema, pneumatocele, pneumothorax, pneumomediastinum, and interstitial fibrosis. Fatal ARDS has been reported following elemental mercury inhalation.

Chronic and intense acute exposure causes cutaneous and neurological symptoms. The classic triad found in chronic toxicity is tremors, gingivitis, and erethism (ie, a constellation of neuropsychiatric findings that includes insomnia, shyness, memory loss, emotional instability, depression, anorexia, vasomotor disturbance, uncontrolled perspiration, and blushing).

Additional findings may include headache, visual disturbance (eg, tunnel vision), peripheral neuropathy, salivation, insomnia, and ataxia.

    Why?

I get the same problem myself, and i never really figured out the reasons. It may be due to electrolyte imbalance causing the muscles to just contract involuntarily causing pain --> cramps.

    How to stop it?

Stretching the affected muscles, massaging it.
Warm towels or ice pack may help in certain ppl.
Take simple analgesias such as paracetamol to help the pain.

    How to prevent it?

Quinine is used a lot in the community for cramps prevention. It may cause blood dyscrasias. So be aware of that.
Of course, quinine used to be found in small quantity in gin and tonic, and ppl over the years have been using this for "cramp prevention"

Other things that i have used for patients are Magmin, magnesium salts.

Maybe, who knows, although stretching your legs are supposed to help with cramps.

When i get cramps, i may get them for 10-15 minutes, with residual pain in the leg when i walk the next day.

I don't think that it has any connections. Maybe all the newspaper inks that circulating around your body?
