actually, i have a horrible primary care doctor, but she's on maternity leave so i've been seeing someone better.

Is it easy to change primary doctors in US?

yes and no. once you have one in mind that accepts new patients, you just call them and let them know, and their office will change do everything for you. the difficult part is finding one, bc there's no real review system to find out if the one you're picking is good or bad.

wish i would have checked mine before i chose him...but he is good for referrals. i only had a choice of 2 that were accepting patients when my old doc closed his practice, and the other one was clear across town.

Don’t these rating systems have a negative bias? i.e., someone is more likely to post a review if he is dissatisfied than someone who is happy with the doctor.

Dear doctors, I have a question.

Are medicines given to premature babies very costly? Up to $1000 per dose?

    Hi Docs,

I fell in mid-March, (stiletto heels and concrete steps), and scraped my leg. It was heeling ok, but then I was moving some stuff, and I pretty much ripped the scab off. Now, I have a small, round, flat, smooth scar on my knee. Is there any way to get rid of it? It's still fairly new so it's a little dark, but should lighten up in a few months. Will exfoliating help? I don't have any scars anywhere else, even though I used to fall down a lot when I was little.

    Dear, Doctors...

Over the past year or so, I've noticed that whenever I relax my right hand on a flat surface and slowly raise a finger (usually the pinky), it will start to twitch. The degree in which it twitches varies, but I find that they are most severe after I engage in some sort of strenuous physical activity. For instance, after I do arm exercises, lifting my fingers off the surface of the keyboard will cause them to tremor uncontrollably. The shaking has not prevented me from doing everyday activities, and never occurs when my fingers are at rest, but I am still afraid that this may be the start of something more serious.

I've been doing a lot of research over the internet on symptoms similar to mine, and they all point to various neurological disorders. I'm female, under the age of 25, and my family does not have a history of Parkinson's. I have also never been subjected to prolonged periods of stress.

Do you have any idea what the problem might be, and whether or not I should be concerned? Thank you in advance.

Skylee: Sounds like physiological tremor. Don't worry too much. When your muscle fatigues, it becomes more prominant. I've got it too. It's not like you notice any weakness of the hand or any funny sensations.

Pemberly: Just let it heal. I am not sure about the exfoliating thing. We sometimes debride dead tissue so healthy tissue can replace it, but this isn't the case for your knee scab as its healthy granulation to start with. So the usual, don't pick at it or traumatise it further and let it heal with time. If you don't like the look of it, just wear stockings and pants, it's winter there soon right?

Thank you for the prompt response. I can now enjoy the rest of my vacation.

Is there any danger to getting unnecessary repeat vaccines? For example, I know I got some vaccines as a kid (for example, hepatitis), but I don't know which. For the vaccines I already got, if I got them again unnecessarily, is there any harm?

Immune memory needs to be replenish by having a booster vaccination.

A booster vaccination carries the same minute risk of the original vaccination.

I would encourage you to keep your immunization up to date and make sure that you are immune to tetanus, diphteria, pertussis, hepatitis A+B, and flu.

my blood pressure is a little better now, but for a period of about 6 months, my blood pressure was around mid 120s over 90, checked about once a month at a doctor's office. it has since come down a little to like 120 over low 80s. my question is why? my doctor doesn't seem to have an explanation, or she won't tell me.

i have very good cholesterol and apparently, high good cholesterol? her words, not mine.

and i have runners pulse apparently, at 50 something beats per minute.

oh, and my blood pressure went down after i gained 5 lbs. T_T

I'm not sure what this thread is meant to be about because the first post doesn't say much.

I was given pain killers for my dislocated shoulder. Paracetamol 500 mg and Codeine 8 mg.

I probably won't take them cause I'm not really in pain. But just curious about the drug none the less.

Oops sorry. I don't check this thread enough.

BP varies from time to time. It's dependent on the instrument or the assessor. It's a bit odd to consistently stay lower with no change other than weight gain. Nothing to worry about, 120 over 80s is good.

There's LDLs and HDLs in terms of cholesterol. Total cholesterol includes both. HDL is the good cholesterol, so you want that high, while LDL is the bad cholesterol. So if you look at your LDL:HDL ratio, yours should be quite low, which is excellent.

Runners pulse - do you do a lot of cardio work out?

Paracetamol is pain killer and lowers fevers.

Codeine is a weak opiod, which still place it above paracetamol in terms of pain killing ability.

Paracetamol is a good background pain killer and it helps lower the dose required for stronger pain killers, with more side effects, to control the pain. In hospitals, as long as the patient's liver isn't shot, or allergic to paracetamol, they will get prescribed paracetamol.

Whats your instructions for the pain killers? 4x a day or as needed?

Han Solo belong to the specialty that is the master of pain management. Maybe he will grace this thread.

As needed with a limit of 2 tablets 4 times in a day.

They gave me morphine, first they gave me 1 ml to see how I'd respond to morphine cause I never had it before. Then when I was still in pain, they gave me the full shot. It still made no difference.

Cool how the forum doctors are both from Australia. Kinda flies in the face of that world IQ chart thing.

Btw, I'm interested, what sort of dislocation was it? Anterior or posterior? What was the mechanism - what part of the arm/shoulder did the car hit, in which direction, and how did they pop it back in? And what's the physio/rehab plan for you?
