Default The martial arts of Wan Tze Ping and Chiu Tze Ging

The third-generation Cheun Jen Sect disciples Wan Tze Ping and Chiu Tze Ging were considered the best Cheun Jen Sect fighters of their generation. They seemed to have switched places between LEGEND OF THE CONDOR HEROES and RETURN OF THE CONDOR HEROES.

During LOCH, it was evidently Wan Tze Ping who was considered the best martial artist among the Cheun Jen Sect's third-generation Taoists. Although he was hopelessly unprepared for the task, Wan was chosen to take the slain Tam Chui Deun's place in the Big Dipper 7 Stars Formation when the Cheun Jen 6 Disciples fought East Heretic Wong Yerk See at the restaurant near Ga Hing Village. Although Wan was by far the weakest link in the formation, the fact that he was selected means that he was the best available at the time.

In ROCH, however, the role of best third-generation Cheun Jen Sect fighter went to Chiu Tze Ging, who indeed surpassed Wan Tze Ping. How did Chiu come from behind to overtake his younger sect-brother? Chiu was barely even mentioned in LOCH, but he suddenly became the best third-generation disciple in ROCH. Did Chiu's martial arts improve while Wan's stagnated?

Ha ha! But I think that the status reversal was already apparent before WZP raped XLN.

In the 3d edition, it is said that Yin Zhiping concentrated on Taoist studies and does not really pursue martial arts mastery anymore. That's why Zhao Zhijing became the best fighter of the Third Generation of Quanzhen.

Interesting. Did he give any explanation in the first 2 editions, or did Zhao Zhijing simply overtake him in martial arts? Which could be just the fact that Zhao Zhijing was more ambitious.

In the earlier editions, it was never really implied that Yin Zhiping was the best martial artist among the Taoist disciples (Yang Kang was the best of them all, Taoist or secular). He just happened to be around a lot.

That doesn't say much for the third-generation Cheun Jen Sect disciples. Yeung Hong's martial arts never even reached the level of the individual Gong Nam Freaks (the weaker ones, not even Chu Chung or Ohr Jen Ngok). If Wan Tze Ping was below Yeung Hong in martial arts and had to fill in for Tam Chui Deun in the 7 Stars Formation, it's easy to see how overmatched he was.
