Does she have fever or high temperature at night? or is just a flushing sensation of feeling hot?Originally Posted by pemberly
Does she have any shakes that are uncontrollable?
Does she have any sweating especially at night?
Has the following happened recently:-
1) Loss of weight?
2) Coughing especially if coughing up blood?
3) Any new medications?
4) Any visit to any foreign countries?
Does she ever have any history of illnesses such as tuberculosis?
Fever, especially unexplained fever over many many days should be investigated, imho, as there could potentially be something serious. Did her doctor did any investigations at all?

This is something that has continuous evolve since we started to teach the general public CPR, the initial 2 breath has already been eliminated and teaching the "calipher rule" about the cardiac compression too has been eliminated as it confuses by-standers, and limit their ability to do the most important thing, which is trying to compress the chest to return some blood to the brain and other important organs.
Obviously in a trained persons, depriving the mouth to mouth resuscitation may likely cause a worse outcome, but there will never be a trial on this.

Exhaled O2~ 18%
O2 in a person not breathing ~ will keep dropping.
So, it is always important to try to deliver some O2 of some sort- and exhaled O2 is something the only option.

You do chest compression to deliver blood and oxygen to vital organs such as the brain and THE HEART- so that the heart start working again.Originally Posted by hyperlink989

2) no coughing.
3) no new meds. the stuff she takes, she's been taking for years. i just remember one of them is lipitor.
4) and she probably hasn't left the country in almost 2 decades.
she runs a fever. her forehead gets hot to the touch. no uncontrollable shakes. her hands are a little shaky, but i think that's just an age thing. she doesn't shake more than other 80 yr olds. i don't think any sweating, but she always did get warm very easily. as far back as i remember, she hated summers and would keep windows open in the winters. no history of tuberculosis. and all her doctor said was, "mmmhmmm." yeah, he kinda sucks. uh...she just had cataract surgery a few months ago.

Ask her doctor to do a few tests- if not done alreadyOriginally Posted by pemberly
1) Full Blood Examination and Blood Film- FBE - To look for signs of infections with rise in white cells, and if so the subtypes of white cells.
2) Thyroid Function Test- TFT - To see if she has hyperthyroid disease. Feeling hot at winter, feeling hot at night, shaking - could be a thyroid disease.
3) Liver Function Test- LFT and Creatininine Kinase- CK--> She's on lipitor, and she had problems with walking, and now this drug fever. Lipitor and other statins have an idiosyncratic time with onset of myositis and other inflammation of the muscles. Fever could uncommonly with one of the symptoms.
4) Also urine test- as old people can often get asymptomatic urine infection, with only fever being the only sign.
Obviously if fever is persistent, then other things such as CXR.
If the basic tests are all normal though, i'm gonna be![]()

will do, but she hates going to the doctor, ha ha. i think she does have something the matter with her thyroid. she says in chinese that she takes something for it, but looking through her medication, i couldn't find anything for it.Originally Posted by Han Solo

Dr. Han:
my pointer finger(shucks, is that what u call that finger, i totally forgot) feels painful in the joints when i wake up in the morning. it is hard to move it. the pain will lessen in the middle of the day but its still there. when i compare it to my other fingers, it looks swollen. this had been on for like 2 weeks. two days ago, that particular hand started to feel hot as in like when u have sunburns....mind telling me what do u think it is n what i must do? thanks doc han

Just wondering, is it normal to have abnormal menstral cycles if you skip a month or something on a regular basis? I heard it's due to stress, but mine's never been regular ever.
And is constant tiredness a sign of anemia? My friend who has anemia apparently says it is, so I'm toying with the idea of whether I should get a checkup haha.
I think what you could potentially have is called iron deficiency anemia. There are a couple of causes and complications but it varies on each. I'm not an expert but I suggest you should see a doctor and get a blood test to find out if there's symptoms.Originally Posted by yearning

So which hand? Is it symmetrical on both side?
Pictures please.

Has it ever been regular or never have been since you started menstruating (btw ladies and Han, are the cycles regular when they first start in puberty)? What is your cycle (length and what do you mean by regular skipping)? Your weight and diet? Your generally health (any other symptoms? hows your smell? Dr Han why ask sense of smell?) and lifestyle (stress?)? Heavy exercise? I assume you are not on the pill.Originally Posted by yearning

No, I'm not on the pill lol. Maybe regular for like half a year or something somewhere, but in general, not regular. Most of my friends said that they're regular within a couple of months of getting their first period, but then some are like me as well....I suppose it's the stress.Originally Posted by yittz
Well, BMI is still within the normal range. Stress, yeah tons of stress, no heavy exercise. Diet, I think I get enough of everything. And uh, I think normal smell....
Like it's supposed to be 28 days right? So now I'm late by another week again. I've hardly ever had it exactly 28 days. It's always like 35 or 40 days.
thanks han....its my right hand...so what do i do with it if it be one of those potential causes? i dun have pictures...its pretty much the same just that its slightly swollen...my left hand feels pain too but very much slighter than that of my right hand n it is not swollen...is it possible that one cause may be too much writing?Originally Posted by Han Solo
