How Zhang Sanfeng derived his name remains a puzzle. If you study the chinese characters, the 'feng' which he adopted has the meaning of 'abundance' as opposed to 'peak'. It shouldn't have anything to do with the 3 peaks.

To Athena:
In page 317 of HSDS, there is more informatio of Jiu Yang Zhen Jing----one of the Wudang seven disciple commented that Zhang San Feng feels that the content of Jiu Yang is totally different from Buddhist martial arts and is CLOSE to Taoist internal energy theory----implicitly the Chinese monk who wrote Jiu Yang is probably skilled in Taoist internal skills but somehow he chose to be a monk rather than being a Taoist---may have to do with personal religious belief or political situation---the Mongols and northern Jin people is AGAINST Taoist. During Southern Sung dynasty, Henan province is probably controlled by Jin dynasty. Or in the beginning of Mongol invasion of Southern Sung--Henan is among the first place to fall because it is more NORTH.
Mongolian take a long time to destroyed Southern Sung. After they defeated Jin, they take anothe 20-40 years to completely destroyed the Sung Army. Hero like Wen Tian Xiang is among the last few heroic resistant warrior of Southern Sung---but alas---too little and too late.
To Goofy:
HeBei and HeNan are right next to each other. HeBei is the province that surrounds Beijing. HeBei means "north of the river" while HeNan means "south of the river". The river, of course, refers to the Yellow River.
However, Wu Dang is not in HeBei, it is in HuBei, which means "north of the lake", referring to Lake DongTing, which is the HQ of the Beggar Clan as well (I should know, my hometown is WuHan, about a day drive away from WuDang and the Lake DongTing). ShaoLin, which is located within Mt. Song, is in HeNan.
The 3 provinces are right next to each other, or rather, right on top of each other. From north to south, it goes: HeBei, HeNan, HuBei, HuNan.

To Hong QiGong: Thanks for pointing that out. I must say that I was rather careless in my translations. But that was due to the
the little time I had. Furthermore Zhang looked at the mountain range and thought of something and then changed his name to SanFeng.
To all:
Well, anyway this is the last translation I'll do (ever). Very tired and time consuming.
I would like to thank those who have supported and wrote kind words to show their support.
Again THANK YOU!!!! ^_^

To Athena: Great job. Welcome to the club of Translators. (it's in the planning stages, but it'll be big like the Illuminaty one day )
Those chapters always somehow end up being about 100 times longer than I remembered them being. Did you experience the same thing or is it just my imagination and bad memory messing with me?

To Athena:
It's a shame that U decided not to continue. I must admit that I thoroughly enjoyed reading your translations of the story of Guo Xiang 'at one go' after I accidentally bumped onto this website last nite. It was indeed captivating ! But it's also time consuming for Athena, so I must not be selfish. It was really amusing trying to figure out the various styles of the martial arts practised by the Shaolin monks etc. from the English translations. It's really cute:-)
Thank you for your generosity.
thank you for all your attributions, Athena. I am glad to get to read your translators, being deprived from any wuxia novels at the moment.
sad too that you are not doing any more chu liu heung. but whenever you do, I will read it.

To Bobo: The novel doesn't say when Guo Xiang died. We do know that when Zhang SanFeng turned 90 years old, Guo Xiang already passed away for some time.
He ZuDao never set foot in China again, I think. I think his descendant is the leader of the KunLun School, He TaiZong. Also He ZuDao is a KunLun disciple. Because when Zhang WuJi was taking Yang BuHui to her father he stayed at the KunLun School. He passed through a hall named the "The 3 Saints of KunLun."
Another thing the "ShaoLin" disciples that wounded Yu DaiYa and Yin LiTing were descendants from "HuoGong TouTuo."
He founded a own school called JinGang School (Diamond School I think it was derived from the Diaomond Sutra).
To Moinllieon:Thanks for the nice words. I hope the Translators Club will not plot to overthrow any governments like the Illuminati is planning.
And I hope this membership doesn't involve any strange, bizarre traditions, rules.
I might join if you give some time to think about it. ^_^
And yes, even every sentence seems 10 times longer. You just can't find the right word at the moment. So you're completely stuck sometimes.
Thanks Hong QiGong for the compliment.
Thanks Goofy for your support al this time!

Hi Athena and everyone! THANKS so much again Athena!! You are doing an excellent job! I want you to know that we all appreciate it very much. Keep up the good work. I LOVE reading your translation!
Respect other people's opinions and views. If we learn how to do that than all of these fights and arguments will not occur.
After reading your wonderful tale of Guo Xiang and He ZuDao, Athena, it would be great if someone could write a fanfic that talk about their further adventures....
Any takers???
Haha, Athena, don't worry, the only nation that's in our(my) future plans is France, since everyone else seems to be doing the same thing. (Even though France claims that their Maginot Firewall is impregnable )
Don't worry, no rituals, just the sweet torture of an endless amount of words in front you whose eloquence you have to convey in a different language (and the endless amount of unexpected research).

How many of you in this forum are Vietnamese ?
Someone once asked when Guo Xiang learnt a few stances of the "Jade Maiden Swordsmanship." I forgot which thread it was. It will just post my idea here.
This is not in the novel, but perhaps when Guo Jing, Huang Rong, Xiao LongNu, Yang Guo, Guo Xiang, Guo Fu, Guo PoLo, Zhou BoTong, Huang YaoShi, Wu family, Zhu ZiLiu, YingGu, reverend YiDeng, YeLu Qi, Lu WuXuang, Cheng Ying, DianChang YuRen, etc left the city of XiangYang to Mount Hua. On their way to Mount Hua Xiao LongNu or Yang Guo might have had the oppurtunity to teach Guo Xiang a few stances. (It's probably Xiao LongNu because is in the first chapter of HSDS the novel said Guo Xiang learnt it from Xiao LongNu).

one wonders if Zhang JunBao had went to seek Guo Jing and was taught 9 Yin and Dragon Palms, combined with his incredible talent and 60% of 9 Yang.
Wow how far did u dig to find this old thread?
I don't think he did learn anything from Guo jing after
he might not have learned it from GJ, but he might learn it from Yang Guo. think about it. they met right? maybe he saw YG fight and pick up a couple of moves with itOriginally posted by CC
