Yeah, around that time but never before 6am. It's when the sunrises.

I work 2nd shift so I don't get home until midnight. And before I would fall asleep before 3am.

Before I sleep, I would play on the computer and talk to friends who work 3rd shift on the phone. Or I would watch a movie and fall asleep.

Yes, when I had someone to talk to until morning.. a few years ago. But I've gotten out of that habit for a long time!

I get 4-5 hours of sleep. Depending on when I have to use the restroom. When I wake up to use the restroom I can't go back to sleep.

Yes! For the last 3-4 weeks, I haven't gone to bed before 6am.

So tired! That is why I'm so cranky and yell at people for no reason. *OMG, this is why I don't have a bf!*

Like I said, if I wake up to go to the bathroom I can't go back to bed.

    Nope, nothing I can recall.

Family problems are always there. It hasn't increased or decreased, but this sleep problem is new.

I take street drugs. JK JK.. hehehehehe
No, I don't take meds or drugs. I haven't drank for a long time until last Thursday night when I went out with friends. But it's never anything strong. Just a few mixed drinks. But I found that I got tipsy just from one drink when before it would take a few shots to get me tipsy.

No, I hate going to the doctors.

    You're gay!

Ok from what I gathered. You have poor sleep habit and you are a late sleeper. (also very anti-social - hate going to docs and calling med studs gay..).

Do you worry about not falling to sleep as you lay there? What about weekends, when you don't have shift works? Do you fall asleep during the day.

I think you have circadian rhythm disorder or primary insomnia. You might want to try developing a good sleeping habit, try exercise. I suggest seeing a doctor.

Hopefully Han Solo visits this thread soon, cause I am stuck.

Um, exercise usually make you sleep better, unless you do it straight before trying to sleep.

Well medical things are private, more so than pics.

No, I go to the gym during the days I have off from work. It's not right before bed.
Fine! Then delete that PM I sent you! Don't read it!

I got nothing much to add to it, good sleep hygeine is the way to go.

Use your bed for sleeping only, not for computer, or eating etc.

Try to establish a constant time to sleep every night.

Finally, if it is really bothering you, a short course of benzodiazepines may help to break the pattern of insomnia.

    Hey Han Solo,

On the topic of sleep. There is a chinese saying that in the transition between short days of winter and long days of summer, people will have difficulty sleeping. Is the disturbed sleep pattern just the light affecting circadian rhythm or temperature or is just exams getting to me?

Grey hair - just asians? How come African's don't get it that commonly?

    1) The transition during the seasons probably have a small but non critical effect on sleep pattern

    2) What do you mean? Don't you see mandela with white hair?

I have this ongoing problem for sometime, and I would like to have some professional replies on this.

    Whenever I go to bed, my stomach would start to wail and cry, and the hungry feeling will hit me; the feeling is kind of like water splashing all over my stomach which feels really empty. It stopped its tantrums whenever I sat up, but would resume its activities once I lay on my bed again. @.@;;;

It would typically go on until I fall asleep and I would usually feel starved by next morning.

This does not happen if I have dinner or supper about one or two hours before I go to bed.

But the problem is really bad today.

I went to bed last night, and the whole thing happened again. But this time, instead of just feeling hungry, I feel STARVED. I ignored it as usual, but when I woke up this morning, I feel super starved. I only managed to grab a bite in school; a bun and a can of drink. It wasn't exactly very filling, but it pacified my stomach and it feels quite adequate. I attended my class after that.

But less than an hour into the class, I start to feel super starved again. There isn't much crying this time, or maybe there weren't any. However, I am concerned how my stomach from being all right, suddenly becomes super starved again in less than an hour's time! It didn't even become like that gradually!

    I put up with it until it was break time and I rushed to eat. This time I bought more food - a bowl of beef rice and a drink; which is at least adequate to satisfy hunger. I know there's something very wrong with me, because I didn't actually have the appetite, and after finishing my food, I was still feeling hungry! In fact, my stomach didn't even feel 1/3 full! My brain was telling me that I had sufficient food, and that I didn't need to eat anymore, but my stomach was demanding for more food. c.c;

What diagnosis and advice can the spcnet doctors give me about this problem?

PS. I'm eating again right now as I'm typing because my stomach is once again demanding food. >_<

Hey, I will give you a proper reply when I get back to my home comp.

Just a few Qs to get it rolling:
How long has this been going for? Is it getting worse?
When you get these symptoms - when did you have dinner and how much did you eat, what sort of foods (ie enough fat)?
Did you do anything different this time that could have made it worse?
Any other symptoms? Do you feel tired, lose weight etc?
Just to clarify - you feel full, but your stomach wants you to eat more? In what way does your stomach wants you to eat more - can you still eat more?
    Any change in drinking habits?

I get the night time gurgling too - the stomach pangs. It's either normal, or you have something that's making you eat more (low blood glucose) or stomach motility change (more movement).

    1) It's been going on for months at the very least. It only got worse yesterday, but it didn't happen again today.

    2) The timing differs, but I usually had my dinner at around 6plus or 7plus in the evening. And yeah, I love food with fats, actually. If there's pork, I would always pick those with the fatty meat. I'm always tired, but I think that's probably due to lack of exercise.

Just to clarify - you feel full, but your stomach wants you to eat more? In what way does your stomach wants you to eat more - can you still eat more?
    No, I don't feel full! But I am full because I no longer have the appetite after eating, and my brain is telling me that I had taken in food that's at least adequate. My stomach begs to differ though. c.c;

And no, there's no change in my drinking habits - I don't drink.

Anyone know how effective ColdFlux is? I've heard a lot of good things about it...and tried it, but effects weren't significant or anything (but that doesn't really prove anything).

Out of curiosity Guo Xiang, how many times a day do you eat? I find that I get hungry really fast too, I usually eat once in the morning, then at lunch, after school around 4 p.m., dinner, and then a night snack. That's like 5 times, way too many I know.

The one time I meant water. Do you find yourself drinking more, peeing more.

Still confused about 'feeling full'. Your brain tells you whether you are full or not and some of the sensory inputs is by the stomach - are you refering to the fact that you intepret the fact that you have eaten enough given the amount of food you put in your mouth?

Do you find what you do impact on the symptoms? Is it random?

When did the tiredness begin - has that been always there?

I always pee alot. A glass of water will have me run to the toilet for about twice.

Maybe it's what you said. I don't get it, because that bowl of beef rice was the usual amount I would take to fill my stomach but suddenly my stomach doesn't feel even 1/3 full.

Do you find what you do impact on the symptoms? Is it random?
Not really. It usually occurs at pretty much the same timings...

Is it normally just night time - what about in between breaky and lunch, or lunch and tea?

It's possible that maybe you are not eating enough. How much do you normally eat (before these symptoms came on, and during the recent months). Have you tried eating more - how much can you eat if you let your appetite (not what you percieve as sufficient) take over?

It could be polyphagia, excessive hunger. Can be psychological or endocrine. Do you think diabetes is possible for you? Are you heat intolerant, sweat a lot? Any recent head injuries? Is it worse during certain parts of the months (premenstrual)? Any psych disorder? Are you on any meds? Any weight change?

To be honest I am really not sure, hope Han Solo visits soon. If it is something like diabetes you will want to get it checked out by your GP. Not trying to scare you, but am really not sure.

    The groanings usually comes at night time, but only when I'm lying on my bed! That's the weirdest part. c.c;

Have you tried eating more - how much can you eat if you let your appetite (not what you percieve as sufficient) take over?
It stopped groaning if I eat one or two hours before bedtime. It will cry if it's four hours after dinner.

Even if I ate more for dinner, it ends up being the same. So I might as well eat my usual amount. I only eat a bowl of rice. I suppose I can eat more than that, but I'm not very keen on being overweight or worse, obese.

I won't cast away the possibility of diabetes... Already my family is forming a history for diabetes. But yes. I am heat intolerant, sweats alot. That didn't used to be the case but I've just been extra sweaty and heat intolerant recently. >__>

Other than that, it's a 'no'.

Thanks for persevering with me .

I am sure the groaning when lying down is an important symptom - just haven't figured out its significance.

Ok a rude question - if you eat more do you poo more too? Frequency and amount?

The heat intolerance and sweating - how recently, and in relation to your appetite change, time wise? Do you get palpitations (what's your pulse rate?), do you have increase activity, any change in your eyes, neck and shins?

Can I assume your age is between 25 and 45?

The heat intolerance and sweating is quite a few months' old too, I think. I don't remember the exact length of time, but yeah, it's been months at the very least.

I don't know my pulse rate, but I don't think I have palpitations. No other changes either.

Nope, I just turned 23 this year.

    Guo Xiang,

Just go to your doctor and check your thyroid function test.

I guess what yittz was trying to ask was whether you have symptoms suggestive of a hyperactive thyroid- with those, ppl tend to eat a lot, lose weight, and are heat intolerance, and may have tremor

Also do a full blood exam, and renal function and electrolytes.

Probably been asked a million times before, but yes, something like lack of sleep.

Lately i've had heaps of problems falling asleep even if i feel really tired, and so i've been basically getting around 2 hours of sleep a night, occasionally none. I feel really exhausted but i still can't sleep, and this is unusual because i usually sleep about 9-10 hours a day. I'm also waking up at about 5 am because it seems the sun does as well.

Tips on sleeping better? Please don't say 'try and clear your mind' because i think the reason i can't sleep is that i'm thinking too much.
Is there some way to blank out your mind without resorting to strange drugs and medicine?
