    Doc,

My Coworker's little grand daughter was born few years ago, and little Grace is suffered brain damage when she was born. Evidently Doc said "It is just fine, Grace will born ok, naturally" but at the end her the birth cord was around her neck, and she had brain damage.

I am wondering if this is very common to any child birth. Is there any way to avoid problems like this? Seems like doctor isn't so reliable of this kind of incidents.

Don't know the incidence, it's not not common nor rare.

Incidence: No. of new events (or disease occurence) per year
Prevalence: No. of patients with the condition in a population

Both are usually expressed per 100,000 people.

Umbilical Cord prolapse and entanglement around the neck is an obstetrics emergency. It cuts off the blood supplies to the vital organs and can lead to death. It is relatively common.

One way to avoid it during the childbirth is to always look for it and to attempt to undo the cord from the neck before the baby is further pushed out from the vagina.

Unfortunately, there are many times when these incident just can't be predicted.

I have few question out of curiosity.

    1. Why are we burping? where does the gas came from?

    2. Where is mucus came from? I mean what substance is it?

My question is genuine not for mocking purpose just incase people wondering.

    thanks Han.

    1) Burping has a number of cause, one of the common ones are due to gas swallowing. Other causes includes psychogenic.
The gas is the one that you swallowed.

    2) Mucus is produced by the cells lining your respiratory tract, its primary action is to produce a clear watery substance to enhance gas transport and to trap dust in the upper airway. Generally, the composition of the mucus are water, salt, proteins and some anti-microbials structures.

Is it true that if we don't drink enough water, eat vegetables and fruits we will get pimples? Does chocolate cause pimples?

AFAIK, this term is used most often for babies or children that has congenital heart diseases that causes their blood that's supposed to go to their lungs and other parts of their bodies to mix. As a result of this, the bloods are not well oxygenated, and hence cyanosis and "blue". Most of this heart conditions can be fixed by paediatricians specialising in these areas.

That's not really true. Pimples are the results of three things that occur around the age of puberty:-

    1) Oily skin because increased oil production
    2) Increased skin changes in the face
    3) Bacteria growth in areas trapped by the skin and oil in the face.

Hence, the factors that you mentioned above may or may not alter the things that causes pimples.

So, just clean your face properly and things will get better, sooner or later.
If worse come to worse, there's always some medications out there.

My friend taking anti-biotic for her pimples treatment to kill the bacteria. Quite suprised me that they using anti-biotic for pimples too... sound serious because she has to take it daily. Is that what the trend nowadays?

First, anything in excess including cofee and tea will cause increased alertness e.g. insomnia and palpitations of the heart.

Second, the caffeine levels are lower in tea compared to cofee.

Third, Green Tea is said to be rich in anti-oxidants and helps in preventing cancer.
It is also promoted in preventing a host of other diseases. So, yes, it is a healthy beverage choice.

Fourth, Coffee is also useful in some conditions, for example, it is said to reduce the risk of getting Parkinson's disease (which Muhammad Ali has).

In summary, both tea and coffee, if taken in moderation will produce benefits.
