Do you get the same problem when you started jogging?
Any Palpitations (sensations of your heart beating), or chest discomfort or dizziness?
Han Solo
Han Solo does this scenario make sense?

no palpitations or dizziness. although i do feel dizzy after i finish jogging only a mile..
is this because i'm just unfit? i've trained a lot and i still can't seem to improve..

xcutie,
It is very likely that your SOB is not related to your heart.
What i'm interested in knowing now is that how significant do you think this problem is for you seeing that you can still run a mile?
Secondly, do you think that it is improving with all the exercise that you are doing?
Thirdly, if there's still concern or deterioration, it may be sensible to see a doctor, get a trial of therapy with a bronchodilator, get an x-ray and a respiratory function test, and also a full blood count to discount the possibility of anaemia.

the problem doesn't bother me TOO much, but i get annoyed because i seem so unfit compared to other ppl.. i usually stop often because i run out of breath.Originally Posted by Han Solo
i think the exercise is starting to improve my condition, but it's taking a very very long time.. longer than the amount of time that most ppl need to train up and get fit.
i guess it'd be a good idea to go to the doctor sometime.. thanks, Doc!

Just a quick question, Doctor.
How many types of night blindness are there and what's the difference?
hi, i just wonder if there is a practice to use MAOIs to treat psychotic disorders in the hospital?

Doc what are the effects of taking in testosterone boosters if say your testerone levels are like 17/40?
If you are a guy, then yes.Originally Posted by Mysterious
Food and weight has little to do with height eventually, so long as you are not starving and have very low BMI affecting your testosterone and have adequate vitamin D and calcium.

Is there any alternative option other than surgery to remove a herniated disc thats pinching the sciatic nerve?
Like keep exercising the back through in the opposite direction of the prolapsed disc?
I've had this frustrating problem for a couple of years, just frsutraing as.
Everytime I bowl in cricket I'm fine, but after the game my lower back stiffens up and mobility decreases... the disc also flares up sending really painful pinches down the hamstrings. It just randomly gets inflamed, such by prolonged walking, sitting, excercises such as (situps inflame it really bad).
ta.
:]
Surgery is not the only answer for you, strife.
Depending on the level or extend of the disc pronation, management can range from doing abdominal muscle strengthening exercises, and other exercises to increase the flexibility of the back to the use of painkillers, hydrotherapy, heat therapy to the use of steroid and other local anesthetics injections.

Thanks Han
Do you think a combination of intense strengthening of the lower back and massage will be effective?
I heard that massage could actually do worse than it can do good.
:]
Not pure massage, but a massage by a physiotherapist should be beneficial.Originally Posted by strife_au

Alright Dr. Solo, I am going on a business trip from the US to China in 11 days. Today i got a flu shot, hepatitis A+B shot, and a Typhoid shot. I think I need to get a tetanus booster, what do you think? Anything else?
Also, while I’m in china, I'm under the impression I need to avoid drinking tap water, or eating salads (cause they were most likely washed in water). The VP of the company told me not even to use water to brush my teeth! He suggested beer (which besides the fact that it would taste like shit, and I’d be going into work smelling like a drunk, is a pretty good/safe idea, correct?)... I’m thinking about bottled water, that has been filtered as apposed to a "natural spring water" which may or may not be filtered... This should be pretty safe, correct?
Along the same lines, I need to eat only cooked food… soup, and steamed rice, noodles and other stuff made with water should be safe as long as it was heated up above the 60°C (or whatever) mark? Other bottled beverages made with water, such fruit juice, should be avoided because the water may or may not be filtered, but alcohol should be safe?
Are there any other health related tips for travel?
